Weapon discussion: Hacknet combat category

We tried to make the hackers’ life within Hacknet easier in this category – therefore there are a few changes that will be tested and fine-tuned by us. One thing to note right away: During the balancing project, we won’t be able to implement any additional changes that would improve the variety in Hacknet.

First, the general Hacknet changes:
The calculation for the health, stamina and hacking (replaces PSI energy) values have been changed – the influence of the main skill Intelligence and the subskill Hacking have been increased, which results in higher values.

Furthermore, the hacker has received a special resistance calculation for energy and x-ray (the only damage types in Hacknet) – these calculations are also based on Intelligence and Hacking. We have decided on this solution because a Hacker’s possibilities to skill in the pure subskills are very limited.

These changes only apply inside the Hacknet – in normal sectors, the Hacker is treated like all other runners.

The existing weapons have been checked and restructured – however they are still based (from a technical point of view) on PSI modules. An overview of the weapons:
-HEW Attack Software (Hacknet Combat)

-Cryton Multilink Regeneration Software (Hacknet Group Support)
-Cryton Defense Software (Hacknet Support)
-Cryton Multilink Defense Software (Hacknet Group Support)

All Hacknet modules exist in at least 3 variations (respectively strengths) – in addition there’s a rare version for each. All Hacknet modules are balanced with a HighTech status, the classification of their properties is based on the values for APU and PPU modules.

For comparison or as a reminder, here’s the general weapon concept again:

The usage of heals and shields has changed – however we will only provide the details in the PPU discussion. The power of heals and usage of Hacknet energy are still being thoroughly tested, so there can still be adjustments in the future.

hmm a 2 minute duration on hacknet heals... i suppose it makes it different, but i think there might be some problems with the heals not working after zoning, dunno could end up tactical in some cases, thought i'd remind you of this problem though =]

Why not have a different skill affect armour/hp and another the offencive powers?

Other wise you just max out hacking/int and you're like an old hybrid.

Make say.... will power affect armour/hp and hacking the equivalent offence skill.
Then you could have variation in setups, with imps that act like a ppr or an distance imp.

And again, distaste for the WoC dmg bonus.

Thought i'd point out that you TOTALLY ignored the facts of mutlilink attack software. Which btw is total bull. Fix it so not everyone is using the same damn modules in hacknet. make it so you either have the hard hitting slow firing normal attack software or the quick-fire low dmg multilink attacks. ESPECIALLY for the pvm standpoint where you're maknig mobs have damagable armor.

In my opinion there really is no point balancing hacknet weapons unless you are going to add some content to hacknet that makes people want to go in there.
I really dont consider the item data bases as worthy content and the PVM is very poor.
Ok you can argue that adjusting the weapons will balance out the fighting involved for ops but is that really enough to warrant hacknets continued development?

It needs to be fun!
Which is something that sinces its introduction, hacknet has failed to attain.
Maybe you could put the staff resources to better use else where.

Thus far this thread has been like a ghost town. If you were to show us something related to hacknet content/mob/npc/quest additions or improvements it might stir up some interest in discussion.
But as it is, it looks like very, very few people give a damn which is a pity as hacknet could of been good.

i just dont see the point in balancing hacknet, everyone logs out at the hackterm when they are taking the outpost lol

basic PvP and PvE balance need to be done to have a base for content.

but i agree, there need to be 10000 things done to give HN some sense.

Why balance hacknet? It is dull, boring and useless.

It was a great idea by you think tanks in KK, but in practical use, it is nearly worthless.

Faction only items? Only works on one character slot servers. Totally broken in multi slot servers.

Levels are dull as hell. I fall asleep in hacknet it is to repetative and boring.

Fighting in hacknet? Really? Everytime I kill a monster in hacknet it's body falls to the floor of the level, making looting impossible.

I know you guys said in the very first seentence "We are not adding anything new to hacknet"

Then why bother balancing something no one uses. Who cares. No one in NC cares, I can tell you that. And anyone that does care, hasn't got bored with it yet. Tell them to stop DLing crap from their own Database and walk from nc to doy. Its faster walking over the wastelands than it is in hacknet, plus, you dont fall asleep walking over the wasteland.

you can balance HN all you want through your quantitative values, since this would probably be a very quick process to make it match the outside world more... but i still say you should fix the multilink attack software to shoot faster than 105/min... add SLIGHT diversity to HN.

But who honestly cares about HN? It is a joke. You have to make something fun and usable before you can balance anything for it. Why waste a minute of coding and developing for a system that is more boring than doing missions for sympathy.

About the only thing Hacknet is good for is for OP waring, but even this isn't required. I mean, why bother? Hacknet was stuck in as part of OP waring just to force users to snooze into hacknet and not waste the server space that is hacknet by having no one go into it.

And putting items that are old in the game in hacknet just so people with hacknet runners can get is just putting a carrot on a stick, hovering over a piece of shit. It's like saying "Hey guys, we took some crap you used to have and stuck it over there. All you have to do know is devote a character slot to hacknet and drag yourself over miles of shit to get them!"

All "we" are saying to you, the think tanks at KK, is balance HN all you want. This will probably be the least used area in the test server because only 3 people care about it.

The only thing I feel would make hacknet a bit more palatable would be to make sure killed monsters in ahckent fall on the floor you can loot them on, instead of always falling to the hacknet floor.

Speaking about"sympathy missions"... Could you add some that could be done inside hacknet ?
