isn't that the brand of water coka cola makes 3000% profit on?
Something about that was in the news here a couple of weeks ago

ya know if anyone had tried to sell bottled water 30-40 years ago, they would have been laughed at and stoned (possibly, in more ways then 1). and now look at how big an industry bottled water is...

Psyco Groupie
19-03-04, 19:49
yep and yep

its made from tap water that goes through a 'extremely complex purification' process.

and its certainly designer water .. said isnt it

manderf

well according to the article you have a higher risk of getting cancer from drinking the UK's tap water, which has 25 per billion bromate, whereas this recalled Dasani had 10-22 per billion bromate

so it's really not that big of a deal at all....

I have to laugh at people buying tap water in a bottle next we'll be buying designer air

actually you can buy designer air , heh

there was an oxygen bar here in California for a while where hundreds of people would come, plug themselves up to a machine, and breathe "the purest oxygen", which would apparently get you "high"

but all it was was air going through a house-hold filter in some back room

Psyco Groupie
19-03-04, 20:00
yep, you can get cans of oxygen in clubs

NS_CHROME54
19-03-04, 20:03
i laugh at ANYONE who goes to one of those oxygen bars. i mean how stupid can you get?

"Gimme a shot, dammit"

those joints are for all the artsy-fartsy street guys that try to sell some absolute bullshit paintings, calling them "abstract," and make shitty mosaics on sidewalks with chalk and call it "art." fuckin nutbags...

NEW OXI-FRESH! MORE THAN 20% Pure OXYGEN!

Actually they don't mention the UK limits, only the EU one. We tend to be a lot more stringent on things like this.

That said, I'm sure the limits are overkill. Nanny State paranoia is rampant everywhere these days.

Compared to the other toxins that's have appeared in bottled water over the years this one is trivial. Why anyone would ever pay for bottled water in (most of) the developed world is beyond me. I guess Barnum was right.

19-03-04, 20:18
Barnum? as in P.T Barnum the confidence scammer? what did he say? or am i missing the point having not read the article. I heard it all over radio one today so couldnt be arsed to read it....

So Coca-Cola is selling purified water as a luxury item. I live in Chile, and here you can buy purified at the supermarket. It has been 'purified' seven times, which makes it very pure. It costs approx 74 pence for a five litre bottle (approx. USD 1.20)., which I'm sure is a lot less than Coke's water.

What a load of crap.

Anyhow, I thought that purified water is generally made from recycled water anyhow.

Psyco Groupie
19-03-04, 21:33
i think its 1 pound sterling per litre .. or worse

NS_CHROME54

i bought about 10 litres of bottled watever for about $1.50 a while ago. that's by far the cheapest i've ever seen.

edit: canadian currency

i got about tons of bottled water ;P trust me, even with filters on my tap... no... ;P

the damn water smells like ass in georgia and florida, most likely due to the high sulfur content.

meh water = sulfur + iron + bunch of minerals that i just dun wanna drink.

Psyco Groupie
19-03-04, 22:19
most of the water i drink has either been distilled (if you know what i mean ;)) or is partially distilled when i boil it in the kettle :)

Art is individual, and everyone interpretation is different..

And if you havnt ever been to an 'air' bar, there very humerous, and bizzare or not, the 'air' really is different :p

Personally I love any type of art, it just depends on your culture, and your pre exposure to it.

Some people dont accept abstract art, as things arent clear, or a landscape picture, which of course is the 'boring' art if you ask me

Putting aside the immediate comedy, "oxygen-bars" are a fantastic look into how a first-rate and totally legal con-job works.

Breathing pure O2, especially at increased pressure, for short times gives you a kind of buzz. I've never tried it but apparently it's a short lived very mild euphoria* which passes within a few minutes with no after-effects. There are various spurious claims about positive effects on headaches, sinus problems, etc. Ie. the usual unprovable non-specific conditions that all "alternative medicine" likes to target so as to circumvent proper medical scrutiny.

The sales-crooks sell the idea by hinting (but carefully not claiming) comparisons to byper-baric chambers and those vague possible health benefits. Of course this is just so the suckers can justify the expenditure to their less gullible mates but it's all part of a good grift.

Many bars also add "flavours" so that even those who feel no effect can at least experience something. This can be very dangerous as they often do it by passing the O2 through scented oils. Blasting oil into your lungs can lead to infections or far more serious conditions.

* - Some people have compared the effects it to Nitrogen Narcosis. This is one reason I wouldn't try it even if it were free.

Heh, Casino's in las vegas, probably many other places too, pump pure OČ into their playing areas. It is legal but it serves as a kind of addition because people feel good while they are there and then they go outside and breath in the smog of the city and want to go back as soon as possible.

I've heard that too but I'm sure it's BS. Think about how much O2 they would need to have any noticable effect on the concentration in the air of a room the size of a Vegas casino. It's possible they do it in the foyer areas I guess but I'm sceptical even then.

I was going to do the math to prove how silly it is but this is easier : http://www.snopes.com/luck/casino.htm

The thing to remember about places like Vegas is that keeping those kind of myths alive is all part of the con. Everyone knows the odds are against them and it's the belief they are somehow different that keeps them going. Bigger odds = bigger dreams, it's human nature and some people are very good at using it to seperate fools from their money.

O_o... they admitted to it. I don't need to see something that thinks its false because its not mathmatically possible ;P I seen them admit to it. It may not be alot, but they still pump it

No they don't. They would need tons and tons of Oxygen an hour to up the concentration by even a fraction of one percent. There would be literally thousands of trucks hauling compressed O2 into The Strip 24/7. People would notice that.

To have any effect on people they would need to increase it by about 30-50 percent. That would require an on-site manufacturing facility and air-locks on all the doors. They would also have to ban all smoking and drinking from the casino for fear of blowing themselves up.

If you look further down that link you'll see that it's believed the rumour started after a failed experiment with pumping aromas into a casino in Atlantic City.
