    I think the best idea is probably to allow animated avatars, but to restrict (a) the max size (physical file size more importantly) that can be used, and (b) come up with some sorta rules in regards to the animation its-self...
    Constantly flashing and weird avatars can be a huge distraction from the forum its-self!

    And then a few people decided to post really annoying gifs. Not sure any more.

    Ugh god no... That is exactly one of the reasons I have adblock extension installed in firefox to be able to block annoying images.
