Hi you guys :)
Sorry I've faded out of existance for a while. We got a fancypants new computer and had a little bit of difficulty setting the thing up! Everything runs a lot smoother now (I'm really looking forward to being able to play Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion when it comes out next week, I totally loved Morrowind)
I have a lot of stuff to respond to! Long post ahead!
What an amazingly great reason not to try again! I mean, there's no way that you could have improved over the past few years. And even if it's not up to your standards right now, practicing it will never ever improve it! I swear DJ, sometimes you can be so pessimistic and stubborn! Give it a shot, you really might be suprised!Quote:

Apparently people find that attractive? (WTF?) Or maybe I'm just in denial :P
Spike, I think that's a mighty cool doodle! I love how you made the cloak look a little bit less flat by both shading/highlighting it and also by drawing it with quick, small, angled strokes... It simulates folds and bends in the cloak really well! You also have a great grasp on the male figure! Though the lines might be a little itty bit too thick, they're all in exactly the right spot! The only thing that I would have to criticize is the cross-hatching under the cloak's hood! I think it detracts from the doodle because you sort of mixed two methods of shading. Did you sort of do it on impulse? I do that kind of stuff all the time, which is why I find that digitally redrawing my doodles with the pen tool really helps clean the picture up! I really can't wait to see your next doodles! :)
Nixon, cool doodle! I love all of the textures you put in, it adds so much to the doodle! It's a very dark and forboding piece, I think it's really cool!
Here's my most recent doodle - a NExT greasemonkey gal! I think it came out pretty well :)
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y17...easemonkey.jpg
I was aiming for sort of a cross between a parachute outfit and a motorcyclist jacket, mixed with girly-tomboyish traces and of course a huge elegant influence (she IS NExT of course! they must have a dress code!). I'm not sure if I'll end up coloring this one in, I'll probably just redraw her and finish that one!
I imagine that she spends more time in her workshop than anywhere else and not really into the whole political scene! I think that if I was ever to do an NC-based comic, she would definately be one of the main characters!
I think I've said all that I can possibly say! I'm really looking forward to seeing more people's doodles. The thread's been pretty quiet for the past few weeks, we should do something about that! :)
Another little pic of the girl, very quick sketch, 5 mins tops.
Sorry guys for not responding fer a while as well, Ive watched this page a lot in the last weeks, but had nothing good to post or say. Right now Im going through the finals of this quarter, and Im up to my ears in work (I have to develope a Achitextural piece for my hard surface and organic modeling, a Working playable level in unreal, And a finished (textured and rigged) low poly model based on obscure knight characters of the crusades (Mines an Elite of Persia's Immortals) Oh yeah, that and I have to develope 4 superheroes (at least mine are) based on mathmatic principals. All due in 2 weeks really^^. Ill post some of the stuff later though.
Rosey-Yeah, but Ive always hated escaflone, it bothered me so, as far as human design went (what the japanese have for Androgonous men and women, Ill never understand lol) But the mechs were really cool^^. Ill give em that much. Like the next girl btw
Nix, awsome, he has a really cool attitude around him I think, sorry for not saying more lol.
DJ- quit yer bitchin, Lol, Just work hard and youll get better, thats all Im gonna say, your guys are better than an average highschooler, soo be greatfull
Anywho, Im off, I gotta go finish a compositing video before monday, so Ill be in the lab till about 10pm tonight, later guys.
PEace out
Nixon... that tank RULES. The claws kick all ass. I bet even Wolverine would be envious.
Sunny - pretty cute girl, but I'm simply not getting the "NExT Greasemonkey babe" vibe from her *at all*. Simply too elegant for a workshop, if you catch my drift. What respectable mechanic goes without a wrench, I tell you!
Dribble Joy - well, if you don't like what your drawings are now, why not just go in different directions, try to bust out some moves, like flowers/plants, cars, realistic sketches (use a mirror, watch TV or use the advertising catalogs like Sears' clothing - I find them an excellent source of 'models'.)
Clive - BAH! NO EXCUSES! Get back to work!
I've tried to 'ink' and color the hacker/crazy girl (the one with a vehicle wheel for a skirt) sketch of mine, but it's taking forever and not looking terribly good. No damn skill, I tell you. I think I'll just stick to pencil and paper!
Something i did while trying to practice getting proportion right and a different method of CG colouring, during drawing it i couldnt get the hands feet or face the way i wanted so just left them off
Female Desert Smuggler
And again with an atempt at a mirage effect though i dont think i did it strong enough.
The previous one was on impulse, hence why its sloppy in some places, the problem with the cross-hatching probably came from the pen i used to ink it, but ive figured out how to work the pen tool in photoshop now so things should improve. :p
that's supposed to be female?
Er... tits should not be so... floppy. By Crahn, these tits sag more than an eighty year old Zulu tribeswoman! Ouch. And hips need to be wider. Also, the "baggy fabric" effect you tried doesn't sit right at all.
You want baggy clothes, don't mark up the clothes in regular intervals, make the cloth curve in places.
Thanks for being so "Subtle" HP :p . But he's right in a sense, yes he's, err she is quite "man-ish" and HP's points were all vallid, but what I can suggest, and I know this is sounds like cheating, but, use some references, like say maxim or stuff, or if your from europe, some kinda mag with ladies in't. Copy the form and figuer of the drawings a few times, and youll be getting to were you need to be, art wise (if your persueing this stuff seriously).
Jeez louise Heavy! You should try to be more gentle! You should never forget to remind people of the good things about their work!
I really love the coloring method you did this time Spike! The color palette you've chosen this time works very very well with the background :) I also totally love how you did the hair, the highlights really look great! The shading for the rest of the body is also great, it's subtle, but really adds a lot! The two belts around the torso are totally cool, too :)
Here's a great tutorial that'll help a lot with your anatomy! It starts out with stick figures, and then expands upon it (just like you do now, I think!), but also includes a lot of information about proportioning and posing! I bet you'll love it, if you haven't already seen it! I would also recommend a hardwood mannequin for the same purpose!
I think using references is a totally great way of fully understanding the human anatomy, like Clive said :)
I really like your doodles Spike! I can't wait to see the next idea that you come up with :)
Here's a melee tank (wearing a catsuit, might I add!) that I doodled. She was sensually holding the edge of the sword, but it looked pretty weird so I cropped it out.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y17...03/catsuit.jpg
Definately one of the least elegant outfits I've done, I don't care what anyone else says :P
I'm really looking forward to seeing more doodles! go go go! :)
The sag probably comes from me trying to avoid sodomising my drawings, seems i over did it, i'll look into the hips too :lol:Quote:

Also now i look at it, my drawings seem more impressive on paper in pencil than they do coloured in and inked :p
ok i redrew the desert smuggler again, results seem better this time, certainly next to the old one. Not a bad atempt at the face either :p
Here it is
Did a bit of a chibi style one too (i think its called chibi anyway) but that didnt transfer too well to the computer and its covered in construction lines on the scan in, maybe something to consider for the next peice though
Alrighty, heres that lil "College algebra" poster Ive been working on. I had to develope 4 heroes based on math principles^^. Its not finished yet, I still gotta add all the effects, fine tune the shadows and maybe fix the formation. So yeah here it is.
http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b1...Arthmatans.jpg
(heroes from left to right: Mr.Mutliple, Adder, Subtricia, and D.Vision)
I wish I had more time to work on this though (only 3 days limit :( )
PS-love the melee tank^^ very cute.
Spike, keep on truckin man, do whatever feels best for you, and present that.
Atempt at a BD punk,
Normal Version
Raining Version tryed to make the clothes look wet in this one too, but its not clear.
I managed to get round the problem yet? they're looking female now right?
Aside from the hands and feet i personally cant see anything wrong with it, but we always have a higher opinion of our own work (or at least i do :p )
still a too tad anime-ish for my tastes, but your getting better, Ill give yeh that. I tell yeh, my digital arts skill are still in the crap bin, so when I see anything with a nice splash of digital paint I usually respect it :D
I think I found a book that you should pick up though
Amazon link *you dont have to buy here*
theres also stuff by him for individual sections of the human anatomy such as heads hands and arms to name a few.
PEace out (goes back to his finals)
Thanks man i'll take a look at it.
Currently i'm spending most of my time in college drawing little figures to try and get the hang of that sort of thing, exams in a few weeks too :p
