Greetings, from what I've read I've gathered that if I wanted to pin a mission statement behind this project it would be this:

"To recreate the world of neocron in the Source engine, and have these worlds be on par with the environment of the original, with technological improvements in place."

correct?

I've looked through the pictures and to put those words to picture I think this is the best representation, also... I took a picture of the area being recreated to compare them side to side to show how this is the best representation:

I mean... its pretty much the original area, although improved in all the right places. That's a proper conversion.

by comparing the two screen-shots there is somehow a big difference betwen the size of the corridor. But in general i guess you did a very good job, the lighting is great. Small question could you try to make a similar texture of the ground? the ground texture of your NC subway is reflecting too much light.

he's not the one that made the subway, the subway was posted quite a few pages ago by rambus, but yes the floor should probably be redone with a new texture (I think those are default hl2 textures)

and the goal is not to recreate the original game, but to recreate the atmosphere

Wow... lots of debate about this and that... I guess people are pretty interested in our work, for one reason or another.

The way I see it, we are re-creating the atmosphere of NC with updated technology. My Plaza 1 map isn't exactly to scale, but I think it is a good representation of Plaza 1. No one who runs around in it will mistake it for anything else except Plaza 1. I think as the project evolves, people will appreciate the differences and come to appreciate the updates to the Neocron architecture. And, if I may interject a technical aspect here: A LOT of NC is not what I would call a "realistic" scale. In fact, in the small amount of Plaza 1 that I have "finished" I have retooled several aspects that looked forgotten about or just plain silly. Floors not joining, ceilings that jut out into the air for no reason... And when you fix some of these things, it throws the scale of nearby objects off, so you have to fix them. It's time consuming, but it makes for a better product, I think anyway. Plus, in deathmatch, the idea is to have environments that are easy to traverse and not get hung on a random poly that sticks out from the handrail.... but IT WAS IN THE ORIGINAL NC OMGZ!!!! Lol. And FOV (field of vision/view - how your character sees the world) in Source is a bit different from NC, so the scale and height of objects and structures aren't going to match exactly to NC unless we change the FOV values in the code... which would throw everything off as far as the working of the engine itself.

Anyhow, now that my life issues are fairly sorted (my wife of 3 years decided she didn't love me) and I'm moved in to my new location with the internet yet again!!! I'm going to begin rolling on my little piece of the puzzle once more. I apologize for my abscence.

I'm not modeling the subway after the current map- but rather the original neocron 1 offline demo version, so you may see some geometric differences with the nc2 version.

for those looking for a cheap orange box game, Portal is now on sale for 3,74�, I'm not 100% sure it will run multiplayer games but it should, plus Portal is a INCREDIBLE game that every self respecting gamer should own anyway, certainly for that amount of money, I'm prolly gonna gift a bunch of people the game for that price ;),

note, it is only a 1 day offer, after it will go back to the normal 15 euros.

I sent a message to the mailing list about recompiling props (or providing props source) and have not received a reply back from anyone yet. I simply need the source files or the props recompiled for non orange box for use in HL2 deathmatch so I can release my *finished* map :)

I received the e-mail. The cool thing about Source is that you can create a new mod with any gameid. Meaning this: The movies I recorded look like HL2: DM, but in fact it is an Orange Box engine running the HL2: DM gameid. So, what needs to be done in the near future is me getting off my lazy ass and writing a tutorial for the developers on how to setup the NC: Source mod in the steam interface so that you can actually use the NC: S game in the dropdown menu for Hammer. Then, when you edit maps for NC: Source, they will be Orange Box compatible. And we can release the total package with your map, even if we haven't edited any gameplay yet.

I'm @ work or I would write the instructions for creating the mod right now. I'll be home tomorrow though.

Hey Whitestuff, I was specifically looking to release my initial map in the HL2:DM format (for feedback) so that I would have access to a wider range of game play testers. That is, at this point I would prefer not to have to ask people to download a large mod file.

Ideas?

Does this include all of the props? Or are some made by other users?

EDIT: Says I need an idle.smd file to finish compiling the models- I don't know much about compiling but I assume this is a dummy file of sorts. Could you load it up? In the mean time I'll try to see if there is a work around :)

EDIT EDIT:

I found a work around, just using the body studio value instead of idle.smd:
$sequence idle "plant" fps 1 (All works now)

Let me know if there is a reason for idle.smd in the qc files, if not I will commit my changes.

The subway HL2:DM map portion is done :)

A few minor tweaks (including scale).

EDIT: If everyone wants we can set a date/time for a larger playtest :)?
