I am trying to add 512 MB of PC-800 RDRAM to my Dell 8200. I know I have to buy 2 x 256 MB modules.

Look at the screenshot below and tell me why it costs more money to buy a kit of 2 x 256 modules than 2 individual 256 modules.

In case it helps, this is the exact description of my memory according to Dell: Rambus Inline Memory Module, 256, 400M, 128X16, 8C, 40

Thanks

Ray

there is only one price listed? And the one on the left is 1 512 stick...

Also one is Retail and one is OEM (Original Equipment Manufacture)

use the cruicial website www.crucial.co.uk i think just select your pc manufacturer and model number and it picks all the ram just for your pc

Crucial dont do RDRAM.

I think the kits with 2 Sticks are pre-tested to work with each other, i got a 2nd PC thats got 4 Samsung RDRAM sticks in it and some of the sticks appear to not match up as if i put em in the wrong order the PC wont boot.

Stick on the left is a single 512 stick, not 2 256 sticks. So you are paying for 512 ram AND the convenience of getting it on a single stick instead of taking up two MB slots for it.

you always need to buy rimms in pairs.

unless your getting two 512's, do not get the single 512.

my computer has 4 x 256 rimms.
