ARE YOU GUYS SMOKING POTATOS?!

THEY ARE ROBOTS DANCING!

How often do you see that?

How often do you see that so bloody fluid?

How often do you see a robot capable of moving arms and legs without falling over, and looking amazing at the same time.

I kid you not, 50-60 years time we will have androids walking around as if they WERE human.

Amazing stuff.

And there fucking cute!

Pesimist.. in less than ten year's you could see scaled up desendat's of these idea's working in place's where human's don't want to..

though they got the right idea this time, small then scale up..

Because once you add all that onto them they 1) Wouldn't be able to move and 2) Such big targets that they'd completely lose any usefulness on the battlefield.

1 Hellfire/Titanium Sabot + 1 Robot= Lots O' Spare parts.

lol... I know we dont have the technology now, but later we will... a robot would have a lot better surviveability then a human... remeber you gotta get that armor peircing round to hit the robot in the right spot... unlike people where u hit em anywhere and they are ouf of action. The hell fire has to HIT the robot before it gets shot down by a deplted uranium vulcan cannon or by lasers (well, they are working on it... remeber I said future) A robot can also aim and fire much faster then a person can. It also depends on the situation.... who would u rather to into a cave to take out a bunch of fanatics? You, no matter how well trained you are, or a robot? For a non compliacted thing like that it could be a simple program like kill anything with a heart beat.. for complicated missions you would still need people until technology got better.

I was half kidding when I made my first comment but come on... coulda been something cooler then fucking dancing... why not some form of martial art? even if it was basic it woulds been much cooler.

Yeah, ive considered the military.... I like guns and stuff, and its great training for other jobs but I dunno if I wanna commit 4 years of my life, and Id have to give up games, least for boot camp... and then when i was out of boot camp id still have to play much less.... and I love it too much. But, yeah, ive considered it and havnt ruled it out yet.

Actually they have quite impressive balance and can do a lot more than that dance. They can't fight however as that would mean being able to adopt much less stable poses.

Clyde
15-01-04, 09:21
ya i seen those robots before, theyre not all that new. If you have time to look on google youll come up with some older "music videos" like movies of them singing and dancing on sonys jp website. It is amazing to see how these extremely small robots able to keep theyre balance. They have some type of image proccessor where they can look at a obstical and figure out a route in seconds then walk the path without bumping anything.

Samhain
15-01-04, 10:07
heh they are cool, but i get an urge to push one over, point and laugh :X

They can get back up when they fall over. Read Sony's site.

US is working on a 'Dog' (which is really a robotic mule) to help soliders carry stuff, but you can bet your ass as soon as they are any good they are going to turn them into a mobile weapons platform.

So why would it be any different with these (Least in Japan they make technology fun).

for the weaponsplatform "dog": i suggested that ages ago to implement it in neocron: so again: i want a cyberhound that follows my tank around and that can heal or sumthing like that, never mind the healing, i yust want a cyberhound that follows me around :P i dont care what he can or cannot i want a virtual pet :) maybe one that can be upgradable ...

Wow.... I've just seen it and it was incredible. I was expecting alot more jerky movements, but they were sweet as.

Zanathos
15-01-04, 11:55
Indeed those little things can do more than just dance.

As I said, they are able to reconize different people, perform conversations, get back up after falling down, avoid obsticals in thier paths, etc...

Hey guys, lets not forget the Toyota robot.

Its a life size machine that can walk, shake hands, wave, climb steps, etc... but it cant do as many things as those little robots and it cant talk.

But then again its also older than those little things.

BTW, the U.S. Military has been getting into robotic scouting units for quite some time now. I doubt they will put weapons onto these things for a little while.

Q`alooaith
15-01-04, 12:02
The US army has alread put weapon's onto remote vehical's, little buggy's kinda look like remote controled car's with a big gun on top..

The aim, fire support, you don't need to hit anything, just give enough fire so your boy's can do the job with less trouble..

We have all the technology to make these and make them usable except for one thing.....

a small high capacity power source. Once they develop that then we will see robots doing a lot of things you wouldn't believe them capable of now.

That or massively reducing power requirements. There was an article in Scientific American a few months back about reactive plastics that was very interesting. Less power, less weight, more control and stronger than traditional servo systems. I generally assume anything that gets into a rag like that is probably well on it's way to commercial development so we can expect a big leap forward sometime this decade IMO.

Nah. Just sit back until this is deleted.

That said, I quite like discussions such as this. Apart from the obviously extremist opinions, some can find it in them to post reasoned discussions about country politics. Certainly makes a change to "OMG NERF TEH SPYES!!"

Egeon
15-01-04, 20:47

So if the people here want to "discuss" such stuff (and judging from some posts some would like to :D) why not talk in a proper forum?

US tech is cool too, but these days its normally to see how it can kill someone or track them.

Watched the vid but not read the thread.

TBH it's not hard to make something balance and look like it should fall over, proper aplication of knowledge of forces, moments and centre of mass can resultin som pretty odd looking situations, just look at double decker buses, they go round corners at speeds which to the 'normal' person should tip it right over. Add gyroscopes and things are very hard to make to fall.
Note the width and flatness of the robot's feet, they are quite wide.

All that said, it is very impressive, just the engineer in me casting a critical eye.
