View Full Version : Fps?
i Upgraded my System From
AMD 1 GHz
365 MB Ram
80 GB HD
Geeforce 3 Ti 200
to
AMD 2 GHz
256 Mb DDR Ram
120 GB 7200 8MB Cache
MSI FX5600 256MB Graphics card
Running WIndows XP
And the FPS doesnt seem to have change a bit
What effects FPS?
Might have to do with the fact that you've got less RAM now, less RAM is generally a bad thing.
Otherwise... Are you sure you're running the latest drivers for all the stuff on your new/upgraded computer? That can influence performance quite a bit.

video card dont seem to do shit in neocron its all about cpu...
changed my ti440 to a radeon 9800 i gained like 5-10 frames at the most....
I upgraded my video card and Im getting about 20 more fps in the wastes. Its amazing how much better a person can be with 3 times the fps. ;)

More ram is for NC better then faster ram.

1. Changing from GF4 MX420 64Mb DDR to GF FX5600 XT 256 Mb DDR
3. Old = Athlon 1.3 Ghz New = XP2500 Barton/333FSB
4. Old = 768Mb PC 133 New = 768 Mb PC3200 DDR (Dual Channel)
2. Old = not sure 200Mhz ?? New = 400Mhz
FPS increased by 20% but before I had big jumps in Warzones and P1 now Im pretty constant - Expecting bigger increase next week when new GFX card comes
I get the same as you, and my setup is:
Athelon 1ghz
256mb Ram
30Gb HD
MSI FX5200 128mb Gfx Card
Windows XP (no service pack 1)
I know I need a general upgrade, but I also get graphical glitches too. Warcraft 3 won't run in 1024x7** mode, as the screen "overlaps" about 5 times. Then again my monitor is 10 years old.
If, while running NC, your hard disk is constantly making noise, then you need more RAM. NC is a RAM hog. I had 512MB and it still hit the disk way too often. Upgrading to 1GB fixed the problem. DDR vs SDR doesn't matter when the game doesn't fit into physical memory. If the game starts swapping to disk, any advantage DDR may have had over SDR goes out the window. Disk is far slower than memory.
I'd upgrade to 512MB or 1GB first, then go from there.
Yeah look at this though
Neocron Requirements
Operating System: Windows 95B/98/ME/2000/XP
Processor: Pentium II 400
Memory: 64 MB RAM
CD-ROM: 4x or faster
Graphics Card: DirectX 7.0 3D with 8 MB RAM
Sound Card: 100% DirectSound compatible
HD Space: 1 GB free space
Connection: At least 56K modem and Internet connection, ISDN/Cable/DSL recommended

Besides, those requirements were probably given out by CDV, whom we all loath and fear. :P
This sux that we should all have to have super systems to play neocron effectivly without being outplayed at PvP due to shitty FPS:mad:

Technically, NC will run on those requirements. You'll probably get sub-10 FPS most of the time, and your hard disk will be grinding away like mad, but it'll run.
Realistically, I'm telling you that you need a minimum of 512MB to bring a machine up to a point where the hard disk doesn't influence FPS most of the time. If you want to eliminate hard disk impact on in-game performance, move up to 1GB. If you're able to run NC long enough that it leaks to near 1GB in size, more power to you, but I don't think anyone has been able to do that as of yet. The game usually crashes before that point is reached.
One thing to try without upgrading your memory is turning off vegetation. I have not bothered using vegetation in months and the game is smooth for me, even with AA and AF turned up.

Run in windows mode as well. Helps FPS greatly.

i went from Voodoo 3 3000 to GF4 MX440
i got virtually 0 FPS gain
went from 650MHz processah to 1.6GHz
BOOM! i gained about 6 FPS
go figure.
FPS itself is not a helpful guage without knowing the resolution and the hardware settings (FSAA, etc).
Today i downgraded my box from TI 4280/GF4 to MX440/GF2, didnt notice much drop in framerate.

this will definatly help ;) this is by far one of the best explinations of wut wil help ya with fps, http://www.tomshardware.com/graphic/20000704/index.html
although your system seems like it hsould be running good fps by most standards anyhow, wuts your average fps btw?

Vegetation. Turn it off. I turned it on at Nemesis - FPS was 21. Turned it off, it shot up to 62.
Turn off vegetation.

usually i run 800x 600.. but ive tried running 1280x1024 and only difference is that if i remove all vegetation detail then fps is the same...
so if u get heavy lag ijn wasteland zones.. try setting vegetation detail to lowest.. but i like having nice things to look at so i recommend just using a resolutin of 800x600 or 1024x768.
hmmmm maybe someone can help me with this...
i bought an ati card some weeks ago and i noticed that it never goes above 62 fps in nc o_O
only when i play in windowed mode i get up to 200 fps .. ( in my apt for example )
i already tried like 5 different drivers.. but it didnt help =/
anyone knows how to fix this ? :(

That's normal, at least for me - the 9700 Pro did the same thing. You start the game at some outrageous FPS number, like 200 or 300, then it drops down to the sub-100 level and stays there most of the time. I run at 4x AA and 16x Performance AF, High Quality textures and whatever else, vsync disabled.
For what it's worth, Cat 3.10 seems to be crashing less than previous Cats were.
wooot
thanks deacon =)
turning vsync off under direct3d worked :D

Well, in my app I get upto 500 FPS, and in the wastelands I average 45 to 180 FPS.
I run NC in 1024x768 with 4xAA and 4xAS, with all ingame detail on maximum except vegetation at zero. Vsync is set off of course.
I run:
XP2600 (overclocked)
512MB Corsair XMS3200 (Overclocked)
Radeon 9700 modded to 9700pro, and using Omega drivers (card is overclocked)
HDD is a WD with 8MB cache
Win2K Pro
When i press "escape" to logout, my 10 second timer only takes about 2 seconds, before im back at the login screen.
I have had this PC for some time, and it is by no means an uber rig, but if set up properly, you can get mad FPS in games with it. For NC tho, graphics card does shit. Overclocking my g-card gave about +5 FPS, overclocking the FSB and memory yielded a good +30 FPS.

I had a Geforce 4 mx 440
and 256 SDram.
Fps was about 20 to 30 if i was damn lucky :p.
Upgraded my 3d card to ATI Radeon 9600 and added an extra 512 Ram stick.
I now have almost tripple performance.
Fps is about 40 to 55 in normal zones (it jumps up and down)
20 to 25 in plaza 1 (if luck is with me :p)
from 8 20 and right up to 66 in wastes (depends on how many Plants are their)
and in my TH appy a whopping 76 Fps (it jumps but its still sexy)
and in OP wars (depending on what OP) I have something like 20 maybe 18 sometimes 30 dpends :)
Matty.
Computer =
1.5 Gigs
640 Ram DDR 400 I think
Radeon Excaliber 9600
Pentium 4
Windows XP Home
etc etc :)
