still find it funny that you somehow equate japan with manga... and even manga has thousands of different styles.
Like I said before, I hate the most common manga style for any serious games (works fine in zelda like games, but not gritty games like neocron), but I love the fact that they are doing something new with influences from japan, I really like the style of the concept art, which has nothing to do with the semi kiddy porn that japanese manga is most infamous for in western countries.
Think shadowrun not anime cmon people this isnt hard!

The question we then ask regarding NC, is how much of it's nature is fantastical and/or '(un)realistic' and therefore to what extent are (the stereotypical) anime/manga influences relevant to it's styling.
I want NC3 to take its influences from Syndicate.... (the original), Bladerunner too (or Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep), possibly even a bit of Fallout and certainly DeusEx. Stir in some Shadowrun and I think you have a winning combination.
NC2 was based on these for the most part I felt. Sure you can argue the cartoony influences on the player models from 2.2 were crap and all of that but I fail to see how you can jump from that to NC3 being totally manga.
Bear in mind historically HOW MUCH DID WE THE COMMUNITY KICK OFF ABOUT THE PLAYER MODELS AT THE TIME. I say this in caps because it was seriously important.
I have read countless threads down the years that wanted the old models back. I myself was a campaigner for this to happen too. I think they (the modellers/artists/designers) would know that that is the case. Noone wants cartoony graphics in nc of ANY kind.
WOW is cartoony, we dont want the same for nc. Remember the NO MORE ELVES campaign? Most of the forum during that time agreed that one of the things people didnt like about that game was the cartoony, among other things.
At the end of the day I genuinely believe that we, the community as it stands; should be consulted in future renditions of NC. I think everyone should have the right to contribute their opinions quite honestly but lets not fly off the handle with it all.

Don't get me wrong; I agree. To answer my own questions I am inclined to say 'Not a lot' and 'Not very'. I just prefer a more in-depth reasoning and understanding of why not (though there are numerous examples that would be relevant).
I do prefer the style of the older models, though they are comically out of date and did need a revamp.
yep, there's noone that wants neocron to be cartoony (whether cartoony american or cartoony japanese/asian). My problem has always been the weird view that anything japanese is supposedly cartoony and cheap. And argueing that nc3 shouldn't be new tokyo because of this assumption only serves to invalidate an otherwise valid point.

I never liked the new models for my 3 older NC1 characters, as the new models never fitted very well with their RP characters. However the monk model is the worse, hence why we have to wear PA's all the time! :p
Neocron has no anime character at all. IMHO the only person bringing that up is daughterolilith with her Japanophobia. This year I'll visit Japan the 5th time, I dunno whether she/he/it have ever been there or at least got out of the States for that matter.
We shouldn't bother about such art-neurosis/chauvinism of certain people. When you take a look at the stuff coming from DC/Marvel or the crap that's shown on TV with Spongebob & Co. there is no doubt about who can't produce quality and details. FACT!
Now back to business again, the game and it's background is about Cyberpunk. We've got several master examples in TV/movie/game-media i.e. Blade Runner, Matrix, Fifth Element, Ghost in the Shell, Armitage III, Deus Ex, System Shock...
What most of these have in common are vast urban megacities, cybernetic connection between man and machine, individuals became just numbers, etc.
For an updated or new Neocron, they can keep the cities - as their style fit - and use an 3D Character creation similar to EVE Online, Fallen Earth, Black Prophecy, etc.
