Pentium 4 at over 5Ghz with liquid nitrogen cooling and temp of -196°C (http://www.tomshardware.com/cpu/20031230/index.html)

and I though it's hard to move in such temperature..
I want money too

"New in the computing industry, the Mini-Fridgeuter combines two of the most popular computing related items, the Mini-Fridge and Computer, not only can you now still continue your fragging while getting a drink, you don't even need to plug in any extra electrical devices!"

*Cough*

Anyway, that's pretty neat, and insane.

i cant understand why other parts of the system where not damaged by such low temperatures with the over flow from the liquid nitrogen.

couldn't be arsed to read it all, how long did it run stable for ?

Now, where did i put that big barrel of Nitrogen... :P

The other components can take about -60 C so if you make it solid and isolate it it would be ok. A swedish team made it in 2002 to speed a K6-2 and boosted over 1000% :D thats pretty nice the thing is that liquid nitrogen is a bitch to handle because you need special containers and those are shit expensive.

Lucky for them that ice does not lead electric

I read on there that a p4 outputs 8x more heat per square meter than a common household iron. I wonder how long it will be till someone straps together eight P4s and starts ironing their clothes while playing neocron. Or worse, some retard straps together 8 irons and tries to surf the internet.

He he he yea that dood need to be rich :) Why pay 120 $ * 8 when you can get a iron for 50$ :p

But then again sarcasm on high lvl ;)

Anyone know what hyperthreading actually does?
Well 5ghz thats one mean mother of a speed.

Actually something like this was done a couple of years ago as well, when the P4 1.8 ghz (or something) was released.

Some whackos used pure liquid hydrogen as a cooling measure for the processor and OC'ed it to 3.6 or so. Damn that was nasty!!!

Actually, boiling liquid nitrogen on the CPU gets it kinda too cold, electronics dont work properly anymore. Few peeps have been experimenting with cascade compressor cooling laterly.

What do you think happens if you freeze an Athlon 64 and Radeon 9800XT near -100 celcius? Take a look..

i remember when they did that on the screen savers....

although i dont think they went all the way to 5ghz...let alone get -190C

I've played around with liquid nitro cooling with a friend. An extremely rich friend. heh.

You can only make attempts because at such low temperatures the other components don't last long. There is no way to get a stable liquid nitrogen cooling computer for everyday use.

It gets a little interesting because the best way to stay safe using the stuff is to be naked. It will dissipate off your skin, but clothes will make it cling to you and give you frostbite.

Right now, a compressor cooled system is the best way to extreme overclock for long periods of time. It uses the same tech that keeps your fridge cold.

$10 says in two years, cold fusion will be invented by someone just trying to overclock their CPU to unreasonable speeds. :p

Seriously though, liquid nitrogen is cool as hell. I heard it only costs 5 cents per liter to make, but the containers to hold it are like big $$$'s. Where can i buy liquid nitrogen =D
