Okay;

System specs;
Win 98se.
AMD Athlon 1 Ghz processor.
GeForce2 MX 400/800 .
256 MB SDRAM.
K7T Turbo2 Mother board.
Sound Blaster Live! Value.
Old unbranded (and now barely functional, not even defraggable) hard disc drive; 20GB Capacity.
512kbit cable.

Neocron played totally stable, only problem was fairly low FPS.
Average crashes; Once a month if avoiding citycom money.

System specs;
Win 98se -- Later WinXP.
AMD Athlon 2400 XP.
GeForce2 MX 400/800 -- Later, GF 5200 FX.
256 SD RAM -- Later, 512 PCI 2100 DDR RAM.
Syntax Motherboard; SV400, KT400 Chipset.
Sound Blaster Live! Value.
Can't remember the HDD Specs (both maxtor one at 120GB the other at 60 GB).
512 kbit cable.

On the earlier of this setup crashing was extremely, extremely rare, same as before, crashes maybe once a month.
On the later of this setup crashing was slightly more regular, maybe once a week, upping to once a day on the installation of WinXP ¬.¬

System Specs;
WinXP.
AMD Athlon 3000+ XP.
ATI Radeon 9600 PRO.
512 PCI 2100 DDR RAM (hehe...PSI 3200 1024 DDR RAM next month XD).
K7T Triton GA7N-400-L Motherboard (NForce2 Chipset).
Sound Blaster Live! Value. (Gotta get a ZS Audigy soon).
Same Maxtor HDDs.
512kbit cable.

Defragged and scan disced after first attempt at playing, heh, no difference.

Crash frequency - Every other wasteland zoneline, occasionally every few hours without zoning.

It's also fun to note that, through out all the changes, my FPS has increased (on the same detail settings and world conditions), all of 10 FPS (from 10 on the original system, to 20).
Though admittedly 20 FPS means it's not all that jerky anymore, it does mean I have noticible slow down if anything comes on screen that forces the FPS down).

This isn't really a compliant, just more sorta "topic for discussion/comparison" and stuff...

I have winXP, and I barelt crash. I found that having MSN messenger on in the background increased my chance of crashing. With that thing off I can go a week without a crash :)

Personally, I think Neocron just hates people with high-end computers.

As an example, I'm currently running a Pentium III with 500 MHz, 256 MB plain old-fashioned whatever it's called RAM, GeForce 4 Ti 5200 (So okay, that's pretty new...), Creative SoundBlaster Live! and a Maxtor 50 GB hard drive.

All components except the GeForce are at least 4 years old. Neocron runs perfectly, "despite" running on XP. The only thing which crashes me sometimes is the CityCom. ;)

Personally, I'd guess you need to tweak XP some and disable some of it's resource hogging features; I get the same FPS as you get on your newest computer.

My old system was exactly like that, exept I had 512 RAM and I was running
win2k... barely ever ever crashed...

My new system (old as fuck now, but whatever) AMD 1800 XP+ with 1024
RAM and Radeon 9600 gfx card and still running win2k... Sucks balls, crash
all the damn time and have, if not the same, then worse FPS (overall)
compared to my old comp.

celeron 1.8 here, radeon 8500 128mb, 512 ddr, 40 gb hdd 7200, win xp (patched and updated)

before setting nc client priority to high i was crashing like every two minutes, every single time i zoned (well with 90% efficiency), same with citycom, same with genrep - basically i've spend more my playing time on restarting the client than on actually playing the game

after setting nc client priority to high it improved quite much. None of hundreds of various system/hardware combination i've tried before never really worked, but this single trick managed to remove my crashes pretty well.

Now i crash "rarely" - once in 10-15 minutes, often when zonning carelessly. But it's at least playable now.

Ah, one more thing - i've tried once conect via my 56 kb modem just for fun, and i've played for an half an hour without crashing once... Never tried it again though, so hard to say if this was the luck only. But i'm betting most of those crashes are net related issues...

a perfect cobination of hardware for NC have a lot in common with MAKING Slots on a gun.
i run it on several machines like 600Mhz laptop with 4 MBS3GFX on 2K and XP

memory from 256 - 1G

1.8 Athlon, 2.5 Athlon, Athlon 3k64, with GF3,4,5 and i crash pretty much random, sometims 3 times an hour, sometimes 1 or less an evening.

XP +2200 @ 1890-1900MHz
Gigabyte ZX
512 SDRAM 133PC
GeForce 4 4400
Audigy 2
Maxtor 80GB

WinXP

Most noticeable change was when I cleaned up the comp, format and all that.
Defrag it once in a while. Not much crashes, 1 in a day prolly. Before it would crash few times in an hour.

Now I use windowed mode (=double fps) and even less crashes..

But I don't even play that much anymore...

i found that decent cooling for the processor also reduces my fre rate, i crash maybe once a week, i got winXP as well.

my comp aint the newest out there, but it still goes in the "high end" i would imagine.

I crash maybe 1 or 2 times a month.

EDIT :

Windows XP Professional
Pentium 4 Northwood 2.4 Ghz (cooled with a cpu fan designed for a 3.4 ghz)
2x 512 mb ddr-ram pc 3200 (exactly same type, cant remember brand)
GeForce FX 5200 -128 mb ddr ram - pc 2700
bus speed 533 mhz
512/128 adsl

fps varies from 10 - 250 (10 being overpopulated plaza 2, and 250 being watching a wall)

System Specs:

Windows XP Home Edition
Intel Celeron 2.4 GhZ
786MB DDR RAM
ATI Readeon 9200XT
240GB HD

Running: 800x600 (I can target drones!)
Running: With all my other applications closed.

I crash like, every 30 minutes. At very, very bad moments.

Dell Dimension 8200
Win XP SP2
1.9Ghz P4
512 MB RD RAM
40 GB HDD
GF 3 ti200 64MB (Overclocked quite a lot)
512/256 ADSL
Dunno wtf make my HDD is or what my Mobo is.

Average 30-40 fps (that's at 1600x1200x32, yes im insane), crashed once a day at beginning of retail (when i started playing) slowly decreasing to once/twice a month when i quit about 8 months ago. My fps was freakishly high for my system specs considering the resolution i ran at, i figured after a while that it was the overclocking of the graphics card that almost doubled my FPS o_O

I'm running on a

Intel Pentium 3ghz Northwood
512 RAM
MSI FX5700
Windows XP pro

Get somewhere between 30-76 FPS.
I never crash but i get FREs more frequently now. I used to have a AMD XP 1600+ with MSI GF4200ti, and that one ran NC a lot more stable. But on the other hand, it ran new games worse

I think most people count a FRE as a game crash.

My comp has crashed (locked up) about once since I last format/reinstalled.

I FRE usually when there is a lot of stress on my comp.
Tbh, I think that NC's execsive loading of the CPU has a lot to do with a lot of FREs, with the move to more GFX loading in DoY we should hopefully see less of them.

Odd, I haven't crashed for weeks, and the only FRE's I get are when I log out sometimes. Which actuallly helps as I can get to my desktop quicker :p
