    Default Textures

    Hi all

    I've noticed that over at Neocron Classic community they have greatly improved some of the wall and sign textures. I'm not sure how much work this would require but it certainly makes the game look more up to date.

    The million dollar question is: are textures on the road map for NC official? and if so is it a near update? (i noticed we got updated doorbells)

    We do had implemented a similar technique in 2014 and it's deployed to the current version of the Neocron already.
    There are a lot of engine features yet compared to the other versions of Neocron as you can see here:











    In the meanwhile the focus had changed - For the coding side of things all resources (me ;p) where moved to the balancing while the assets team was moved to the development of decals, skymaps and actors.

    We do have a "stabilization sprint" running currently to get some broken or inconvenient***sorted.

    I do really think that we return to the active engine development in the next time.

    I think some of the high resolution re-textures look out of place. The sewers on NCC all have that new high rez concrete/marble looking texture and it feels off to me. Another example would be the new high rez boxes on Titan; they are so much higher rez and dirty/grungy looking that they look out of place, in my opinion.

    Art upgrades are welcome, but I hope they're never a high priority. Graphics upgrades and missions are static content that players either get used to or consume and forget about. I know a separate team works on art, so I'm not too worried about it detracting from other content. I just don't think art will raise the population. Dynamic content like OP wars and clan politics is the kind of stuff that if improved, will raise the population and sustain it.

    The reason the sewers have the high-res texture assets like that as well, is simply because we hadn't fixed it so our texture guys could separate them depending on zones, so textures were applied globally.

    This is fixed, now, and they are working on proper area-specific textures now

    Also to add, just because we're upgrading textures doesn't mean we aren't focusing on gameplay assets as well We're doing both.
