My brothers PC exploded ages ago and he has been trying hard to get back to Neocron for a while. His name is Shaze on pluto, and Flakk on saturn by the way.

Can anybody suggest a decent Mother board and 3D card combo for under 200 pounds? I was thinking about a shitty AGP motherboard and then spending the Bulk of the cash on a Low MB High End Nvidia. (cheaper)

Any suggestions?

*edit*
AMD motherboard. :p

~£50 - Asus A7V600 motherboard. Has all the features you need but it's not the very top of the line so therefore not to expensive. That gives you £150 to spend on a 3D card, which is enough for a GeForce FX 5600 256MB or a Radeon 9600 Pro 256MB or 9600XT 128MB.

Sweet. I didn't know you could get motherboards with AGP for that low. Nice one m8! ;)

Agree with Scikar, that ASUS mboard isn't a bad board by a long stretch.

I also suggest checking out www.maplin.co.uk , since they have had a lot of bundles lately for damned good price. I got my Ath 2600XP + mboard + fan for £150.

Pretty good prices period too, as do www.dabs.com

Yeah it's AGP 8x, with 400MHz FSB, accepts PC3200 RAM, and has a Gb LAN built in. :)

So, going from local prices:

ABIT NF7-S $139
ATI Radeon 9600XT 128MB DDR $259

= $398 CAD = £162

(from xe.com)

Obviously your local prices will be different..

Heh, the NF7-S 2.0 blows that motherboard out of the water and would cost ~£56

Yeah the 9600XT is shown at about £125 at www.aria.co.uk. Bear in mind though that in the UK we have 17.5% VAT. I figured best to err on the side of caution, better to get a card slightly below what you can afford and get a fancy optical mouse than spend more and more than you budgeted for. :)

whats the difference between the A7V600-X and A7V600?

The X version has a bunch of features stripped out. I'm not sure exactly what though.

Going from that website:

NF7-S = 79.84 (inc vat)

9600XT = 125.73 (inc vat)

ahh, 5.57 over. is that too much? :P

A "Lite-Retail" (OEM) version of the Sapphire 9600XT 128Mb card will set you back just over 100 pounds: available from www.komplett.co.uk

A good site to search other sites for cheap hardware:

www.pcindex.co.uk

Sites I buy from occasionally:

www.dabs.co.uk
www.cclcomputers.co.uk
www.aria.co.uk
www.scan.co.uk
www.blankdiscshop.co.uk (good for cd/dvd +-rw and accessories)
