ok, my machine is pretty damn tight, I check every week with spybot etc, virus scans, the lot, only websites i visit are nc.com neocron.ems.ru cnn bbc and my own one plus the bf1942 forums, thats pretty much it, i have msn messanger and ICQ and atm that looks like the hole, im on a firewall etc aswell, yet i havent checked for about 2-3 weeks, just did a check with spybot and its picked up 17 new gatorentriesin my registry O_o! ive got a prog that zap's all popups so i doubt its from them aswell . . .

no new software installed in months that i can think of. ...

cheers for the heads up. Anyone know how to get rid of kazaa fully but not re-installing windows? that has shitloads of spyware after I got it I checked it out with spybot and shit i had 144 accounts of gator mysearch and gain 8| and i deleted them and kazaa wouldnt qork unsurprisingly.

A little off topic......

I was doing maintenance on my and my sons computers, while he's at his moms for Xmas.

I found zero problems on my PC, but I found over 100 instances of some type of spyware on his, 5 viruses(3 were just trojans), and he also needed 16 critical updates for windows.....

well first uninstall kazaa, but then you have to do searches for how to install each type of spy/adware. but becareful, some ad/spyware, if removed incorrectly, will lock up your internet connection.

And I have found the answer! Ad-Aware 6.0 by Lavasoft!! Its awesome, just cleared 1798 entries of adware, spyware, malware, younameitware. Thought it seemed appropriate to post here....oh yeah its free... website is www.lavasoft.com and you need to dl build 181.

Kazaa = shit. It contains 4 spywares (GMT.exe , asm.exe, wupdater.exe and CMESys.exe). I always remove the shit when my sister install kazaa, then kazaa wont work since "it must have spywares installed to be able to run", then she reinstall kazaa and I get spywares again, I remove them again and she reinstalls again and we keep doing that all the damn time.

Alternatively, if you're really that paranoid, build yourself a dirt cheap system, with the cheapest gear you can get. Design it purely towards surfing, and use it for all net-based activities, apart from gaming and whatnot.

I have one that cost £400 to build, most of which was on hard-drive space for downloading stuff.
