Heh.. Didn't notice they've been full for a looong time :)
Started working on the tank image, here's a little something from the process.

(will make some type of tutorial on it also)
I think I hate you...
aww!
hate is bad :(
Can I presume you are a proffessional artist?
Otherwise I will have to slit my wrists.
I'm crying here, nixon.
Even in my private sketches, of which I am *very* reluctant to show people, I can't even come one-tenth of the way you can draw power-armors.
Well, there was the spy in PA one I did a while ago, but even that wasn't as cool as your spy one.
Please tell me you're a pro artist or something.
Hi :)
This isn't a competition you guys! Comparing yourself to others so agressively won't do anything but make you feel worse about yourselves!
I think what you guys should do instead, is think about what you like about each picture that someone posts (including your own!). How did the artist accomplish what you find attractive; was it through clever use of shading, the attention to detail, the general idea, or something else? Use the things that you liked in other pictures as a guide to improve your own doodles. If you keep adding, expanding, and highlighting things you like to your pictures and make a habit out of it - you'll be that much more fond of your work when it's done!
Besides, you're like the four or five people who constantly post their doodles in this thread - that makes you all winners in my book!
DJ - I would have to agree with the others about your doodles's muscular structure looking pretty overly-defined and masculine! I think this might be because you're drawing lines where her muscles are. The contrast from the white of the paper instantly to the darkness of the pencilmark is enough to make anything stand out! I don't really think those muscle-lines are necessary, from my limited knowledge of the triathlete figure from google's image search! I bet if you tried lightly shading your doodles, instead of drawing the muscle lines, you would get the fit and tough body type that you're aiming for, while at the same time adding depth and elegance to your pictures!
Clive - That's amazing for the first time with a drawing tablet! I had such a difficult time drawing in one area while seeing the picture somewhere else on my first time, it took so long just to get over that! I love the shading and the unique pose and angle. I can't wait to see more of your adventures with the tablet!
Nixon - Wow, you're mighty talented! I would love to see a tutorial, I'm sure it would help all of us so much! Your pictures (so far) are really dark and dreary, so expressive and in with NC's themes, but also so depressing! arrhrghgh!
Here's my doodle, a black dragon psi monk!
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y17...lackdragon.jpg
I don't really like the face, the hair, or what she's doing with the healy psi spell, but I think everything else came out very nicely! I like the qipao that she's wearing, and the multi-layered dress coupled with the non-symmetrical style of clothing really makes her seem very gypsy-like, which is what I was aiming for! I definately think I'll color this one in and slap a background on it (the first time for what, months?), I think it'll look really awesome!
Looking forward to seeing other doodles!
Here it is now, my lil' tanky tank mr. Nixon himself.. taking a little smokebreak after beating warbot into pile of buzzing garbage.

Dribble i just opened this image-edit program thing that been on desktop and i tested it a bit and then it just.. well.. yeah! ;)
(dont slit wrists please you might get SiL over-excited!)
I don't like shading, it's really to hard to get right with scanned pencil drawings.Quote:

Nixon, your colored tank picture is superb. I've set it as my desktop.
I really, REALLY like how, in the background, you've suggested landscape features without going into great detail. Simply beautiful. The way you've shaded the ground, giving it a lot of depth, is wonderful too. I really get a 3d feel and a desert-like climate.
Finished the drawings, but they didnt really come out great, cannon's outline was fine (though it came out a bit cartoonish :( ) but the two tanks have proportion issues, especially with the heads.
Need more practice it seems lol, not my best work but, here they are anyway :p
The "tutorial" is now posted to Community Talk section.
Hhehe, TO what Rosey had said earlier about this not being a competition and it shouldnt be, shes absolutly right.
As for myself though in my 20 years of existance, almost every activity that Ive performed in (such as sports or arts) has been in done through jelousy (I know, its sad) Mostly because I see myself as not being usefull. I push myself to be better, sorta like Im maximizing my chances for survival I guess if you wanna think primal about it. When I see work like Nixons, I cant really help but admire and want to do better, and then I set my standards higher lol.
Ahh well, to hell with hapiness, Embrace embrace life long perpetiual study :D
PS, more works are a comin,
PEace out
Firstly guys and gals i want to say well done all your pictures including the stickmen drawings are great.
I spotted this thread last weekend while at work and spent all last weekend and most of today not doing any work at all but reading every single post and with 520+ posts thats a lot of reading.
I am realy impressed with all the talent out there and insanely jealous as i cant draw anything at all.
But you have started something in me, something has stired deep inside my soul and i have just been out and bought a doodle pad and set of pencils so that while im working away (which is most of the week every week) i can start to learn and hopefully get better.
A big massive thankyou has got to go out to sunny for starting this thread it has been the best, most informative and at times funniest thread i have ever read on this forum. so THANKYOU.
well if all goes well i hope to be able to post a drawing myself soon but dont be suprised if it takes a couple of years for me to learn how to get the lead to come out the end of the pencil :D
Once again well done all.
Nellus
Hi :)
DJ - you definately should try inking one of your doodles, I bet it would look really nice! If you're not up to the task (though you really should give it a shot at least once, if you haven't already!) I'd be more than happy to try it and see how it looks :)
Spike, you have a really well fortified style. I love how you started off by drawing stick figures, and then expanded and added detail with the PA. That's a totally awesome skill to have, because it really helps you visualize what you're drawing before it's down on paper! I'm also in love with how much detail you put into the pictures - you can see all of the wires, buttons, and those little grate and vent things! Your cannon is also really cool, it is slightly cartoonish but it's so charming and captivating :)
Clive! You're true to yourself, what an admirable quality! Jealousy can be a motivation to do stuff, but it's so easy to let it get the best of you! As long as you're using jealousy and competition as a method to learn and grow as opposed to humilitating your opponent and getting angry, it can be a great thing! :)
Uh oh nellus, it looks like your creativity juices are flowing! I can't wait to see what you've got bubbling in your brain :) Thanks for your kind words! It's so nice of you to say and it really really means a lot to me! I totally can't wait to see your ideas!!
First up I have a colored-in version of my previous doodle. I'm not too sure if I like it!
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y17...ragoncolor.jpg
I focused on creating textures and fabrics this time, as opposed to just adding color. Of course I really really should have started that idea with a little bit less fabric-intensive outfit, this one took forever to do! I'll try the same methods on another doodle and then decide whether or not to keep doing it.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y17...lindfolded.jpg
Here's a quickie generic psi monk with a more flash-suitable shading style (which I don't like)! I really love the whole idea of psi monks being mysterious, much more than I like the idea of them being shamanistic. It's just a shame that it's so hard to convey mystery and intruige through an outfit (please please prove me wrong! :)), other than through the use of blindfolds , bandit scarves, hoods, and masks. High, baggy collars, too, maybe!
And even then - since the world of neocron is dark, dangerous and dreary - psi monks should not be the only ones who can look mysterious and aloof!
Can't wait to see some more doodles!
Here's a coloured image I did years ago, as you can see, not great.
//edit
In fact looking at it now... my god that's appaling...
Ha ha ha! I remember that one. Oh, man... that's an OLD picture.
Ok, the pretty boy picture is finished, as are a few others, but this time Im gonna try a little photoshop on em this time. expect something by tuesday-wensday.
For those who dont know Clive's usual shedule, thats the tuesday/wednesday of three weeks from now :D :p j/k
But clive still creates content faster than KK!
Haw haw haw!
Yeah Clive hurry up with the goods or else we start the Nixon fan club....
I'm realy getting back into my photoshopping, now i have some spare time. I'll post when I can.
Truth be told, NC isnt my only "other" project right now. Im also working on a webcomic this month (I hope to have the first strips up) Though its not based on NC itself, and its an original comic, I WILL have NC "filler days" or Dead Clive dayz, to quote megatokyo.
Im really impressed with the work nix is working on, as well as everyone elses work. Also, to why im not submitting anything now is because Im trying my best at this moment to build a Unreal map for my class tommorrow morning (the theme is a "ol' western town") and I need to get some basics outa the way.
(edit)-Honestly Im not sure about releasing the name of the comic just now, since the topic is a little ehh, and Im crappy at explaining ideas without sounding like an idiot or wierd, But anyways, my stuff will be hosted at Greaterevil.com, The comics name is "Anthro hell", Ill let you guys guess at it till I feel like explaining. Check out greater evil as well, I go to school (and party with) the guys and girls working the site and comic Always tommorrow, to bad KK updates more than they do :D
I wouldn't link my webcomic, because it's shit. I can't anyway, bastards don't seem tor espond to my mails about reactivating my domain name.
It's currently about me and my mates (though it all gets very wierd later on), but will continue for a few years. Then I ma makign an NC comic called Exiles.
I like it actually, the shadows are done very nicely and the judge fire is pretty good too.Quote:

http://img118.imageshack.us/img118/9...knoblur4rc.jpg
not sure which is better. Still need to get the hang on of colouring things, not to mention inking :p
You need some more cross-line shading on the face I think, other then that its nicely done.
