Tank Random Damage?

I have been using plasma cannons since i started my tank and i get random damage on it, is this right?
I do 54 damage to a Chaos bat thing 100/100
but it goes more like this out of the 4 shots:- 54 54 26 13
the last two numbers are always random damage. Has this been implemented in the last patch?
Or is this something to do with weapon lore and not getting direct hits due to recoil?

Normally happens because there's a slight AoE on plasma as far as I know. Happens to me sometimes when the shots just don't all hit properly on a mob.

atleast I know melee is random. Incredible anoying :P

Melee is random and the plasma cannons have a small AoE effect, so if you don't hit the target directly but very close, it gets AoE damage (about the half of the normal damage or less, as you have seen).

its normally went you dont get a direct hit with the plasma and only clip the mob
