Visiting Vets Thread (renamed)

So i can see I'm not the only old school veteran who wondered what has happened with the lost love that is NeoCron.

Well, I have to admit, I'm curious about what has been done to the environment and game after 2 more years of much needed development. I was one of those who always thought Neo was one step away from greatness but just kept missing the boat once upon a time, in their potential for a meaningful political environment alone.

Perhaps the boat is finally docked?

What's the best way now to get reacquainted with the particulars of the game environment and structure, etc.

However, I don't expect miracles, I've seen a few graphics updates (.....hmm)
And a mention of a faction revamp..
...nothing on new content beyond that :I

I'm going to give NC another try, look for me leveling a 10-day trial account in a sewer near you sometime this week or next.

I see this ending in one of two ways: I either quit again on the first day that I come back, or end up quitting after I become addicted and end up failing all my finals 8| It's basically a lose-lose situation, but hey what the hell.

Good to see a lot of you old (old old) school Pluto / beta guys hanging around here. The community is truly what made the game so fun so very, very long ago.

Man its been awhile. Im gonna try nc2 out for my free 10 days, then bring back the old chars back on dec1 when all the expired accounts get 14 free...if i read correctly. see ya in game

As much as I played so far, with the 2 week free trial, it's not very different. Yeah there's eyecandy like new weapon models/skins and there are some large trees in outposts that witness epic battles, but the gameplay seemed the same. I don't mind, because I only ever played NC for its community and the cool fights that sometimes came about.

That information isn't entirely in the public domain as yet. Mainly it's a complete overahaul of vegetation and various other scenery models (as you can see from the screenshots above), engine performance improvements (we have reports of people running faster in the wastelands with full detail than they did in the past with the vegetation turned off), engine lighting improvements, new areas, weapons, vehicles, mobs, boss-mobs, quests, re-modelled weapons, weapon animations and new sounds. We have a new storywriter and we've launched a brand new and exciting storyline. The faction system has been revamped so that it's no longer "Red vs. Blue" - inter-faction rivalries are now coming back to the fore. The system of zone rules has been re-written to improve interaction with the storyline and reduce the impact of random ally-PKing. I'm sure there are other things I've not mentioned but basically this is quite a revolutionary update for the game and we hope that it will appeal to new blood (heh, almost literally) as well as many of our past customers. Oh, and a new website of course! We're also re-skinning the forums to match the new website in the next few weeks.

There's also a cool isometric 3D Neocron-inspired shooter. More on that later.

Mr. Nidhogg, if I sign up for a trial account will I be able to transfer my NC-1 characters onto it for the duration of the trial?

Also, do I need a credit card to sign up for the trial?

My understanding is that you can only transfer characters to a full account. Yes, you need a credit card to sign up for the trial.
