    Post NEOSQUARE - a small mapping project for Neocron

    Hi everyone!

    I've started a small mapping project for Neocron, called Neosquare.

    Created in my spare time (vectorising the map from available images was a pain in the ass, btw ^^), the current version is more a proof of concept with just a few features (try to search for "fortress"). But don't panic - more stuff coming soon! :)

    I would appreciate it, if you could take a look: http://antidot.org/neosquare/

    If you have any suggestions, what has to be on the map (beside the usual suspects like outposts, persons or POIs) - drop me a line: me@antidot.org

    Thanks!

    Pedro / Antidot

    P.S.: Don't shoot the cartographer! :D

    Suggestion of something that would be just as important (and less obvious) than gene replicators - Goguardians and possibly vehicle garages.

    Not everyone knows there are public goguardians in certain zones and even less people probably know about all of the warp garages (besides the obvious ones).

    Good point. I'll put this on my list.

    Well, as a project not bad. You've put yourself some work on the table^^

    Tho i'm not really sure where its place is among all the other maps and services.

    me too, just haven't figured out how to deploy units to sectors yet.
    PHP Code:
    "Computer voice: Fatal system error in unit 13, gamma sector, cryo recreation phase has been interrupted.";

    //answers
    set 4        "Ok, see you later";
    set 5        "You're boring me, piss off"

    Now that's a cool little project. Will be interesting to see what to see what you do with it next.

    Small bug - when you zoom in, the names of the outposts and points of interests disappear.

    @William Antrim: Thanks. :)

    @Drachenpaladin: Yeah, a shitload of work. ;) And yes, there are some other maps. First of all, the brilliant THN Map. But my approach was, to create a clutter free and fast map which is usable on a tablet or smartphone while I'm exploring the Wastelands. Also - the map runs on our business server cluster. That means, available forever! :D

    @aKe`cj: :D ... displaying player on the map in real time via AJAX/JSON should not be a big problem ... calling air support (or vehicles) to a choosen destination - I like the idea. ;)

    @Brammers: Thank you. The next steps will be, organising all objects in GEOjson files, tweaking the UI and add some magic. Also on the list - the small bug you found; The current map tiles are a quick'n'dirty-pre-alpha-whatever version, they will be replaced with decent location titles, buildings, and detailed maps of outposts, optimized for the selected zoom level. WiP :)

    would be great to see a basic 3D render of outposts or points of interest when zooming.

    @Alduin: Thanks. I'm also curious to see what's yet to come. ;)

    @Ascension: A basic 3D render for outposts and POIs - that's exactly what I had in mind.

    @Ascension / @William Antrim: Street View ... well, I'll put it on the list. Right after mapping the hunting grounds for rainbow pooping unicorns. :D

    Nice, is there a way to get "live data" like "who owns this outpost" into this map?

    Thanks, Z.

    Live data: Did the system/game server provide an API (e.g. REST/JSON), that I can use to display "things" on the map? :)
