    Default DvD Burner?

I have a video from my digital camera loaded on my PC, it's an Avi. file.

What utility can i use to burn this onto a DVD, so i can post it to my folks? They have a standard DvD player, no PC so i want it to just play for them.

Any ideas? a Freebie would be nice not something i have to buy

    Thanks guys!

Yes i am on Google but loads of free trail shite

If you're using Vista, or know someone who has Vista, Windows DVD Maker can do it for most formats.

First find on google: Avi2Dvd ( Freeware ) Official Page

"Avi2Dvd is an All In One tool in order to convert with just few clicks an Avi/Ogm/Mkv/Wmv/Dvd to Dvd/Svcd/Vcd."

"This utility is 100% freeware and uses only freeware software.

    I recommend:

    AVStoDVD

It's very simple to use, and uses some of the best freeware video programs.

The latest Nero (Version 8) is capable of this, in typical 'one-click' wizard form.

It's also extremely quick at converting the files, unlike a lot of the free stuff.

    As for free ones:

Easy DVD Creator - I used to use that. It's decent!

u can convert the file with tmpgenc e.g. to an mpeg1,2 video format.

then use the (super-)video cd burn options in nero for example :-)

Just a small note; If you can play it in VLC player but not in Windows Media Player or the DVD program, it is probably using a special codec.
VLC has a heapload of codecs built in, so that is able to play it. You should be able to see what codec it is in VLC.

You can then try to find that codec and install it in Windows. That way basically any DVD creation program should be able to handle it.
An alternative could be to transcode it with VLC to simple MPEG or something.

    hmm.....search the deep memory....

It wouldn't play in Windows Media player, went on one about codecs way back last year, thats when i just grabbed the old faithful VLC which handles everything

I may look into that, Thank You!

The other thing is, reading around, that some of the above convertors lose quality etc, so i may have some other issues i will be back with

Otherwise you can find out what codec it is with a little utility called GSpot - just be careful what you search for on google to get there though....

Yeah, probably becuase the codec was not installed in Windows. Most of those programs use whatever codecs you have installed.
You could try installing latest ffdshow-tryouts, that includes most codecs.
