What are the dimensions of a zone in terms of in-game meters?

If I can fly a drone 30,000 meters and make it across a zone, great. But if I can only fly a drone 8,000 meters, is that when it gets fuzzy or is that when I can't see anything anymore?

someone did an experiment ages ago, i think it wold have been erased by now though.
