well what would be the best video card (for neocron) with about 150 to 200 dollars to spend

In my experience with Neocron it's not so much the video card as it is the processor, but I have never had any problems running Neocron with an Asylum GeForce FX5600 (non-Ultra) 256MB card.

I pretty much only play Neocron and I have had no problems. My fiancee plays FF XI and no problems there either.

This thread will probably end up with some ATI > nVIDIA and nVIDIA > ATI comments, but in the end, IMO anyway, it's your processor that makes the biggest difference. At least for now.

My recommendation: nVIDIA, I just bought another FX5600 256MB card for less than $130 US.

For Neocron?

Doesn't really matter tbh IMO.

I use a standard Geforce 2 and it works perfectly.

As Elfinlord said, it's more processor based than anything since the engine appears to be very hungry.

ya with my shitty geforce 5200 128 ram i get like 10 fps at a big op battle. Maybe its because my comp is hella running slow and need to be reformated. and i only got 256 ram

Most likely.

I get fine FPS at OP wars or elsewhere.

Might want to try reducing veg detail etc, see if that helps.

Get another 256 RAM slotted in, I've got 512 and since I jumped from 256 it's made quite a difference with certain things.

It's all about what you like better.

ATi and Nvidia both have extremely good cards out right now, for their price, and a purchase of either a 9600XT (ATi) or a 5600 Ultra (Nvidia) both work really damn good in Neocron.

Once again, it's all about who you feel safer with.

IMO, there's nothing wrong with either of em. I've used both, and neither company has failed me yet.

Good luck. :)

dunno about the whole cpu > video card argument.

a faster cpu is ALWAYS gonna help theres no doubt about it, but neocron runs better on my fileserver (when i boot it into windows) then on my laptop....and heres the specs:

fileserver: 800mhz athlon, 512mb ram, 64mb geforce3 (my old card)

laptop: 1200mhz athlon xp, 512mb ram, 16mb radion mobility

with all settings on lowest possible:

fileserver: 20-30 fps in plaza

laptop: 5-10 fps in plaza

kinda proved to myself right there that its not ALL about cpu, you gotta have a decent video card either way.

I considered myself an nVidia fan but I recently bought a Radeon 9600XT. My major deciding factor really had nothing to do with Neocron, as it worked fine on my old GeForce 3 ti 200. Basically after doing a lot of research I ended up getting a Radeon because supposedly the FXs really bite it when it comes to DX9 shaders. I was playing SWG last month and that uses DX9 shaders (although you can set it DX8 shader version).

IMO I wouldn't get the card I got, tho. I am pretty sure you can get a 9600 Pro or perhaps a 9500 and overclock it, and save some cash and get only a minor chink in performance.

Like someone mentioned earlier, if you are going nVidia stay FAR, FAR away from the 5200s. They TEH SUX. :) Go 5600 or 5700.

Oh, and vegetation turned up all the way kills my computer too. :/ And I have the above mentioned card, 1 gig of ram and a 1.8 P4 processor. Maybe the processor is the bottleneck or maybe its just inefficient coding. :P Vegetation (on highest detail mode) always seems to be a killer on every game I play.

Instead of opening a new thread I thought I'd ask on here, is this graphics card really good?
MSI Fx5900-TD128 8xAGP 128MB TV-Out DVI DirectX 9 Retail Box.

Thinking about getting it, but I am a big n0o0b when it comes to this shit. I am not just talking neocron playing, I mean just for all computer games.

same problem with me on my laptop: the small gfx-units cant compete against the desktop's graphics cards: ya need atleast some decent card indeed, altough a decent cpu stays required ffcourse ... for this reason i bought myself one of those soltek barebones: atleast ya can put a decent card in that + ya can take it to lanparty's or friends or work or sumthing (if ya buy a lcd monitor ffcourse, crt is a bit to big and clumsy to take with ya hehe)

Neocron fps is based on your CPU but when Doy comes out it wil be more based on your GPU:angel:

I've seen Radeon 9800s on new egg for as little as $198, do not touch the powercolour radeons they're shite.

Neocron is DirectX 7 based so it mostly uses the CPU but that will change to DX 9 for the release of BDOY, the only card fully hardware compatable with DX9 at present is the 9800 series.

The FX5950 is a good card but its just a soft modded 5900, besides it'll cost you a kidney to buy one.

From what I was told it's sposed to be a good card. It's what I'm getting *shrug* (http://www.allstarshop.com/shop/product.asp?pid=8367&sid=NP1MUV7J5ER79LL7Q1Q2FADB7L024V56)
I was told it's a pretty good card, like I said above...plus it's not all that xpesive really.

right now nc goes off cpu pretty much but once doy comes out it'll use dx9 and go off the vid card

If your going to buy that card you might want to read this:

I ordered this baby today:

MSI MS-8937 FX5900XT-VTD128, GeForceFX 5900, 128MB DDR, DVI, ViVo, AGP (http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/vga/vga/pro_vga_detail.php?UID=534)

I hope I get finally more than 5-8 FPS in an OP fight... ;)

after my gfx card dying over the W/E and going from a GF4TI4100 64MB to a Radeon 9200SE 128MB (Tempory) i notice that i have slightly lower FPS in NC that with the GF so having a reasonable GFX DOES help but it is mostly affected by the CPU.

thats my experience neway

just hope i can get the 9600XT i'm looking at soon :/

ya i dunno i got a 2.4 gig hd. I am gonna get a gig of ram then reformat. Zone vortex has like a geforce4 ti4800 with 256 ram and like a 2.6 gig proccessor, and he gets like 40 to 30 in a really crowded op battle. So i might just go for his
