Please please PLEASE tell me the Zones will be done away with with NC:R . No self respecting mmo these days has it. Granted, when NC was first being developed, it was far ahead of the game, but now even the crappiest mmos have seemless worlds.
Not to mention the last time I played (about what... 6 years ago?) zone hopping ruined pvp, such as in outposts and especially pp3.

I think for an mass battle oriented game as Neocron, zoneless streaming would be a hard task for the servers. However, it might be not much of a problem combining several zones together (like all Plaza districts)
Seemless zones is what i was referring to. Synchronizing screen has to go.
agreed with plight. if they can run faster than you can shoot them then they live. if not. they better fight back and not keep synching back and forth making you chase them hoping you fatal before they do. :D
I think KK just needs to worry about fixing existing problems before they get too far into adding features. My PE still has a penis lip, I still FRE once in a while, the balancing needs gone through, etc.
Eve Online is also a space MMO, so that's pretty much an apples and oranges comparison.Quote:

Agreed. If we had Wow's zones and NC pvp the world would be a much grittier place. It would change the pvp dynamic, in that half the people in the game wouldnt bother to pvp any more if they couldnt hug a zoneline but it would make it more fun for the rest of us.Quote:

But another point that has not been mentioned yet but seems to be very important to me is this: Serverlayout.
I'd prefer a single server with multiple charslots supporting at least english and german maybe also french again. Multiserver layouts should never be done from the get go and in my opinion never be done for language reasons (that point is a lot easier solved by offering language specific subchatrooms for those that dislike reading other languages). Additional servers should be offered as they're needed.

The other factor is latency. Yes, I know our North American friends sucked it up for years - but that doesn't make it a desired feature.
All that said, I agree on a single server being the way to go unless there are hordes of players arround. Also, we should be careful not to make up to many plans for something that is still very much a hypothetical situation - first, let's see if and how NC:R can get developed at all. Maybe Kirk will find time to give us another status update on things once the dust has settled in Hannover.
True. I also agree that for RP you realy need to speak the language quite well for it to be enjoyable. Still I stick to my opinion that this should rather be resolved by language specific chats than seperate servers. Of course I also agree that we should have at least two servers (forgot about location being a reason for seperate servers aswell) one for the EU region and one for north america.
It's hard not to make up plans. I'm pretty exited about it all. Still I think giving constructive input can't be given too early. It's much easier to incorporate our thoughts at planing stage than to fix them in after most of the development is done.
I actually had an idea on the localisation issue based on the way Global agenda solved it. They have one main non-pvp area which is hosted in america (since ping doesn't matter in those areas, while the pvp areas are divided among the different areas.
now think of every zone in neocron as hosted on a specific server (can be virtual of course).
They GA went as far as only opening certain zones depending on the time in that area, though I think that wouldn't be very good for neocron, but basing location of the host of a certain zone, on the location of the majority of players could be cool.
Or it could even be that when a clan takes ownership of an op or area of the map, they get to choose what country it's hosted in :p
Of course this would all need to be thought out better, but I like having the whole world on the same gameworld, but when a european choses to go raid an american owned op, that they have the disadvantage of ping lag, while americans have trouble raiding european owned zones. Of course there should always be enough overlap between the different zones.
just a though, not even sure how it would be implemented, or if it wouldn't lead to much too nationalized clans etc, but worth thinking about.
Weeeeell... you could give the home-party artificial lag.. i think this is what happens on BFBC2 or so...Been playing in germany on servers hosted in germany with ping above 100 but together with guys from all over europe... (Usually my ping would be ~40)Quote:
