Also, was I the only one who was disappointed that this wasn't about nobby whoring himself out?

Call me an arsehole, but I think I'm reasonable here.
Plus I can't even get to where the town is, No bus to take me except school bus in morning, which I doubt would accept me on.
The council gets me a taxi to my college because of no bus routes available.
I'll look at night shifts maybe at Tescos, petrol stations, etc... sure you get at least 1.5 pay for night.

IIRC £5.73 is the minimum wage for 21 year olds, it's set at 3 barriers 16, 18 and 21.Originally Posted by Dribble Joy
If you can get into retail i wouldn't be too concerned with the other minimum wage limits, as long as you're over 18 from my experience most shops will pay you at the minimum wage for 21 year olds as it just make it easier for them by the looks of it (Yearly wage changes, overtime, holiday pay etc etc). Atleast this is an experience i've shared with my mates who've worked in retail since we were 17/18.

Hmmm... I thought it was over a fiver. When I was 17 I got 5.02 at Tescos though and that was nine years ago. It depends on who you work for I suppose.
Fulltime and/or salary based pay is generally more than the minimum wage.
If you have a degree or formal qualifications above A-levels you should be able to find something. But bear in mind the current climate.
Man that's absolutely baffling. Here in the US minimum wage is 7.25 USD an hour for everyone. Your minimum wage system makes no sense to me :P But hell nobby, if you're so strapped for cash that you're this desperate you have to do what you have to do. But what you do needs to be rational and not a 'quick fix'. If you gotta work at KFC then work at KFC. There are people over her with Masters degrees in business delivering pizzas and shit and they do it because they have to.
I used to work for a company that handled the data for clinical trials. Man some of those doctors (particularly the ones across the pond) were really not switched on when it comes to common sense!
That aside, i say milk it mate. You only live once and if the worst is gonna happen then youre in hospital anyway and they will fix you. Linking to that article (one episode of something going bad in i don't know how many millions of trials that are carried out around the world) is like saying don't drive because people get killed by cars.
Sorry but I don't mean to be obnoxious but if it was me I would take the money and let them poke me and prod me for all they wanted. I'm just a man whore i guess, not like hell demon though. Worse.
I took the very first job i was offered. Was doing 2 hours 6-8 on a morning in a frozen food shop, money was crap but it got me by. Applied to an agency that found me a job and they obviously take a cut of the pay and just grafted. After a while they realised i was a good worker and took me on a contract.Originally Posted by nobby
Then got promoted so went from about 9.5k to 12k a year. Then one of the m8's i worked with applied for a job within the company to which there were 2 positions and we both got it boosting our pay up to 15k. Now after working this job and gaining alot of experience i am now in a position to apply for jobs that pay 24k a year and thats part time :O
Nobby, I live in Cornwall which is a tourist trap. Before minimum wage was introduced you could work 8 hours a day, 5 days a week and only bring home £60 a WEEK. Not me obviously, but a hell of a lot of youngsters.Originally Posted by nobby
You would see jobs advertised at £1.80 an hour, or even less, and people would take them, people would have to take them.
Of course, youngsters these days (god I'm fucking old to say that) have it easy, a minimum wage, a maximum working week, not allowed to work past midnight etc.
You may laugh at working at KFC but you shouldn't, if you can get into KFC and show you are a good worker, they will keep you on and you can work your way up through the ranks until you get a managment position, work after midnight and your pay goes up, work bank holidays and your pay goes up.
You are still young, but you should now be thinking about a pension, seriously, you should be sticking aside £1-2k a year into a pension fund, there is no guarantee you will get a proper pension when you hit (whatever the age will be, probably 75) because by then the government will need to find about £36 BILLION a YEAR just to pay retired government workers (think about how much each person will have to pay in taxes just to cover that).
You can't pick and choose your job anymore, no job is for life, what matters is getting the right experience and not getting your arse on the dole, you shouldn't care that you work 10 hours and only bring in £50 and not £500, you should care that you actually have a job whilst people who have worked at the same company for 30 years are about to get laid off.
You don't get anywhere without hard graft and without taking *every* opportunity possible, working at KFC is a possibility (and fills up your CV), trying to get an above min. job when you are so young and without as much experience as a guy 10 years older who is, along with 50 other people, applying for the same job as you, is not going to happen.
Even Alan Sugar started out small, selling TV ariels from the back fo a van, work hard, take whatever chances you can, don't look for the easy solution, look for the long term viable solution.
Anna - lexx if you dont get that out of your sig im never talking to you again, and you know i mean that
honestly, who really WANTS to work anyway? //Edit (if you have to)

If you are at college I don't know if night shifts would be good for you, but evening shifts were never a problem for me when I was studying and working. Just get your foot in the door and in those sort of places it doesn't take much to make you stand out from the crowd, then you can start asking for a little bit extra pay.
