You pretty much can only run the game in resolutions that you can select. I recommend choosing a non-widescreen resolution, anyways, because the game displays graphical glitches in widescreen.
I never had a problem with widescreen glitches, yes they are there, but not that annoying.
Thats one of the things i posted about a couple weeks ago.
There is a command you put into your .ini that allows odd resolutions.
The command was posted by a GM in this thread http://forum.neocron.com/archive/index.php/t-97934.html which is now gone - but was there a month or so ago - i suppose the new forum ruined some of the archive.
If anyone knows the command, please post it! It allows you to input and run any resolution you like, like 1920x1080.
I think you need to change the line in neocron.ini using notepad
PREFMODENAME = "1920x1080x32"
Save the file in notepad and finally right click the neocron.ini file and set to read only.
I have no idea if that will work but your allowed to change it as far as I'm aware.
/edit obviously change it to the resolution and colour depth you want it to use
Example for the OP
PREFMODENAME = "1600x900x32"
and for 16 bit colour depth
PREFMODENAME = "1600x900x16"
wow, i cant believe the knowledge is lost!
Even an oldie like little terror cant remember :(
nah there was a command beyond that.
Maybe it was hardcoded ages ago, which is why noone knows??? (??)
it was like ALLOWCUSTOMRESOLUTION=1 or something that is close to obvious like that.
It used to be that when you set your .ini to something it didnt like, it would just revert unless you had that line down the bottom of the .ini.
I hope someone can shed some light on this, because it would be cool to see NC take up my whole monitor in 1920x1080, even with the widescreen glitches.
What Lil T posted....
Just change it in the ini file, running it windowed at 1280x700 and fullscreen at 1920x1080 no problem.
The map ingame is odd at non 4:3 resolutions, but you should know it by heart anyway by now.
People might be forgetting to set the ini file to read only after making changes, if they can't select their resolution from the drop down menu in hardware configuration, the game will over write any custom changes in the ini file if its not set to read only.
I've not had to change resolution in the ini file, so I have not idea if it works, I'm just guessing. I'm currently using 1440x900 at fullscreen.
/edit
Also I think your desktop will have to be set to the resolution and your monitor must support it, I know that sounds self explanatory, but some might not have it setup right.
I tried 1600x900 in the .ini file, when the game starts it simply forces me to change the resolution.
Any ideas?
Same here, if you know a way around it please say so.
Check this thread http://forum.neocron.com/showthread....52#post2032652
fuck that thread, I've found the solution :)
http://neocron.dk/?action=patchQuote:
- New option in neocron.ini: 'LIMITMODES = "FALSE"' removes the limitation of the fullscreen modes. No liability for display errors in the main menu and R.P.O.S. (In other words, you can use uncommon resolutions like widescreen)
its in the patch notes for patch 188
FUUUUUUUUCK!! LIL T!!!! you found it!!!!
you found it!!!!
can we get this stickied please???
LIL T FUCKING FOUND IT!!!!
Will get a copied resource over on the THN at somepoint, or a stickied thread on the forums somewhere :)
I havent tested it man, but by seeing it i know its what i was after and yes it will work.
Thank you again!
I did not fix it, I found it, I kind of cringe up at people giving so much praise for using a simple google search phrase...
You're a strange man but you remind me of a lot of real life friends I have, which is why you're fucking awesome hehe.
I'm glad it worked, I knew it would when I saw it, all i remembered was there was a command added to the ini file and it was in some patch notes that enabled me to find it using google. The neocron patch notes are gold and they will never fade, at first I was searching the same way others had done and finding most of the threads not in cache and i even used the way back machine web site to try and dig it up. But patch notes man, they are every where :)
Yeah but you saved me Googling it myself...slave.
haha you say it was easy, i tried for a few hours over a couple of days to try and find that command, i even went through all of those patch notes and missed it.
Now the challenge is to not let it get lost again, Along with the ingame commands its one of those things that should be stickied in the newbie area and should never have been taken down!
Every time ive reinstalled ive searched for ages for that command, if i hadnt bookmarked it i would have about 3 topics about it going.
Good job T!!
This worked for me in the neocron.ini
PREFMODENAME = "WindowMode"
WINDOWMODE = "1680x1050"
its almost fullscreen reso in window mode; you have to make sure you change neocron.ini to read only after editing. also I have to be in D3D7 mode
Thats just a bad dodgy way of doing what T refound for us.
I would suggest using the limitmodes=false to allow proper fullscreen widescreen (i always hated windowed mode) and it stops newbies and other coming back after a long break from having so many problem that are easily avoided.
windowed mode is the shit and mandatory for multi boxing limitmodes is kinda cool though
I think you mean duel clienting.
Does the game crash when you tabout in windowed mode? or not because you arent actually tabbing?
I am on win 7 64, If i run as admin, in win xp serv pack 3 compatibility mode, windowed and separate installs.... then yes I can box at least three clients probably tons more lol.
if you done all that then you should be able to tab without crashing aside from random FRE's upon zoning, if only i could run d3d9 with ATI that greatly reduces FRE's on zoning
yeah it needs putting on a wiki or something because some day someone else will have the same problem, and then this thread will be hard to find.
They need a FAQ section somewhere with this sort of information, so when people ask they can be pointed to the answers.
PREFMODENAME = "1600X900X32"
PREFWINDOWSIZE = "1600X900X32"
LIMITMODES = "FALSE"
work for me :)
