View Full Version : 1337 Dictionary
Is there one of these? I mean like real gaming 1337.
I'm dying to know what afaik means.
If there isnt a 1337 Dictionary can someone post a dictionary here? I think it will be a great help to new players and then KK can sticky it as the Official NC 1337 Dictionary.
Kthx.
Edit: Oh right, do Germans/French have their own versions of 1337? Like a German lol and rofl and lmao? Or a French fu and n00b and IMO?

As far as I know, AFAIK is an acronym for something... but keep in mind, that's just As FFar AAs II KKnow.
*grins*
Okay, that aside, you can't have a 1337 dictionary because it's not a real language. It's more a secret code or professional terminology, really... but if you're looking for a Hacker's Dictionary...
http://info.astrian.net/jargon/
but a better reference would be the Jargon File
http://www.eps.mcgill.ca/jargon/jargon.html
Just remember, it's like any specialized vocabulary... Knowing the terminology may not mean you can perform surgery, but you'll be sure to impress your friends by knowing what a Tensorfascia Miocardial Infarction is during the next 'ER' marathon...

Considering it was written in 1949, It has some amazing forward thinking...
If the bit i'm reading turns out the way i think, (i wont say which bit in case you haven't read it yet), The Matrix borrowed so much from this book its uncanny

Hehe, The Matrix borrows from all over the place. Ever seen Ghost In The Shell? Total rip off ;)

Yeah, Ghost in the shell's theme was definately used for The Matrix.
Ghost in the shell is still pretty good though... ;)
I've never worked out what ;;^^ or ^^;; is supposed to be. I know most of my anime/manga derived emoticons but this one stumps me. Eyes with ear+ earring? O_o

I don't know about the French, but Germans have adapted to the international standard of 1337ology quite well. I can't remember a single word that would be unique to us ... hmmm ...
nub, nib, newb, noob, lol, rofl, roflmao, lmao, ^^, fu, kos, hokay, kthxbye ... we got 'em all.

The Matrix borrowed from The Bible more than anything else...
1984 is truly a superb piece of distopic literature, matched only (i said matched, not beaten) by Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World."
As far as d00dsp3@k goes, frankly it annoys the hell outta me.
