Default Better PvP and PvE through Nanites

Today (as of R#189) we have an unfortunate dependency on the PPU as the only supporter class in NC. In PvE this takes us to dual-logging, in PvP there is a tendency to deploy a battleforce made up of 50% PPUs, just to make sure every damage dealer is supported properly. This dependency is limiting the variation of playing styles and forcing players to cap APUS and LOM to PPU after.

This situation can be eased by introducing additional nanite tools. Right now there are TL 16 (see below) and 40 heal nanite tools, the latter still suitable for all classes. By adding nanite heals of (around) TL 60 and 100, PEs and tanks would be more independent from PPU support (while a skilled PPU player probably still would be preferable). To enhance this newly gained independence, we need new damage blocker nanite tools (also TL 60ish and 100ish) - comparable to already available damage blocker drugs and discontinued (NC 2.1) damage blocker psi modules.

The proposed new nanite tools would probably be found in hacknet databases, or at specialised vendors within BT and FA HQs.

Of course nanite and psi effects can only be used alternatively, so if you use nanite heal and damage blocker, you are no longer benefiting from psi heal and shields, just boosters.

I love options, I think this is a great idea, I think that giving people an option to play more support roles without necessarily using Psionics is great, it gives people opportunities to be effective where they normally wouldn't be. Imagine the Private Eye trying to use PPU methods of being support, they might never quite get where the Psionic Monk will, but now they can augment their abilities with nanite injectors, it gives a myriad of options, this is a great idea Torg!

in R#189, it doesnt appear to me PEs and tanks being overpowered. so why not give them a boost? btw i believe that both APU and spy are meant to be some kind of glass cannons, not just the former.

I... can't exactly follow that logic. Unless you are implying that, if they are not OP they must consequently be UP...

Well, what if we added an additional use restriction to injectors to make them balance out more for a more directed/specialized support class use? I mean, it looks like one restriction--body health--is rather, I don't know, a little lame? Maybe we should include a small implant limitation for using them? This way it's definitely a support class item, but at the same time it becomes a little more exclusive? Pokers get an opportunity to get out in the field as well, and opens up another avenue of support class?

This. The PE should be able to be the jack of all trades. Right now, they suck at everything.

When they fix shields/heals and make some of them able to be in range of use by the PE you'll see progress in the "support" field.

Adding more "solo" options, such as more tools, are not a fix. It's a shitty band-aid.
<-December 2001, do you see that?

PE's are better now than they have been in years. The TL3 heal is pretty dope at the moment. PE's are the best 1v1 class right now, and may actually outclass Spies in opfights.

Tanks on the other hand need a damage output buff, not a healing buff. Their damage is so low they are undesirable in op fights. Giving them the ability to heal themselves won't fix that... It will just make tanks the new best 1v1 class, which doesn't really count for shit.

I do believe that one path to reducing PPU dependency can be through nanites. I don't believe this is the right start, however.
