A few days ago I posted on www.annoyances.org to find a way to setup desktop shortcuts on all the
computers system-wide, and i was told to setup a mandatory profile. Well I have done
that, in fact I made a different profile for each set of users (with slightly different
permissions).

Now... the main problem i am having with this is the internet access. Alot of people
have come back to me saying they cannot access the internet, and they are correct.
when i set up the mandatory profiles i made sure things like that were set correctly,
not that it should matter as it should work on "automatically detect settings".

However when i go into internet options => connections => LAN settings, it shows
all boxes unchecked / unfilled, and any changes i make arent saved.

I will try changing the mandatory profiles to make absolutely sure i set the internet
access up right on them, but i dont think it will make a difference.

Any ideas?

p.s. i would also like to know if it is possible to (for example) delete the my docs
folder on the mandatory profile and have the client PCs use the local (pre-mandatory
profile) my docs folder. the same with favourites etc, can I mix and matxh what I
want to be mandatory?

Thanks in advance

if I'm not mistaken, profiles can be controlled from the active directory controller and distributed accross the network based on logon account. Win2k pro or XP pro domain members should pick them up no problem

You might want to start with the control from the server and not from each workstation but you'll have to dig around on

http://support.microsoft.com

try this link first maybe: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;323368

then try a general search using "Win2k mandatory profiles"

hope it helps ...

i have the profiles all setup... i was just wondering if anyone knew if i could make the profile only apply for certain things. for example letting them have their old "my docs" folder still would be good, as would their printer / favourites list
