No Lillith, just people like yourself dont like anime stuff. There are however millions of people across the globe who absolutely fucking love it. plus saying a japanese style is anime/manga is like saying american style is hannah barbara or walt disney (or more accurately, american cartoons in general), it's simply one popular aspect which comes from the japanese region and is very popular accross the world.

Hell, I myself don't like the "standard" manga style games very much. But seeing as this is such a tiny part of japanese cultural aesthetics I really don't see the problem. Even the concept art didn't look in the least bit manga.

Classic Japan has an incredibly beautiful aesthetic style that has nothing to do with anime or manga, and a rich culture far beyond the modern cartoons (which let's face it are mostly just perverted versions of disproportionately endowed uniformed schoolgirls).

There's a LOT more people that prefer real art than people who like the simplistic child-like (It's probably where the term manchild came from in the first place) crap of anime though... If you want to produce a game for china, yes, if UK, EU and US, no... Very few people like it, and most of them are not people with many friends that will get other friends to play. If Neocron 3 is to be real, then you can't just be super niche anymore you have to make an effort to engage people with more balanced lives and social players.

I think most people want gritty realism in their cyberpunk :) ( or surrealism :) ) which is what it's all about in the first place, trying to predict the future than making it a total unbelievable fantasy - otherwise it might as well ba anarchy online with their retarded "nano magic" which seems a fun idea at first til you realise it can basically do anything and makes no sense being there at al, it's just fantasy magic crowbarred into a game (I know, like the APU PPU stuff is kind of like, but I never liked that stuff either really it just seems exactly the same as anarchy online otherwise which is rubbish)

The whole point of cyberpunk is to cover real issues in interesting ways and try to predict the future, stuff like transhumanism and body modification is still controversial even today and we haven't gone anywhere near as we could:

It's supposed to be thousands of years in the future and not just project modern day culture (and as well as not just the horrible parody of itself that anime culture is, but also from the influences of religious fundamentalism in america) on what *should* be at least slightly more culturally progressed humanity :( (and that's another thing, just cos Jack or anyone is assertive doesn't mean one is stupid :p) a lot of bodymod stuff still scares even me (and I've done shoots with blood), but at the same time I respect that in a devil's advocate kind fo way it is all pushing the edges of what is acceptable an what we call human and someone has to be doing that somewhere

- and it's interesting to see how the future would go with that... instead of just the same yr2000 humans with funny shaped guns, I think Neocron could be more sophisticated and intriguing (sanguinus.org / vampirethemasquerade.com does political stuff very good, it's a text-based game though :)):

� It's about making people think, making people question the world and the status quo (hence all the anarchism imagery) - it's about the idea of remaking the world in a better way, somehow :) But of course human nature is it's own worse enemy and that's why we get Neocron/Omikron-like situations - You only have to look at how China is now to see how just how real dystopian futures can be unchecked - it's all got a potential to be real

So things like Ghost in the Shell, Cowboy Bebop, Akira and Battle Angel Alita are inherently worthless by virtue of their origins in manga/anime?

A highly visible yet controversial (and as a result of both thus widely reported) minority is not representative of the whole. Especially when said minority is aimed at a small group of people and is not focussed at or widely viewed by the general population. Let's not also forget that standards are different and are no less valid than our own.

NC is aimed more at gritty realism but that's not to say you can't find that in the aesthetic styles of manga/anime.

Debasing an entire mechanism for expression on the grounds of only part of it's styling is to blindly disregard the entire reason it exists.

lilith, why bother listening to you if you don't even bother reading other people's posts? apparently you don't even know much about cyberpunk either, seeing as a very large part of the (american) cyberpunk novels actually play in or at least relate to tokyo... (at least of the classic cyberpunk novels, haven't read all the newest ones yet).

Dribble: I draw and paint myself now and then as a hobby. My mother's a retired doctor now a full time artist and sells hers. I just cannot stand anime, it's a defacement of what art should be about. I'd take surrealism anytime over a botched attempt at drawing something that just simplifies it into childishness and creepy obsession with underage children.

2: Chiba city isn't Tokyo :P I do know what I'm talking about, CTRL+F "molly" ;) and japan wasn't the focus of neuromancer it was just convenient and more believable at the time since back then it was japan innovating everything before the American companies caught up and now do most of the real innovation, including running most of the Internet (Google and Facebook, which are pretty much classic corporate dystopian monstrosities these days yeah) - and I'm saying that as someone from the UK :p

And she, yes, I know I'm strange, I'd have to be to play here I think :p I don't care, however much you attack me it doesn't stop me being right because it is not good business prospects for a western game to base itself off anime crud :p I hope they stick with a true gritty realistic cyberpunk style that will appeal to a lot more people...

LMFAO, so you are the voice of reason due to the fact your mommy sells her art? have a look at animes like Tokyo Magnitude 8.0, Viper's Creed, Ghost in Shell movie + series, Jin-Roh: the Wolf Brigade (i could give you a full list of anime though) and tell where is the childishness and "a botched attempt at drawing something that just simplifies it" as you say so convinced. I do prefer Japanese drawings over American drawing... Superman and most comics are childish in my opinion, though Batman is the best, specially the Dark Night story line.

"western game to base itself off anime crud" WOW, just wow! so you are saying that NC is based from an "Anime"? hmmmm, right. Cyberpunk genre was really, really made popular thanks to the animes Ghost in the Shell (GitS), Akira and etc. In the case of GitS it sold more copies than "Blade Runner" in the 80s. Tell me what comics or animated series that are cyberpunk. oh please don't say transformers 'coz it isn't.

I have to agree that I prefer the uniform style of anime over the current state of American cartoons. (Although, Young Justice is great, visually and storywise!)
