OK, i was watching Ghostbusters and Egon compares to the PKE reading to a twinkie, and holds up the a giant chip-like object.

So, as the thread title says, WTF is a twinkie? whats in it? is it a snack or what?

I'm guessing its an american term/food as ive never seen anything like that here.

EDIT: I googled it and i found this site: Twinkie experiment (http://www.rdrop.com/~jimka/text/twinky.html)

very amusing, but would be more funny if i knew what they were freezing/nuking/burning etc

ahh ok
a twinky is like a tiny cake filled with cream but yet not a pastry.

considered junk/snack cake = reason for all the fat americans as the are very cheap and can be bought by the truck load

burrito= mexican tortia or flat rolled out flour dough that has been cooked and filled with hell ......... anything chicken ,steak, beef, partially hydrogenated soy goop we love em

EDIT: dmon beat me to it :p

EDIT 2: Actually, isn't a twinkie only some sort of buncake with a very simple filling made of sugar and some other stuff?
The cream filled ones are called Ding Dong's or something I think, but the basics are the same...

Twinkies (http://www.twinkies.com/index.asp) are made by the Interstate Bakeries Corporation (http://www.corporate-ir.net/ireye/ir_site.zhtml?ticker=IBC&script=2100). There's a bit of history about the Hostess line here (http://www.twinkies.com/mediaroom/hostess.asp).

From the FAQ linked on Twinkie's site:

How were Twinkies invented?

Twinkies were developed as an inexpensive treat during the Depression. Jimmy Dewar, manager of the Schiller Park, IL bakery, noticed the pans for Hostess' Little Shortbread Fingers were only used during summer months. Dewar decided to make use of the pans throughout the year by filling them with golden sponge cake and banana filling. Today's vanilla filling was the result of a banana shortage during World War II. En route to show off his new idea in St. Louis, Dewar saw a billboard for "Twinkle Toe Shoes" - and the name Twinkies was born.

They're effectively sponge cake with a vanilla filling. Tasty, but there are limits as to how many one should eat in one sitting. :-)

Anyone else suspicious that IceStorm was actually a plant from the Twinkie corporation all along, just waiting for this thread to be open? :P

Americans like food we can eat with one hand so as not to distract us from flipping someone off it the need should come up.

Thus the Twinky and burrito were just bound to come up as favorite foods we like. Just think the other stuff we like the hotdog, one handed treat. The hamburger also can be eaten one handed.

Twinkies are gods gift to mankind.

Partake of them wisely my brethren, for if thouest partake of them to much... Thine ass will show.

Still with a lot of time my mum managed to get me both of the ghostbuster backpack things and i even got all of the Extreme ghostbuster figures ^_^

Lol I still have them in the loft along with all of my other kiddie junk I expect I will dig them out sometime for a laff :D
