>Neocron - A look into it's past via time machine!

Alright, the internet archive WaybackMachine has archived over 30+ billion web pages
from 1996 to 1993 with hundreds of terabytes of data.

Now what to look back on.... well.. neocron!!!

Be sure to have some free time before you get into this, there's so much stuff
you can go through from the past in the archived neocron pages, it's great. I
enjoy reading the forum posts from 1999-2000-2001..

You'll be surprised and humored by the stuff you encounter, if you start from
the beginning Like i will be doing below, you'll slowly see neocron.com evolve.
Veterans of this game will enjoy seeing past content as well as newcommers
can get an idea of neocrons "roots". ("Know your roots" :P )

So anyway, I'll just list some links to what I found funny/cool/interesting etc
from 1996 till the current archive and you can check out the other stuff at
those links as well. The great part about the WaybackMachine engine is that
it has sublinks and subpages working in sync with their parents, so you can
browse posts of a forum way back. When you find something interesting, post
your finds back here with dates as well :)

WELCOME TO THE #1 VIRTUAL CITY PROJECT
-Original site they made I guess, very basic with navigation frame on left and
5 minute design on main target frame.. :)
-None of links works there except the Old forum link from 1999, you can
check it out here

The project will be released in Q4/2001.
-Look at the home page, it wasn't half bad.. none of the links seem to work
but it's still cool

Unlike most other MMORPGs, Neocron uses state of the art 3D technology...
-lol, love the Neocron Tech Specs statement, if it were said today I think the'd
get laughed at horribly.
-Notice how fan orientated neocron.com used to be? they even listed info
about other fansite updates where as only fansites post updates about
neocron now.
-Check out the Design, FAQ buttons etc and this early review at RPG PLANET, awesome :P

CDV has launched their new "Community Talent Finding Quest".
-New smaller resolution layout, same design
-They asked people to submit random NPC names because their name generator
made goofy names, this explains the current weird NPC names !

B4 Game Client - Download the neocron beta4 client right here (~1,2 GB)
-Getting closer to the current site design heh. This is what the site looked like
during the early Beta4 process, this is what i saw the first time... I only signed
up because i figured a game 1.2 GB's big had to be something cool inside. :P
-Beta patch 156 notes , High-level monsters may now drop item parts of rare weapons
oh gee i remember reading that and posting to remove it :P

So this is where i stop, at the point where i started playing. From sept23
till now there isn't much differences to note, except news posts and small
stuff like that.. if your interested check the archive index. Also be sure to
check out the fan sites, some of big fansites like neocroncentral are there.

I have attached 5 screenshots of all pre sept. 2002 archived webpages incase
some of you have trouble viewing them as it's quite slow.

So that's it, alot of fun eh. Share your thoughts, comments, finds and rate the thread :)

I was thinking today of coming back to NC, haven't played it for about a year now... This takes me back to when I first found it 3 and a half years ago. Yow, that long?? I remember that orange and black website, and I was drawn to that olde pic of the city from above, looking like it was from Blade Runner or something. Good post mate.

Yeh he's from beta2, not sure who he is... But he is had the name like mine is now,
I would never have thought someone would have taken this kind of name, I
use it all the time... So i decided to use a zer0 in the name.

Also, all the servers have a Paradox on it, either someone from beta4 stole my
chance to get that name by beating me to it or the dude from beta2 came back
to check out retail. whichever reason i'm parad0x, from beta4 and retail.

JS: There will be one in each major territory. We start with US and Europe, but we are also in negotiations with Asian ISPs.

My bet is that profits gained from the initial release would have been used to get server space in the US and asia.

good lord thats VERY old:) i even remmeber when they added item decay, man the old days:)
me madness, zehav and few others ambushed you at the sewer and you like speed past us and got away:)really liked that old time when everybody past level 10 could pvp:)
hell even people with the mutant rifle could, it used to stack flames on you:)

Ah yes... beta 4. Best time of my (NC) life. :p

I must say that a lot of n00bs had some nasty surprises when rats started protecting their friends. :lol:

I also remember before they made melee an always-hit weapon class. People in beta would look at me like I was crazy for using melee (and rifles... as a tank :p). Then they upgraded melee to always-hit and all my friends were jealous (sp?) of how fast I was killing the mobs. :lol: (This was back when the damage of melee still sucked ass.)

*sigh* Remembering the days when I was a clueless newbie brings back some strong nostalgia.

hehe i rmeber my 3rd day i was atatcked in sewers by a PE :) while i was droning but he didnt know i had a smg :0 thats probly the first time i tasted blood in nc :)

there were 50 people litterally in the city sewers punching spiders and stuff..

Or even when they upgraded the noob mob AI to tell their friends to help them,
there were like 30 rats chasing noobs out of the sewer... Hilarious.
