Ok, over the last few days I've had emails, pm's, and posts regarding having the next uk gathering in glasgow, selfishly that's fine by me :p
Now the question is when? Originally I was thinking may or june, but many people have said end of July is better for them.
You tell me!

we need to know what kind of gathering it is going to be, i.e LAN event, in which case the only way i see this happening is renting some sort of venue and asking people to bring comps along, if its that sort of event. my local lan centre closed down recently, and it would have been perfect aswell :(
but like i said, would love to help out :D
Those dates sound good for me.
I only know the Yoker and Clydebank area of Glasgow, and off the top of my head i can't think of where it would be good to be held.

I was thinking of many places you could hold it but none of them include a LAN centre :(
1. Find a hotel that has a conference room were ppl can bring there own pc's
2.If we get the numbers for it and we are willing to pay a bit more you could host it in the secc:rolleyes: but yet again you need to bring your own pc....
2.or ill check looking for a LAN centre till I find one , (coz the only one I knew (gameland) closed due to some reason)

Like the last event It is too far away for most people in the UK. No offence to people who made the trip, good on you.
I would love to attend one of these events, but you really do have to start thinking of somewhere more central in the british Isles.
To somewhere like Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham or even going back to Nottingham is a better idea simply because of the travelling.
Sorry if that was a bit of a negative post, but I've heard similar views from other guys I play with and I felt it was relevant :)

Tbh, we've been more than fair, so far we've had:
1st - Nottingham (midlands central to everyone)
2nd - Southend (gave a chance to the southern folks)
and now the 3rd is up north in Glasgow. I don't see a problem when we've not kept it in the same place everytime to make it so more people are able to attend from around the uk.

And moaning about the location - Danae's right, they've had one in the midlands already, what more do you want? I may well be living in Glasgow by July so it's not a problem for me, but seriously, book your plane or train tickets early and they are NOT expensive.
Some thoughts:
After speaking to a few people we *may* be able to use some farm land and have a camping/bbq/drinking weekend. I don't know how many people this would appeal to (i love camping so it's cool with me), but we would have to charge a tiny bit to cover toilet rental and to pay the guy back for using his land, other than that it would be bring your own camping stuff and food for the weekend, bring lots of beer, and just have a relaxing weekend with other Neocron folks.
Now so far most people I've talked to are into this idea, but what do the rest of you think?
This was spurred on because there are no lan centres in Glasgow anymore, they have all closed :( We cannot afford to rent a convention centre or hotel for the weekend because I can't put money up for it (sorry i r not rich :p)

As long as the place isnt too hard to get to that would be fine too.
I like my bed too much to be camping out, but I'd sure as hell come along during the day / night (and get the train home when I'm sleepy :p).

Just a thought why not try one of the universities or colleges, they will all have networks, many should have lan societies etc so they may allow you to use them since it should be during the summer, not sure what/if they would charge though.

you make it sound like it isn't going to be fun, i can see this being a good laugh, especially for those that missed the last one. its going to happen anywayz so miss it and your just going to miss out on all the fun of the neocracks together, while you play nc with none of us there :p
This is currently just an idea.
Another idea is to meet friday evening for a drink at a pub in glasgow and from there go to a camp site. have a big bbq/party all day on saturday, and leave sometime on sunday. also, i dunno how many of you have kids or wives/husbands/gfs/bfs but a lan party isn't much fun for the whole family if you would want them along to a bbq/camping it'd be a lot easier. NOT EVERYONE would have to camp, you could simply show up for the pub and BBQ. Camping is just a cheap alternative to getting a hotel in Glasgow.
The lan was cool for suking however it was rather anti social and everyone had their nose in a computer :p
The biggest problem is, I personally cannot afford to put 1p up front for anything like renting a place etc. With suking we were offered a lan centre to use with no money up front and no stipulations. that is not going to happen twice.
Like i said these are just ideas, we don't need anything decided until april 1st. so you have until then to come up with some ideas and opinions. I'm glad to hear them!
I didnt say it wouldnt be fun, I just feel that I would enjoy myself more if there was a focus on what brought us together, i.e neocron.
Otherwise i think it may end up with small groups of people that dont know each other keep themselves to themselves.
It's why LAN's are so popular, not only is it a meeting place of likeminded peeps - but its also a 'show and tell' which is a great conversation starter.
Just my own thoughts tbh

I think the whole Pub and BBQ plan is SWEET, we get really drunk one day, then sleep all the next day, start a huge FIRE :D :D and burn about 20 cows on it.

Yeah TBH the LAN worked as an icebreaker, most of the people seemed to know each other from Uranus but playing Warcraft 3 with BioRambo and stuff was cool... I'd say we were all much better friends by the evening, just because we'd been able to play online first and then come running over and shout 'that was bullshit! You shouldn't have killed me!!!!'
I've been to a few meets in my time, and believe me, just throwing people in together in a pub rarely works, especially for a large community like Neocron where your best mate online is not likely to be coming.

Well, my insurance expires at the end of April so I will have to renew it by then anyway... also I have a much bigger car (Volvo 440) so maybe it should be the vehicle of choice for our little voyage, I dunno, all this is up in the air if Danae and Oath don't fiddle their dates just a teeny bit...
My insurance will only cover me in my car... so it'd have to be mine if we share the driving... and as for the dates... can we hear from other people if they mind if they are put forward to before the 19th July?
The date has already been set as July 24th-25th as the topic says. We are just in the proccess of deciding where and what now.

It's not much of a date if you alienate two people who would have otherwise come, though, is it?
I mean by all means you can't satisfy everyone, but how many people would object to it being the 17-18th (a week earlier) instead?

Wich means although the date is not suitable for them *the minority* they're gonna make every effort to come, good on them, for not whining and bitching and asking for the date to be changed. I salute them.
The date has been decided because it suits the majority of people here, changing it will put a lot of people out of place.
So remeber kids just say no.

If the people who voted for the 24th-25th all decided the weekend before is acceptable then I would have no problem changing the date. But tbh no matter when we set the date not everyone is going to be 100% pleased and not 100% of the people who want to come will be able to due to life. I was hoping for the first of august myself but I'm flexible :p
This is up to everyone who is interested not just a few, so I suggest if you truly want the date changed you approach the other people in this thread and appeal to them.
It also needs to be taken into an account that the style of this meeting may not appeal to everyone but so far it has appealed to the majority of the people in this thread. It's very likely that unfortunately, there will be no lan party for this event. We're not going to please everyone and it's futile trying. But we'll do the best with what we have. The few people from Glasgow who have offered to, and are assisting planning this event are getting all the info they can and I appreciate their assistance.
I didn't want to have to make 3 different poll threads regarding one topic but if it's deemed neccessary I will gladly comply.
As always input is neccessary and important to the success of events like these but that input needs to be timely ie. when the discussion is going we need the input then.
PS. This will be the last meeting that I am 100% able to commit myself to doing due to some major life changes coming up :p heh So that is one reason it is in Glasgow - ease of travel for me (selfishly) as well as their being a strong concentration of Neocron players up here, as well as having already had events in the midlands and the south, it was high time to do one up north.
Here is my appeal for the date to be changed to the weekend before (17-18th). All who agree or otherwise have no problems with this say AYE!!!!!!
