I get no sound in the main menu..

After installing NC version 2.2.185.46 and updating to 189# I get absolutely no sound in the main menu etc.... all other games or youtube etc. still work, just not neocron... whats wrong...

- win xp, 32bit (got win7 on the other pc, thought playing nc at win xp is better)

Which of the following options did you have selected and which ones did you change?

Run DirectX Install [x]
Run C++2010SP1 Runtime Install [x]
Run Neocron as Administrator [x]
Install Neocron 2 to connect to the Public Test Server [ ]

The install directory
- C:D:\Games\Neocron 2.2 CE

Perform a file check - are there any broken files?
No.

Start NC - Does it prompt you for the GFX setting?
Yes.

Does the cool NC music play?
Sadly... no.... :(

It happend to me once.

If I rememeber correctly, I launched the game from the shortcut placed onto the desktop by the installer.

No problem if I lauched the game from the .exe or by using a shortcut from my gamelist into Steam.

Try at least those options to see if my memory don't make me tricks ^^.

If there's still the problem, I can't help you further.

But I launch the game from the shortcut item been placed by the installer onto the desktop as you mentioned and I still get no sound, the FX sound is working yeah, but not the background sound.

Both the volume sliders in the sound options in main menu are set to the maximum.

I also experienced this:

When going to my games directory in c:/games/
then /neocron 2.2 ce
then /sound
then /mp3

and when I open the mp3 file mainmenu I can hear the main menu music, yeah windows media player is opening that file and plays it correctly.

And when I go to the /ini folder and open the file "bgmusic.ini" I get this:

As you can clearly see "mainmenu.mp3" is listed correctly in the [MENU] music section
with the path: Track=.\sound\mp3\mainmenu.mp3
but I am wondering if theres a lack of folder \neocron 2.2 ce folder.......

or whatever problem that is... I am really very irritated...

You don't understand me right.
I got the problem once by launching the game from the desktop shortcut but not with the .exe and a Steam gamelist's shortcut.

I try to reproduce the problem but failed and I don't remember clearly if I reinstall the game in another location or begin using the Steam shortcut.

My game now is install into a C:/Games/neocron2 directory on a Windows 7 family premium 64bit OS and so I'm using a shortcut linked to the launcher.exe into the Steam gamelist (no other problems to report, my game is fluid, smooth, no frequent crashes, etc... and all sounds and musics plays! ^^).

Sorry I may have misunderstood you. The background sound problem still exists when I run the neocronlauncher.exe from then c:\games\neocron 2.2 ce folder

Also the background sound is not working ingame, no matter which zone I am in.

Maybe win xp causes the problem, maybe NC isnt compatible on win xp anymore?

confirming no sound in the main menu, no matter what exe is used. also running xp.
