    Alright, i have started pulling together reference images for all kinds of things ( base layout, props, etc), of course i still need more for all kinds of props that will lay around.

    I will do this in different stages that makes sense to me.

    Stages:
    - Reference library -> in progress 30-40%
    - modeling placeholder meshes -> not started
    - rudimentary terrain in UE4 -> not started
    - rudimentary base layout in UE4 -> not started
    - prop modeling -> not started
    - level scripting (doors, elevator, etc) -> not started
    - custom vehicles -> not started
    - texturing -> not started
    - lighting -> not started

    There might be something missing but i will add it to then i know whats missing
    What i might do is making a build available for download so you guys can give me feedback on it.

    You should go work for the NST art team if you can do this kind of stuff.

    I"m allowed to do it but i cant commit to any timeframe because im quite busy most of the time. If they like what i am doing i could donate my assets+ textures to them.

    I believe we have all our source assets still available through the SVN

    I wonder, how much time would it be to recreate the game of Neocron using UE4 and how many people you think would be needed on such a product? It's probably easier doing that then doing random graphic updates with the current engine plus you wouldn't have to worry about the old code in this game. Maybe even call it Neocron 3!

    Slap a Kickstarter on it to start off.

    It's certainly easy to pull random assumptions straight out of thin air.
    What you are proposing is building almost everything from scratch (minus some game design and concept work).

    If you want to build Neocron 3 as a competitive MMO on todays tech, come back when you have secured a couple of million $US to get the ball rolling. For reference: The development costs for Watchdogs exceeded $68 million. Borderlands 2 supposedly had a budget exceeding $30 million... and to throw a MMO into the mix - SW:ToR is said to have cost close to $200 million.

    Implying that the NST could deal with that workload and continue basically work their asses off for free is, mildly put, absurd.

    If it is so easy, go ahead and start building it yourself - since you can't really re-use much of anything from NC2, theres nothing stopping you (you might hve to pick a different name though)

    Quick update.

    I started blocking parts of the base so far. Being busy at work because of the latest expansion made pretty much impossible for to work on this project.
    I will get back to it this week and prolly revise a few parts and add new ones to it as long as ue4 doesnt crash as much as it did so far. I have enough reference material to get the juices flowing and if iam happy with what i get done in the next few weeks i look into getting a build of it out.
    I put together

    pretty much this, to get NC3 you need 10+ mio dollar to even think about starting that project.

    that sounds like a load of bollocks to me.

    im assuming that the nst can rip .bsp files from the NC as it is now, i dont see why importing these files into a more updated engine would be that difficult?
    i think i saw a unity demo that did pretty much the same thing.

    i guess my point is that F4tal3d is building MB and it costs him next to nothing and he's probably doing it the hard way building it by hand and the people who made maps in the source engine managed to do it without spending millions.

    making maps is not making a game, there way more to it.

    I work for CCP games and i see everyday what it takes to work on an MMO

    I agree its just more than throwing some DLLs around to have a new engine and convert BSP "on-the-fly" per one-click on a button.
    In case of Neocron its way more to do, migrate the (old) game logic, keeping the playstyle and the unique feeling what makes Neocron "Neocron'ish".

    I am pretty sure that no one wants to transform our beloved game into a "yet another shooter" game.

    What I find humorous is that you named only MMOs that are AAA quality. I can think of a few that are indie quality that cost far less (I have even worked on some myself); even done by only a few developers in some instances.

    Don't place Neocron, clearly an indie game, into an AAA comparison.
