Morpheus, I perhaps didn't word my post correctly.
I wasn't implying that people may have disliked Neocron due to the name, I was implying that many people may associate 'Neocron' with a crap game, with no support.
Obviously I love the game; I've been here from the beginning. What I will say is though, I have a couple of friends that I met in the past couple of years, who both tried NC a few years back, and for whatever reason, didn't give it the chance it deserves. This resulted in both of them associating Neocron with 'shit'. Neither tried NC2 (probably for the best), and I just have a feeling that if Neocron 3 surfaces, they're going to judge it before it surfaces.
Think about this carefully, KK. The name means the world to us, but to the potential masses out there, I'd seriously recommend that you consider a re-brand, or a fresh start. It can be a game packed full of the original NC features, and totally resemble the gameplay we all know and love, but the name doesn't have to be 'Neocron'.
So, the name should be: "forget the old neocron - this is the new neocron!!!"

Sure the epics encouraged people to faction hop and even the rumoured title (neocron paladin anyone :P) did so. all great ideas but what i would really love to see in the next edition is more depth to the factions themselves. More quests/missions from the get go for the faction to more closely align people to them.
Everyone has a reason for choosing a particular faction in the beginning. Mine originally was TT and it was because we (me and my bro) both chose them because they were the ones with the guns. simple.
After a long time playing we hopped around a fair few times spending time in clans in various factions. Black Dragon was always the one we settled on though. time and time again. I love that faction and the ideas behind it so much. always did. even when it was a dead faction in early nc1 before the bandwagon drove past and everyone jumped on. (Sir Calvin stormlord was a long time advocate to populate BD in nc1 uranus but no one ever could be arsed till Mafia formed over there. Tino biggin and bart, i loved u guys :P too bad u dont read the forums)
What im trying to say in the future is take a good long look at what happens to the new runners in each faction by way of an optional introductory quest to the faction and keep that going as much as possible. Offer faction specific bonuses to each one to promote them to runners also.
In my mind the way the divisions were is you had CA (the government, should have something to reflect allegiance to them. tax breaks? :P) then the corporations (Tangent, Biotech, Protopharm, DRE) the gangs (Tsunami,BD) the obligatory 21st century Cult (crahn) the opposite of religion is science (FA) and then the revolutionary Fighters opposed to the government (TG)
All of these could confer extra bonuses for faction membership somewhere. i would prefer them to be cosmetic as opposed to hugely imbalancing in the game but ideas such as reduced drugflash/drug costs/improved effects (10%?) for ProtoPharm to guarenteed 1 slot always (Tangent) on constructed weapons would be pretty smooth. 2 ideas off the top of my head. obviously some would require a great deal of thought and my tiny brain hasnt gotten down that road but its a germ of an idea. Push the allegiance to factions more.
Blizzard did it with guild levels in WoW but to be quite frank i think that idea is so out of whack. they basically killed the ability for small guilds to get started because everyone flocks to the huge ones with all the trimmings from the get go. they should have set barriers of entry to gaining those bonuses to balance out the choice between joining and levelling a new guild and joining an existing one but im not here to discuss that. just citing the example.
DOY. a great idea. huge piece of content that essentially came off wrong and was vastly underused for its size.
Brainwave idea. DING! on comes the lightbulb. keep the factions in one city. if your gonna run with the whole neocron city still being there thing then use the dome as a HUGE npc force totally non playable but the omnipresent enemy force in the background. CA is waging a war against the dome while trying to maintain order on the streets of nc or what ever. set content and dungeons in the dome make it worth visiting. levelling zones. Dare i use the word but raids in the dome to retrieve items from there for missions to be done in 2s or 3s or 5s even 10 man groups. Include it and keep it with the story so theres always a bigger scale to fight on.
Another idea would be PVE events at ops. Massive Doy attack on a clans op so they can take it. the clan has to defend it. Pushes an onus on having alliances because the clan may have only 20 fighters and of those 20 ten online but when the force coming at the OP is 100 strong NPC mob you better call for back up. also there will be no flamewars on trade afterwards and more people get involved. Mix the levels too so its not restricted to max level even instance the operations so chars in a certain level range say 30-40 for example have to defend the underground from a doy incursion while the main battle is upstairs. (stops people hiding in the UG to rebuff) ;)
Ok almost done. The name. something to do with revamped or reborn. if your gonna do the neocron thing then it has to show thats been redone. Im sure the first screenshots you release will grab more than enough attention given the walking in space shots for bp but the name has to do it too.
Neocron:Revolution would be my personal idea. Revisited revamped and revolutionised. Hell you could even flip things upside down and put ronald rodriguez in the city and in power and have the City Admin forces like the resistance from terminator. that would be funny. CA would become cool to play. Maybe have a few copbots still in the storyline as old relics to show passage of time.
Anyway. i could ramble on for ever today. i think i had too much sleep or something.

Whilst I’m not going to type even half as much as you have, I did have an idea as to how the original Neocron City could be kept in game.
I don’t know the lore/story behind everyone evactuating to a new world, and I SORT OF like the idea of a new city to explore. However, imagine how much the players of old would love to have a look around an original, yet hugely revamped Neocron City.
What I would like to see, is the new world being implemented – a new city, a new wastelands, new ops, etc... but why not include a total reconstruction of Neocron City? Changes can be slight but definite, and can be easily explained by the reconstruction of the city on another world.
As for factions, I loved the original setup. I loved it when FA were based at TH, and enemies would struggle to get in there. I loved the fact that TG had the canyon, and pretty much killed any non-TGs that paid them a visit. I LOVED the fact that almost everyone (except TG) could go to the MB, but it was always the home of CM.... and finally, I loved the fact that all city clans were located in the one place.
I think I’d like to see TG/FA have their own sections of the NEW city, to maybe make them the only factions based there. Everyone else would be based in their original place in the reconstruction of Neocron city, with the exception of the CM. I’d like to see a newly designed Military Base, but this time with access totally restricted to CM (except maybe the entrance area). This would make the CM a more playable faction, neutral and hidden away in a self-sustaining location with every type of vendor available.
I’m going to stop now before I ramble too much. The thought of NC3 makes me, and several other people giddy. Please, please make it, KK.

Aye definitely need to keep the factions that was one of the things I loved mosted, need to try find some way of making them more balanced though with members. I don't think I can remember a single NEXT guild that was big.. or even seeing a NEXT player that often... CA was the same for a while and CM wasn't to big either apart from good old brtf.
I would LOVE to see some more story missions and things though, perhaps even pvp ones which involve killing your factions main enemy and returning dog tags. Oh and while it was a nice idea to split up the enemies in 2 cities... DONT DO IT AGAIN!! I loved knowing I could run into a enemy around every corner, it just ruined most of the fun. And ofc DOY was a junk city nobody wanted to live in....
Oh just remembered something else we really need! a continuation of the amasing stories!! yet to find a game with such epic stories as neocron had, months of spiders all over as they slowly work it out then WHAM! they find the spider queen!. Lion rezas supposed death and the escape of the journalist, so fun

I think me and Tratos was talking ages ago on TS, about what Neocron 3 could be, and I think we both thought it would be cool to go back to the Ceres wars in the Neocron timeline for a prequel!
