    odds that it makes it to retail:

    100%, worst case they'll just put a nice label on the alpha and ship it as banana-ware.

    over/under amount of days it makes it past launch:

    hard to say - unlike a MMO the overhead to keep it alive should be fairly low (as a LAN based arena shooter, without requiring a centralized architecture, it could survive for a long, long time)
    PHP Code:
    "Computer voice: Fatal system error in unit 13, gamma sector, cryo recreation phase has been interrupted.";

    //answers
    set 4        "Ok, see you later";
    set 5        "You're boring me, piss off"

    Lost all interest the moment the announcement came up, I'm just not interested in playing another arena shooter. Although I can't blame KK for not trying another Neocron or Black Prophecy style game given how those turned out.

    Neocron with its expansions was a fairly profitable game and has made KK good money for a long time. It was always a small niche game, but still a successful. Replicating that success would probably be harder now - certainly not doable with the shoestring budget used to develop NC1. A Neocron 3 would require a much, much bigger investment upfront, but raising capital for non-AAA games that are not the umpteenth sequel of a game with an existing fan base, appears to be pretty hard these days.

    This is hard to say this but seems like people these days want the wow style button mash game play.

    Looks A LOT like Halo, IMO.

    Of course, I'll check it out. Old school Arena FPS' are seemingly making a comeback. We have this plus the new F2P Unreal Tournament and that arena shooter from CliffyB (formerly Epic Games) and his team.

    EDIT: Also, do I see a little Neocron inspiration on one of the maps?

    I dont think its what they "want", its what they have gotten used to and game developers see WOWs success and simply think "thats what people must love, so lets do that too".
    but its shit! Archeage was ruined because of the WOW clone style systems, that could have been the best game ever if it wasnt for that.

    The following only reflects my own, personal, opinion!

    I totally agree! Many companies do not do games because they want to make awesome games, but instead to make a lot of money. So they do what everyone in economics would recommend them: look at the market, see what performs best, adapt their ideas/products and clone them with a little touch of your own and you will become rich with not much effort.
    Same holds by the way for Microsoft: they thought that Apple is performing better than them, they looked at their platform et voila Windows 8 was born, trying to tell the user that their OS is smarter than them, which it definitely isn't.

    Reakktor is partially doing the same here, except for the fact that they also look at the past and have a look what performed best on the market. A rather welcome change in my opinion. But that's not the only thing which they did well. The fact that they did not loose any word about the game itself until it is mostly finished gameplay wise was also a nice strategic move, it helped to keep the expectations low. They are now in the position to rebuild trust into Reakktor games. Another thing they did right is aiming for a release way before the next iteration of Unreal Tournament therefore avoiding the direct competition for a long time, somehow like the guys behind Torchlight did. Their marketing campaign "no f2p" is along the same line as the "no more elves" campaign and it critizes the recent waves of pay to win games, something which many gamers have become sick of. All in all I think they are at least aiming in the right direction and doing a lot of things right, whether they are really right that's something the gamers in the end will have to decide. I for my part appreciate their efforts to bring back old-school gaming.

    I was a fan of Quake3 and although it is no where near the top of my favourite games ever list I am quite glad that they are aiming to make a shooter that isnt another "team based military game" like all of the CODs, battlefields and the 100's of others that have come out in the last 5 years or so, about time there was another proper free for all shooter.... and someone in the link posted above said $15?? If that price point is true then i think that is another good decision (assume it is enough on thier end).

    There are a number of games that follow this basic theme that have come out over the years. Many like Planetside keep getting reworked but keep the basic theme. Maybe people play them, I donno. I've checked out a few and its hard to stay interested in them. Not my style of game though. But them again I don't see what the attraction to MOAB's is, so maybe I'm just not a "normal" gamer.
