omg,

this kind of researching and science is the biggest nonsense i ve ever heard. Who is interested in the big bang when every day millions of ppl die through cancer, hiv and hunger - what about the ozone layer, cheaper fuel and more electricity in future? nevermind i like desert in germany tbh ^^

19 million euros electricity bill - wtf!

So what if people die? The planet is overpopulated as it is. Also, we can worry about fuel when it runs out.

I sure there are reasons why the LHC is so important, although I very much doubt it will be noticeable by anyone not in that scientific field.

Oh, just add about 50-60 years and everyone will use the results in all day products but still moan about the next giant experiment to show the nature's nature

I had just today a talk witha woman working at the same place I do, she is a complete ... well ... "noob" when it comes down to physics, and she was full into the illusion that relativity and radioactivity has only brought us the bomb, and she thought the same about the experiment.



Such thing's don't end with the experiment and confirmation or throw a way of a theory. It is just the start of the voyage to new understanding and technology. Who knows what we might find out about the nature of mass? Travel, safety, energy saving are all fields that might profit from discoveries here.
About the symetry: It does prossible infringe the safetly of are already in use tech: What about quantum encryption that can be listened to by a man in the middle attack because of a discovery that shows that it is still not possible to copy a quantum information carrier (which is why it is thought "safe"), but to create two identical from scratch. This would again allow listen again by bypassing the keygen with ease.
What about effects that can scan in atomic scale through interactions between masses/particles that allows better scanners in medical use. The MRT in your local hospital doesn't work without something that works like the quantum field theory perdicts unless you build e-magnets big as skyscrapers. A better understanding creates better technology to safe lifes.

Whoever calls such research nonsense should keep in mind that mankind wouldn't know the constructive nature of fire if we wouldn't test out such nonsense, destructive, pain causing thingy ...

We look to technology to help lives but we are also looking at better and more effeciate ways to end life. Warfare has been revolutionised by the computer chip, as has society. What if the next breakthrough gives way to more powerful weapons?

Point 1: Firing a stream of protons in one direction around the LHC is like a train doing 100 mph down a slightly curved track. Completely safe. It's when the train hits another train doing 100 mph in the other direction on the same track when things go awry.

Point 2: Even then nothing dangerous will happen.

Point 3: IMO, no matter how many trains they blow up they'll never find dark matter because I reckon it doesn't exist. It's just an absurd means of propping up a fatally flawed theory of gravitation, and you know what Occam has to say about shit like that... There are clues that our current theory needs a revamp (just as Einstein revamped Newtonian physics) - the Pioneer effect, for example.
