Is there Much/any difference between the 9800 pro and 9800XT except for a £150 difference in price?

Depends what sort of games your playing and how much they hammer your gfx card, the 9800xt is 256mb DDR and the 9800pro is 128mb DDR...You can get a 256mb DDR 9800pro but the memory is worse quality. I'd get a 9800pro because i know how much you want to spend :p

if you have the money get the XT, it is better...but if you really dont got the money and still want a good card just get the 9800pro...

the XT would be better for newer games like planetside etc, and also games coming out like half life 2 and doom 3...

but like i said if you dont got the money...then maybe the pro is good enough :D

9800XT is better then the Pro but I wouldnt pay the extra, get a pro and u'll have one of the top 3 cards on the market that will last you a year or so.

Ouch, what PC did u run the tests on?

The one with the 9800pro seems kinda low.

P4 3ghz HT, 800mhz fsb, 512mb TWINX ram (at that time), 10k rpm HDD's.

Did multiple runs.. these are the avarages.

Both are ASUS cards.

ouch what?

I think they have the same gpu and have just different clock rates on ram and gpu. the xt has a build in automatic overclocking feature.

I guess I would not spend the extra money right now.. 9800pro are getting cheaper this days and next generation will come for sure.

Dont confuse 3dmark03 with 3dmark01 5700 is a very good score.

They are, but the 9800pro also has cheaper memory afaik so you cant make an XT for £200 instead of its normal £300.

Next-gen cards are due out in one month.

indeed.... 3dmark01se score with 9800pro (256mb): ~17000 ;)

Anyway... if you got the money go for the XT - it's smokes everything.
the PRO is more bang for your buck though.

Or wait a few months for the next-gen cards... But with PCI-express you'll need a new mobo too...

As *always* with new pc's/components... there's going to be something bigger and better available next month (except when ya got the XT a few months back, like I did :D). So it's your choice... what's most important?

Well, it seems then that either my PC is giving top notch performance or urs aint performing very well.

1.7 Celeron @ 1.9 mhz (fsb @ 112 mhz), with 512 MB DDR (kingston i think), a 7.2k 20 gig Hdd and an Ati Radeon 9800 SE softmoded so that the extra 4 pipelines are enabled.

Score averages at about 5500
