Well ??

What is the deal.. something that just flew through my head last night..

Odin = God of War - Norse Mythology
Nidhogg = Giant Dragon - Norse Mythology
Mercuri = Some greek god - Greek Mythology
Apollo = Greek god - Greek Mythology
Freya = Goddess of beauty and fertility (not sure about that) - Norse Mythology
Snotra = Goddess - Norse Mythology
Gotterdammerung = somethin - Norse Mythology

and I´m sure there´s more..

I mean, it´s cool and all, but why does everyone have Mythological names ?

is it a pre-requisite to be a GM or a MOD ?

dont forget
MJS - CEO - German Mythology :D

Maybe they just agreed to have mythology names, i know we named our tanks
after some viking mythology while i was in the army... So we would all have
something similar about our tankies..

I'm pretty certain they get those names assigned to them after they become moderators/GMs, mostly to retain their anonimity so their private characters don't get spammed to death with "OMG, CN U SPWN KAMIS FR ME!1!!!1!!" requests. ;)

From what I've noticed, moderator names are based on Norse Mythology, and GM names based on Greek Mythology. Some exceptions do occur, but that's mostly because they've either been around for so long that naming system did not exist yet, or because they started off as a moderator and then also become a GM (Nid's a prime example of this).

It was either that or name them after animals from NC, and Forsetti refused to be called "Drom"

p.s. gimme + rep <3

lucky gits..

our tanks were named after historical captains that once led our artillery platoon into war..

whilst the other artilley platoon had names like "Brutality" "Titan" and stuff like that..

but yea I guess they agreed to have it, but still..

A nick is your own "SELF"-image being reflected by your character onto the virtual world..

It has to be as independent as it can be.

Forcing peeps to chose a name within certain limits is like forcing them to take on a personality reflection that just doesn´t fit..

not meant as an offense against anyone..

just something in general..

All mods have to choose a name from Norse mythology when they take up their position. GMs are free to choose whatever they wish but it needs to be fairly short and catchy.

but still, wouldn´t you feel more comfortable with a name you´ve chosen yourself, rather than one forced on you, with certain limits on it ?

surely there are nicks you would rather have.

EDIT :

rather have than have one that has already been used.

The whole copy-catting concept I mean..

Could you imagine me called anything else? ;) A name is just a name and you eventually become inseparable regardless of what you chose initially; I chose mine because it was the most awkward to spell.

NI've always thought Götterdammerung was more awkward, to be honest...

Interesting to know more about it though I'd expected GM names to follow the Greek model nased on some of the GM names I've seen (Mostly referring to Apollo, Mercuri and Bellerophon here).
