I tried to log in this evening using the launcher, a few times, with no success. I LATER found the twitter and FaceBook posts saying not to do that, or risk getting locked out. I seem unable to log in using just the client, either. How bad is it, and what can I do?

You should be able to login as normal using the launcher as of earlier this morning.

Just have a look at the upper right corner and make sure you selected the retail server.
