i have herd so much about this.

but as i have only been playing 4 3 months i have never seen/herd of it or been there.

could some one kindly tell me what it is all about

Beta 4 was the 4th stage and final stage of beta before Neocron went gold and into retail.

Alpha stage... the initial stages of game development where anything can be changed, added, removed, basically its getting the game organized, usually this stage is closed and only a certain number of people may test it.

Beta Stage... the final stages of testing, almost everything has been added to the game and now players are testing it to fix bugs, glitches, exploits, balance issues, flaws in character AI or logic, etc... pretty much getting it ready for a workable product.
This can either be a closed beta or open to anyone that downloads and plays the game.

In this case, Neocron probably had a very short alpha because.....

There was beta 1, beta 2, beta 3, beta 4 then gold.

Gold (i.e. retail)... the game has gone through the alpha and beta stage, most bugs, glitches, exploits, balance issues, flaws in character AI or logic, etc... have been fixed or all of them have been.

But since this is an MMOG, the game evolves with time, reflecting the fact that there are 194 patches.......

If i was KK, id start DoY as version 200 :)

beta is a stage of testing in game development where either the entire public or a selection of people from all 'round the world can play to search for bugs and exploits and report those, to make sure they don't end up in retail (the finished game). Before beta there is an alpha stage, the 1st stage of testing in all game development and it is usually done by a VERY select group of people or even in-house.

Beta 4 was the 4th stage of beta, the open beta. Before that were 3 closed stages of beta, logically numbered 1, 2 and 3 :)

You hear so much about it cos it PWNED. No specialisation, everything was pretty balanced, OP wars were awesome, things in the game were still being discovered etc etc

Althought there were alot more bugs lol, but that's the idea of beta, to find bugs.

It was free too :)

it had - reasonably balanced classes

it had - Fatal Run Time errors, Sync Bugs, item loss bugs, char loss bugs, bugs bugs bugs bugs and some more bugs - but thats to be expected as it was a BETA :0

it had exploits... oh god did it have exploits, i doubt there was anyone playing the game who wasn't a billionaire. I remember levelling INT buy buying and selling expensive items with barter skill :)

all in all neocron right now is 10x better...

only thing i wish they would bring back from BETA is the skill balancing - you didn't have to specialise back then, almost everyone had wasted skill points in other skills - now every point is precious

basically everyone talks about beta is because thats when most of the peopel playing now came from, and it was also one of the funnest times in NC IMO.


the game has changed so much from then to now...
