You people that are getting insane FPS what the hell?
Some of you have worse rigs then some of us?
Not that I doubt what you folks are saying but is it normal to get 200 or 500 fps? I mean even standing in my apt I don't get a great boost in fps. I have a decent system yet I would need a CPU 3-4x faxter then what I have to even come close to these numbers, and mine is at 2.20mhz!
I have to conclude that dispite prior statements connection speed does play a factor.
So going with that theory could everyone also post where they are at?

To answer your question:

VSync limits your frames per second to that of your vertical resolution. If your vertical resolution was 75hz (75 scans/updates a second) then your FPS would not go above 75.

There are no real drawbacks to enabling this. Without it, lets say you have 300 FPS on a 75hz screen... Well, at some point you might notice video artifacts because of the difference. (Like when you turn in-game, you'll notice vertical "tearing".)

So having 75 FPS with vsync on could be better than having 200 FPS with vsync off on a monitor with only 75 hz?

Think I might turn my V sync off just to see if I get that much of a increase!

You would get a lot of artifacting because your rates aren't synchronized.

Also, the human eye won't notice any difference from that kind of increase in FPS even if your monitor could redraw that fast.

Also, just because it's limited to 75 doesn't mean you have lower performance. Lets say two people (with the same PCs) run a fly-by type demo of Neocron, one with v-sync and one without. The guy without vsync might get 200 looking at his floor while the guy with vsync will get 75, (or whatever his vertical refresh rate is at.) Now once their systems become taxed, they will both fall below that 75 at the same time. Since the eye cannot see a difference, and since it helps limit artifacting, vsync is only good in this situation.

Yes, turn off vsync if you want to benchmark your system. Disabling it has no real world benefits though.

I did notice less hesitation when moving around with vsync off. Before running would cause mini lockups just for a second the fps will drop off and then its ok.
Just over the last couple days have I noticed this, prior to this it was smooth with no problems? I have changed nothing on my system so I can only guess its on the other end.

Now looking at your specs you should be kicking ass on the fps based on combination of your cpu and fsb speed.
You are running about the same fps as I am so I think graphics card might be the equalizer here..just my opinion! :)

I don't think ping has to do with fps, since they shouldn't be related by definition of what they are...

Pretty much the same architecture between the pro and the xt bar another 128 ram and the hsf/temp sensor.

Quite easy to softmod some SE's to a pro and then overclock them up to the same speed as an XT.

Putting both cards side by side @ the same speed, the difference is negligible.

Aye, but doesnt the XT have software that uses the sensor to automatically ramp up/down the clock & mem speed?

Not sure where you are at but I am in Alaska and thats a fair distance from Germany!
However think its been determined that the V sync on or off
will increase or decrease the fps by as much as 300% at least by the numbers I got!
So I suppose the bottom line is as long as you can move and PvP when needed it don't matter what your fps says hehe.

yeah it does have an 'overdrive' feature in the drivers specific to the XT, but its just a nice pretty bar - at raw low level hw o/c'ing you can push the pro to basically an XT.

obviously the XT then can overclock higher but meh \o/

I get about 80 - 100 FPS in my apt, 30 - 40 in P1 but it drops to around 15 when there are lots of people around

How does Rik get Similar FPS to me when his system is nerfed compared to mine is it coz he has more RAM?

Seems like more ram and the processor are doing the trick
Maybe OS as well, and how many progs you run in the background.

Windows 2000 server, winxp amd 2200+, winxp PII 450 intel, winxp PIII 800 intel.

The last one i use as a jukebox and to play divx movies in my living room, the 450 is my gf's computer, so i don't have to stop playing when she wants to check her hotmail :-)

When you turn AA/AF on it COULD pull more power out of the gfx instead of the processor. So if you have a powerful gfx (radeon 9600+/Geforce 5600+) you could probably gain a lot of fps by turning it on.

However think its been determined that the V sync on or off
will increase or decrease the fps by as much as 300% at least by the numbers I got!
So I suppose the bottom line is as long as you can move and PvP when needed it don't matter what your fps says hehe.

Well Neocorn only uses one proc, dual setups need to be supported to be used, software like photoshop, 3d appications use it.

Ow and another thing this ain't the same as running a proc at 4.8 gigahertz, see it as this, instead of one person pulling a rock forward, you now how 2 people pulling it.

It runs Neocron fast enough, so i'm happy

Dual boards are definatly worth it, for me that is :)

I love how people never believe me, and how they think I don't know what I'm talking about ... If i could go find an op war, I would go take screens ... but it's been a while since i've been in a clan. On the AA and AF thing, want me to take screens of my AA and AF settings? This is the reason I posted links to screens, why would I lie about this stuff?

After figuring out the turning off V-Sync would give the rest of us the same fps you and others were getting, it all made sense! :)
Btw who said they did not believe you? Hope it was not me, though sometime's I do talk out my arse. ;)

Also remember NC jumps in its FPS settings.
After 120 ish it jumps to 142, 166, 200, 250, 333, 500

As i say, i get 500 fps with max detail in appt areas, 333 in smaller areas (such as mc5) and then 200/250 in the wastes, and in areas of high activity / diff gfx (i.e TG canyon / plaza 1) i get around 142/166

When the action kicks off, it drops, but even at sieger i dont drop less than 40 in a full battle.

And yes i have screenshots of the 500's ive had in a few diff places.

I moved from a P4 2.8 (533FSB) to a 3.2 (800) which has HyperThreading and it made a HUGE difference in FPS, stability and also logging on with 2 accounts.

When i have 2 accounts on i get an average of 80 fps with both accounts going at the same time, meaning i can fight in PP and leave one sat down in plaza 3.

Then of course i used a vapochill xe to o/c the crap out the chip to a nice stable 4.4 ghz, and ive not had to worry about fps since ;)

I basically just upgraded the whole damn thing last night. Since I had an ASUS MB (P4B266) before I just swapped out everything and let my OS pick up the new drivers. Not as clean as a reinstall but it seems to be working ok. I'm not sure I like the Gfx card but it will do until I can get something better.

Anyway on a DSL connection from GA, USA I'm getting:

>60 fps looking at my boots
~30 fps solid running around plaza 1 with about 10-30 other runners
~25-35 fps at MB bunker ganking cyclops

Next hardware purchase will probably be another 512MB of dual channel and at some point a better Gfx card. Tonight I'm going to goof around with the anti-aliasing, etc and see if I can't tweak it a bit ...

I have a gf2mx400, overclocked to 250/190.
I haven't found the setting to disable vsync anywhere. Anyone have a registry key where i can find it?

You have to set some registry settings so that the nvidia drivers shows it. Google for "CoolBits" together with nvidia & co for more info
