Ok, yesterday i was playing for the bigger part of the day and it
all went fine, actually now that i think about it, i dont think i even
got a single FRE during the whole day... Anyway i log on today,
started on the proto epic but the thing is, every 10-ish minutes
the screen freezez up completly, there is nothing i can do, can't
tab to windows, can't ctr+alt+del, nothing at all, and after about
10 seconds in freeze the computer restarts :/ sucky sucky...

I have not changed anything about my computer since yesterday

Specs:
AMD Athlon XP 1800+
1024 DDR RAM
GeForce3 TI550
Windows XP Proffesional

Still using the gfx drivers that came with the card... never had
any kind of problems with them

Has anybody had this problem or a similar one?

Check your CPU / Case temperature.

(Edit: That's not all it could be, naturally. If you're using Win XP,
go to Control Panel / System / Advanced / System and Recovery / Settings, and uncheck "Automatically Restart", and hopefully you will get a blue screen which you analyse for more help.)

NB: First post since 20-07-03! Now I just need some reasons to reactivate my account and I'll be back :p

MBM - http://mbm.livewiredev.com/

Don't know about GFX, although some board manufacturers bundle that kind of software with their products. You'd have to check with yours. Anyway, provided the fan is operational, it's unlikely to be a GFX heat issue.

Perhaps try running your comp for a bit with the side panel left off, see if you freeze as quickly.

sure but i need to see it in windows, so i can track the temp while
running neo and see if it's the temp that's causing the freeze...

Edit: @Cruzbroker: no i have had this system now for a month or
so and never had this problem untill today :/

Dude try this Program

http://www.hmonitor.com/

its prob the best around as it lets u add warnings to when ur Pro is runnin Hot. Also good if u have a Manual Fan speed adjusted, so u can check the current Rpms.

it runs in System tray and doesnt take up much Ram.

You have to make sure you select the right mobo board / manufacturer otherwise it doesn't know where to look for the info :) Incidentally, if you go straight into the bios after you crash, the temperature will be fairly similar to when you crashed.

Well, my NC freezes up suddenly because of onboard sound.
Very erratic problem, sometimes runs for hours, sometimes locks up every 10 minutes. I turned off sound and music in NC and no freezes since then.
Star Monkey (http://www.smallrockets.com/pc/starmonkey/index.htm) seems to have same problem, download the demo, if it freezes your snd sucks.
On my old computer I fixed up StarMonkey by replacing ISA card with SoundBlaster PCI. Too bad I don't have one now.
