bwahahaha, hope i get ur interest...
This thread is about MUSIC ONLY so now please all non-musician leave...

My new love is System of a Down. I feel immediately after hearing 'toxicity' and now i'm listening to it all the time and my wife can't stand it and want to move out untill i got bored with it haha...
Wierd thing is that i've never liked those modern US hybrid style music (can't stand Tool and its various clones, for example); i find it usually too simple or too limited as for my taste (i usually listen to some art/progresive rock/metal styles - Tiamat, Katatonia, Anathema, Moonspell, Marillion, Pink Floyd, Peter Hammil, Nick Cave and the like...), but this band has something pretty vital plus it has surprisingly eloquent musical technique.

Well, now is my question to all US musicians out there, can u recommend me something else?
The only US artists I know and except SOAD are Type'O'Negative and Korn (both are quite original and i have great respect for their art), but i'm sure it's only the top of the iceberg, so please
i'm waiting for your advice

OF course in exchange i can recommend hundreds of european rock/metal/alternative artists that are worth to know. But first gimme ur input please

Some US Bands to recommend but may not be to your taste (just too many to list so just listing ones not mentioned yet :p):

A Perfect Circle - The 13th Step is a great album, don't even compare them to Tool even though they share singers
Fantomas - Mike Patten is the king of art metal \o/
Slayer - Old school metal that still kicks you in the balls
Alice In Chains - The album Dirt is full of dark lyrics
Avenged Sevenfold - great hybrid of old school metal (eg. Iron Maiden) and modern hardcore.
White Zombie - b-grade horror movie inspired metal
AFI - Goth punk rockers from California
Probot - Dave Grohl's metal side project with underground metal guest singers
Monster Magnet - Ballsy psychadelic rock
Queens of the Stone Age - Stoner pop
Kyuss - the kings of US stoner rock
Nine Inch Nails - The Fragile is one of the best albums out there.
The Tea Party - Canadian band who use exotic instruments from around the world

That's it, I'll stop for now ...... there's more but it really depends on what you like ;)

Digs crap. Don't judge Mudvayne on that one song. I dunno why they did it, it's like the worst song on the CD.

And Mudvayne _are_ good. I'm a decent songwriter and I could rant on about there songwriting skills and talent for ages.

I'm into a lot of metal/hardcore/emo/indie/prog bands, and while they aren't my absolute favourite band, I recommend a band called Every Time I Die. They're a US metal/hardcore band who are just starting to be noticed. They write powerful, aggressive songs with interesting lyrics (their new single is about a mass prostitute auction) and they have an odd sense of humour. Best songs are

Ebolarama
Off Broadway
Pornogratherapy

Other bands I'd recommend are

Funeral For A Friend (if you live in the UK you should have heard of them)
Thrice (my absolute favourite band, really good mix of punk, metal and emo, in terms of songwriting, IMO they are the best modern rock band in the world)
Hondo Maclean (hilariously OTT welsh underground emo/thrash metal band)
At The Drive-In (most influential band of the past 5 years)

Yeah, the first 2 albums were really good, but War All The Time was complete and utter shit apart from 2 songs.

im not a fan of emo or nu metal but i would agree thursday own funeral for a friend and all the clones and that korn, deftones and machine head are still the kings of nu metal.

on a better note muse own the UK rock scene (imo any way :D)
and the new decide album is really good.

bands to watch out for . black dahlia murder , damage plan and cult of luna. so very very good (especially cult of luna).

As for this new breed of diluted metal i hope chimara are found to be void and sent back to the production line where they came from same with as i lay dieing.

every time i die = annoying.

I like tool...... :) Lots of good bands listed by weazle.

If no one has checked them out yet..........

Let me introduce you to The Mars Volta.
They have a 3 song EP "tremulant"
and a 10 song LP "Deloused in the Comatorium"

Their live show is incredible too.

2 members are ex-ATDI.

Check them out. You can hear a mix of Rush, Zeppelin, Santana, and Yes in their influences, but they definitely have their own style. The chord progressio in the chorus of take the veil on the cd is very catchy. Eriartika is extremely good also and has a good progression.

You may not like the songs, but the bassist and the drummer are extremely talented. One of the better rythm sections to come out of the nu-metal era ( I hate that term.)

The guitarist plays pretty good also, but the bassist and drummer are by far the highlights of that band.

I agree, 90% of EMO is shit. (just watch Kerrang for 60 minuits and you could learn to hate emo with a vengence)
For the Emo that is actually good, it tends to be very good. Thursdays CD "Full Colapse" is an example of an Exceptionaly good Emo CD.

The catholic church is under a lot of stress at the moment, because it's beliefs are becoming politically incorrect and socially unaceptable, which is a good thing. Religion is no excuse.

My favs apparently arent what the crowd here ordered, hehe.

1) Early Metallica (im suprised only one other person agrees  )
2) Red Hot Chili Peppers (ok, maybe not exactly metal, or "hardcore" rock, but still some pretty damn good music)
3) Disturbed (Daves vocalizations are fucking awesome, though sometimes a bit demonic, hehe)
4) Audioslave (basically Rage Against The Machine, doesnt quite have the kick rage has, but its getting there)
5) POD (just kidding, though there are few songs i actually like ;) )

Im sure theres more, but i guess ill let yall tear apart my favs before I give you any more

Make that 2 people. Early Metallica were good, but Megadath where better. Dave Mustain put metallica in there shoes in the early days. He's the one who created that sound. He used to be in Metallica, but then metallica chucked him out for being a crazy motherfucker. :p

You noob. :p

Whisky in the Jar - Recent Thin Lizy cover ><
Turn the Page - cover of a song by Some American Guy (not previously a well known song, I think.)
Unforgiven - Black Album (not considered early metallica)
Enter Sandman - Black Album (not considered early metallica)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Early Metallica = "Kill em all (83)" "Ride the Lightning (84)" "Master of Puppets (86)" "...And Justice for All (88)"

Not early Metallica = "Black Album (1991)" "load" "ReLoad" "Garage Inc (with the exception of the 2nd CD)" "S&M" "St Anger"

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To hear early Metallica, listen to: "Battery" "Motorbreath" "Fight Fire With Fire" "Blackened"

Where the hell are you coming from? You have no ground to stand on.

Im not a fan of mainstream music, but sometimes theres a good band that makes it big....nothing I can do about that.

I just make sure I listen to new bands right when they come out, before anyone on the radio knows about them....then I don't need an excuse :p

Some great bands that never see much radio play:

Otep: one of a kind vocals

Primer 55: standard rapcore, but better then your regular limp bizkit bullshit...lyrical content is actually A+ in this shit

Videodrone: really different music, not really heavy...nothing can explain these guys

Drain STH: really cool female band

Relative Ash: fucking hardcore vocals, these guys aren't signed to a record label of any sort so thier album is rough but still great

Factory 81: just like relative ash, only different :p

Opeth: good, solid, heavy music

Meshuggah: good, solid, heavy music

Hed P.E: rapcore at its absolute BEST, an intense mix of slow AND fast vocals, heavy AND mellow songs...great lyrical content

Slaves on Dope: heavy vocals, fairly heavy music....you gotta like screaming to enjoy these guys, and you gotta like loud LOUD music that will give you a headache if you listen to it all day. they're probably canada's heaviest band, right out of toronto... good shit worth checking out if you like really LOUD metal, but its not oldschool metallica-loud, its more nu-metal loud

Jerk: amazing new band from australia, they don't have a worldwide release yet but if you look hard enough you can find thier self-released album online that i believe you can only buy in australia

Ill Nino: some mexican dudes that have managed to make really REALLY good, fairly heavy music with great lyrics and theres even some mexican lyrics mixed in lol....these guys take awhile to get used to, but are one of my fav bands hands down..they're a great band

Systematic: not too heavy, but definately solid....like a lighter and more americanized version of ill nino

Spineshank: my fav band atm, nuff said...you should listen to these guys if you can relate to the lyrics and enjoy loud vocals
