When will they create the stargate into new dimensions?

Lol, I can't say I expected it to be entertaining...
It was never going to create a black hole and suck up the Earth, was it?
Was you expecting to see funny glows from the equipment, massive hollywood style explosions, ILM style vortex effects?Originally Posted by nobby
Tell you one thing, it will be a close call deciding to watch live coverage from the LHC and the England match tonight!
No Combine invasion then?
What am I gonna do with my bulk order of crowbars?

They haven't put the sample in the test chamber yet.Originally Posted by Hell-demon

Yes - but what about my bulk order of crowbars?
Anyone want a crowabr?
Save humanity for £7.
No?

omg,
this kind of researching and science is the biggest nonsense i ve ever heard. Who is interested in the big bang when every day millions of ppl die through cancer, hiv and hunger - what about the ozone layer, cheaper fuel and more electricity in future? nevermind i like desert in germany tbh ^^
19 million euros electricity bill - wtf!

We have cures for cancer but drug companies keep it secret because cancer is profitable. But shush because....
Oh no the suits are here!
Where's my tin foil hat!!!

It was never going to be exciting as it was only a single high powered proton beam which was switched on to test the magnets. The next step will be to switch on a high powered proton beam in the opposite direction which should then allow them to collide them at 0.9998c.Originally Posted by L0KI
And the chances of a big black hole being created and swallowing us up are minimal to none.
I'm with you there, as I don't see why the media (and some ill informed people) are kicking up a fuss.Originally Posted by james_finn

If the device could make black holes then it would be shut down and destroyed. The media needed some news. Bird flu came and went, so did SARS and we need a good bit of scare mongering. This being very low. Still the LHC does look monolithic and sci-fi enough to do wonderous things. I suppose with hollywood's influence they make science seem more fun than it actually is.
I'd like to add that tin foil hats actually help conduct signals and psychic rays. The hats they do nothing!

Well I can prove that research is going into at least two of the things you have pointed out there. I am currently on a summer school for physics, and a conference is also here for cancer research. Also a lot of my colleagues are working on way to detect cancer for their PhD research. The second thing is ozone depletion, I myself am currently one year into my PhD looking into the processes involved with the destruction of the ozone layer through chlorine free radicals.Originally Posted by Tyler_Durdon
I sure there are reasons why the LHC is so important, although I very much doubt it will be noticeable by anyone not in that scientific field.
