OK, Im bored of NC, and I beat kights of the old republic... was awesome but its over. Im certainly not done with nc (sorry, ill be back pking you soon) Im just bored for the moment and want a fun game to play for a week or 2. I kinda feel like a single player game. Heres some single player games I loved: Fallout 1, Fallout 2, Fallout Tactics, Civ 3, Master of Orion 2.

Anyone have any recommendations? Is Fallout for the Xbox any good at all? Is MOO 3 any good? (review gave it a bad score.... but then they gave NC a bad review too... readers said after the patch it was good, just wasnt rdy for retail)

Is Civ 3 conquests any good? I tried to get it the... free way, but it was downloading at like 1k/sec for like 2 days, gave up... if the DESERVE my money, ill buy it.... I do buy games that deserve my $.
I could go multiplayer too... but not a full game. Is the expanion for C&C Generals worth the $?

Any suggestions?

You haven't tried Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri yet? Seeing as you like Civ, you should give it a go. I played it for well over a year before I got bored, and there is a play by email multiplayer option.

MOO 3 sucks bigtime. I'd recommend Neverwinter Nights and all it's explansions. Warcraft 3 mod called Defense of the Ancients (DotA) is awesome too. Definitely the best mod for WC3. I've also played some Thief 2 again because it's awesome atmosphere and idea. I'm just waiting for the third one to come out soon. And not to mention about Sam & Max 3D version, WoW or BDoY ;)

Seriously tho, I dig that game. SC3K rocks, I still play it sometimes. Building a big profitable city without cheats is really satisfying for some reason.

ok, sorry i cant remeber every game ive played.... ive beaten Never Winter Nights at least twice, was good, now bored of it. Played WC3. Actually didnt like alpha centuri much... funny thing was I loved a lot of things about it, some very good concepts, the terriforming, upgradable units etc, but I hated being on "planet" instead of earth, and I wanna go from stone age - modern, not space age to ultra space age. and I didnt like any of the races... I felt no connection to them. In Civ 3 I play American because im american, or Roman or German because I respect their past achievments.

Please elaborate on why moo3 sucks?

Anyone have civ 3 conquests and enjoy it?

yeah played dues ex. very fun. heard dues ex 2 was short and not very good.... I get more in the mood to play civ 3 and moo 3 as I talk about it...

So again can anyone say WHY moo3 is bad? has anyone played civ 3 conquests?

MOO3 sucks because its unfinished in a way, MOO 1 & 2 were micromanagement, you could rulle the galaxy with a few planets. In MOO3 however its all about macromanagement, you need ALOT of planets to stay with the opponents, you cant control your planets well enough anymore and i hate that they took out the turnbased combat.

Also, you could try Age of Wonders 2, been busy with it and still enjoying it.

if you enjoy civ games try fnd a windows version of colonisation, pharaoh or myth 2: soulblighter, are all ace games.

I even found a version of transport tycoon delux that works on xp god that game rocks, bolox to all this fancy gfx it's just all good gameplay, ohh and sim golf thats a sweet game imo.

and i know exactly what you mean about alpha centuri i felt the same way and went right back to civ 2.

Not true. I played it and love it. It's the first game that was really fun to play and the story and the comments were absolutely funny.
Best mix of shooter/good story/pure fun!

Also you could try Civilization: Call to Power I (far better then Call to Power II) or Civ 3 with all the addons it's quite ok.

Or the finest strategy game: Total Annihilation (with or without Core Contingency [Addon]) it's absolutely brilliant.

Also Enemy Territory is a quite ok mission based shooter (for free :D). Just make sure to have the newest patch and there you go with lot's of servers and enough ppl.

Or if you want a good space flight simulator with great story: Conflict : Freespace (I and II both got great storys and well made goal based missions).

These are the newer ones.

X-Wing Alliance, X-Wing, Tie Fighter are older ones, but still great, especially X-Wing, but u need a dos computer for it :p

edit: These are all older games except Civ3 (the addons for it came out in Nov 2003), and therefor very cheap.

@Vetterox

Agree with you about Alpha Centauri, I have the game, but just couldn't relate to it like I did the Civ games.

Ever tried Dungeon Keeper 1 and 2? Really good fun games, I enjoyed them thoroughly due to the fact you get to play an evil guy, instead of a good guy. Should appeal to you? :D

Black & White + expansion was good, no matter how people whine about it, it WAS a brilliant game and I still play it.

A good RTS if you like them, was Dark Reign a few years ago, unbelieveably difficult in places, but awesome soundtrack and control system. TBH I have to wonder why it wasn't more popular, guess because of lack of marketing I suppose. The control system was practically revolutionary because it had so many different functions/options and the other RTS games around just didn't have that.

Going really old school, you might like Crusader : No Regret and Crusader : No Remorse. Damned good fun IMO.

Also try Syndicate and Syndicate Wars. IMO two of the best games I have ever played in my entire life. Utterly outstanding.

Dungeon Keeper 2 is kick ass. The frequesnt narrator comments keep the game humourous ["Keeper! Your dungeon floor is lumpy. Monsters can no longer play marbles. Have them jump up and down!"]. And the music when you get a big winner at the casino.....lol Disco Inferno! Forget the first one and just go straight for 2.

Caeser3, Pharaoh, Zeus or Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom are all pretty cool if you like city building with the option of combat. They all kept me addicted for a long time.

Just finished playing Ghostmaster which was pretty fun. Think evil sims. Some of the task were very obscure, but at the same time quite inventive in the way they had to be completed.

Hmmm... ive played about every game people have mentioned... Total Annihilation... that brings me back.... now I know a lot of you will just roll your eyes and say "more of Vets bragging" but I was extremely good at that game.... got it the week it was out and played for 2 1/2 years strait... I was often in the top 10 in cases kali and mplayer ladder rating system. unfortunetly just another game plauged by cheaters though... remeber one of the "best" players, h0tr0d admitted he cheated when he finnaly left... lol old times. TA was MUCH better then star raft though, just didnt have blizzards marketing power.

On that note, I was very saddened that Chris Taylor decided not to make TA 2 and sold it to some stupid korean company... it was a great American game and now we might not even see TA 2 in the USA... sigh.

Dark riegn was cool, not as good as TA, but good.

Civ CTP.... yeah was one of thoes games tht got a shit rating, like NC, but you had to mod it and get a few patch fixes, then it was great.

Giants came free with a sound card I got, played it, was pretty good.

Dungeon keeper... dunno if its my style... kinda a comedy/strategy in maneging a dungeon right? would be the type id have to try before buy.

I picked up moo3 for 9.99.... and I am sad to admit im stumped on how to play... usually learn games very easily.... dont see how to stop civil unrest, how to set research focus, how my tax rateeffects citizens and how to set what buildings i want built on my colonies.... if anyone has played could you give me the basics?

sex to that!!

Ja2 is a sweet game. Its got pretty naff gfx by todays standards as it came out originally in like 98 or something and even then it only jus made it due to the publishers goin belly up or something. Tbh though it is a mint game, i love it when im not playing nc.

To give you a taster its basically a turn based strategy game (similar to fall out and xcom etc) where you have to assault and take control of cities and mines to provide you with an income. the more mines and cities you control the better the people you can hire. The story line is basic and simple, you (the main mercenary) have been hired by the former king of the country to go back and assasinate his wife (the queen) who tried to kill him and take over power. At the time he fled (pussy) and now wants u to do his dirty work. Theres also an addon which gives more/better guns and improved enemy ai as tbh the ai of the original game is pants on anything but the hardest difficulty level. Ive heard/seen reports of a new mod coming out for the game also on game spot. however i dont know if this is an official add on or if its jus a player made mod. its based on the original ja2 map (the first add on is in a new country) so i think it might be a player made mod. The one thing this game REALLY lacks is a multiplayer option. The ability to play against a friend would imo send this game right up there to the top of its class. it really would be insane fun. I got the game when it first came out and i still go back and play it now, its retained my interest for the best part of 6 years. They simple things please simple minds but heh it was only £20 when i bought it. 20 / 6 = £3.somethin a year aint bad.

Return To Castle Wolfenstein!
I just purchased this game a few weeks back and am having a great time with it. It's 1st person shooter with some pretty decent graphics. Lots of action and it has single and multi player mode, It reminds me of the days when first started playing online with Duke Nukem "Lets Rock" god loved that game.
Anyway it was about 20$ and that was at Compusa so I am sure you can find it chaper plus it comes with the expansion Enemy Territory.

Oh and if you can find it Planescape Torment extremely excellent game. Plus everything that was listed above, people here have excellent taste. Oh and if not already mentioned System Shock 2 with the new texture pack. SS1 is good also but Its rather dated not sure if it would run in a windows format?

if ya got serious cash look into Steel Battalion and Steel Battalion 2 on the XBOX. Sweeter than Sweet mech sim that comes with awesome mech sim controller (look it up for shots it rules) the original is one player only but sequal is Xbox live enabled for that pk feel i know you love so much. (just stay clear of CrazyJuan cause in this game I have the experience edge and its a level playing field )
also, if have an xbox (and you should) but dont wanna spend that much money on great online fun, get Crimson Skies, its second best live game out there (now that SB2 is out) very addicting and very much again with the player vs player and team dogfighting action.
pc games,
i didnt read many posts so exuse me if i repeat anyone
if you havent beat it all to hell and the expansions too Morrowind is a sweet rpg
then theres Dues ex 2, thats pretty sweet.
Call of duty is the best WW2 action you'll find anywhere currently although the new wolfenstien game (not the return to the castle but the other one) is almost as cool. Pirates of the carribeen was surprisingly good. if you want DandD style action Temple of elemental evil is pretty good cause it sticks very close to actual rules. and on the cheap look into Live for Speed, a great free downloadable racer sim that has one of the best physics engines i've seen, and finally uplink, a hacker sim that is pretty basic and very highly addictive, should be able to get that under 30 bucks now.
just some ideas

I'm still wondering if you have an inferiority complex though.

i like generals zero hour alot yeah :) online and regular (regular is fun when you make youre own map and place a gla, chinese and american base in it so ya have all technology to use against a few hard enemy's, same with yuri's revenge)

but i like the whole C&C series :)

like 2 days ago there was an action here that ya could buy the pack of: tiberian sun (and firestorm), redalert2 (and yuri) and renegade in 1 package : it costed 25euro and is ideal for lan party's at youre home + for online.
also renegade is majour fun, its yust tiberian sun in first person view (or third hehe) :) and the online server hold up to 55 people, real fun yeah with them tanks and all :)

i can also reccomend rollercoaster tycoon2 but i dunno if its youre kind of game :) ya cant really kill people in it ya see (well ya can drown em :P but that gets boring real fast)

also sof2 is pretty enjoyable, littlebit more action and very fun, but all so standard fps-like.

ya played halflife fire-arms btw ??? somekind of war-addon for halflife :) veery nice and free downloadable mod

also: vietnam in the line of sight: very nice game graphicwise but pretty hard yeah: every second ya dont watch out ya can get a sniperbullet in youre head in the non-online version :/ from a sniper that is lying in bushes 200 meters away: ffcourse ya cant see em by a bit so ya have to crawl and stealth youre way true the jungle.

well these are the first ones i can think off but im sure there are many more, and they dont have to cost alot ya know .. some very good old games for very nice prices out there :)

and before i forget: in neocron ya can also tradeskill ya know: poke, construct, research and stuff.

and yeah: even roleplay :)

but variety is what it all makes worth it, enjoy playing and enjoy posting

MOO3 is cool but it did lose a lot of what made 1 and 2 so great. For one the hero system is crap, I loved the hero system in 2. Plus as Supe said its more about macromanagement instead of micro like before. And the combat is kinda weak too.

I'd also recommend Dungeon Seige. If you havent played it, its worth a try. Ive been playing it off and on lately.

Also downloaded UT2004 last night. Its awesome. ;)
