Yeah, as much as they add a level of realism and depth to solo RPGs, I'm not sure the accurate implementations of sustenance and bodily functions are that necessary for an MMO.

I think that too much content and customization may be detrimental to the game. For example, i've played Second Life, and while the concept is good, the reality is that too much freedom ends up with a world filled with trash and poorly designed content.
What i suggest is release a Creation Kit with some boundaries that allows for fans to create content and send to the Devs via an appropriate channel that would permit for a quick revision and approval or dissaproval of the content to add to the game.
Or, make competitions with unique / rare items as a reward but with tight and rigid rules of content making, so the Dev's aren't overwhelmed with material and then have to spent ages sorting it out.
But i do believe that there are very talented people out there that would gladly do it for fun and because they are fans. That shouldn't be ignored, since the players themselves know best what the game needs and usually they don't have to be paid for it. At least in $$. Rare items, unique appartments, etc... are good enough lol.
Now, regarding NC3, a bit of fiction...
Storywise, perhaps a highly advanced techno-virus hits the current world and there's obviously no cure for it. It's a technology no one has ever seen or can even understand.
The populations go down fast, the remaining factions and classes are forced to take what they can and flee looking for a new place to reside.
Venturing beyond the NC map was impossible due to high levels of radiation, but new breakthroughs on research by biotech make the development of radiation resistant armor possible, so they become the richest faction since everyone wants one so they can flee and survive.

Due to modular technology it's easy to rebuild. Other factions find new areas to make their HQ's, and a new city arises. Biotech seizes the techno-virus in a secret lab so they can decode this never before seen technology. It's not hybrid, but a new form of life based on hacknet programs, just outside the hacknet.

Jaeon: Yeah, I totally agree I think second life customisation would be way too far, there would be no way to keep it in theme as mentioned before - you think that people should still be able to submit wholly unique 3D models and animations to the company for approval? that could be pretty cool :)
I still don't really know what I would want from a storyline really, I kind of like the idea of game politics mostly being ran by players but I also know that can turn up as a very antisocial place when players are given power without oversight due to human nature (prisonexp.org), I only really trust paid staff to moderate neutrally in most circumstnances - the volunteer mods here are only ok at the moment because there is no real game politics for them to be involved in, otherwise I think there would be a lot of conflict of interest issues and people helping each other covertly, I remember rumours of GM corruption in neocron years ago with some people being given lots of extra items whilst others get ignored etc
I really do like the idea of player politics controlling the story but not sure how to make it in a way that doesn't just reward those who spend the most time playing (e.g. the people that are often LEAST suited to run anything because they have low social skills!) but is also more friendly for casual players, people with jobs and families

However I personally like to see NC3 based around this time, in other words a prequel to Neocron, where the Gentanks first rise and there is a massive war on between the Dome and Neocron. However that sort of implies Red vs Blue fighting (Which I don't want to see come back) and also how Tokyo II fits in...err yeah there are holes in my idea! :)

NC might have these mechanics below already in place, but i'm not really sure as it seems random nowadays, since not many people ingame, and all i end up doing is soloing stuff.... so here's my take on it anway!
I'd like to see a stronger dynamic of teams. One MMO i played (Rappelz) had nailed this almost perfectly in the low-mid level dungeons.
The system was Healer/rezzer + tank + damage dealer(s) + buffer/creature controller. And the dynamic between them was really really good.
This is very similar to NC, but at the same time very different, because of the aggro/threat AI.
In NC i guess it's more of a 2 sided thing (apu+ppu) or solo act. It's fine, but it would be good to see people cooperate in an easier and more effective way.
Better aggro and threat level recognition AI - as in tough mob detects threat level and ignores you if you are a low level player, but attacks you if you are strong enough to survive a few hits; stick around too much time and then you get attacked either way (as in turf defense). If the mob is being tanked or fought this does not apply. This would prevent one hit kills when randomly running around unless you're really careless and stop in front of a tough mob for more then 5-10 seconds.
Or when hunting in teams if a player deals more damage per second then you, then mob changes agression towards the stronger player unless that player is a designated tank - perceived as a higher threat then the damage dealer.
Ranged Damage over Time mobs are problematic as of right now and should be revised in NC3.
Range reduction for sure, if possible with use of physics too. If a snake spits venom it should have a limit of reach. As of now, you go in a dungeon and a snake spits venom from across 3 rooms and it hits you. Then it stacks. Then you die.
I mean, they can be lethal, but at least you should be able to logically avoid them if you're not in range (realistic range of a few feet, not super snakes that throw venom for yards as soon as they see you.)
I'm not a game designer, i'm just a player, but i know that these things can be adjusted for a better playing experience.
So, i believe there's needed work on the threat level and aggression AI systems.
Less penalties when hit would be good too. For example, when you go around the map and a typically high level mob shoots at you from a long distance and it slows you down, you're basically screwed because chances of fleeing it drop down dramatically and then you get hit some more and then you die... and then you still have to deal with:
If you don't have LE in, you may drop an implant/item on the spot, meaning if you want it back you'll have to go there again and risk losing more stuff.
Then when you revive you have SI and need to wait minutes. Then you have to go around asking for pokes.... it's too much work and a bit frustrating.
If taking out the LE is more for PVP, then remove the dropping of belt if you're killed by anything other then a player.
I know that it's what makes NC what it is, but i'm sure that those mechanics can be revised and optimized for a better gaming experience. :)
I'm trying to help by sharing my point of view, so i hope it's seen as such, since i would really like to see an NC3 in the future, one that is a joy to play, and not frustrating / too much work to play on.
