I was just wondering when people who STILL have active accounts started playing.
Late beta 4 during my "OMG free beta games rule!" phaze.
Of course I only registered on the forums to bitch about drones...
Started in Beta 4. Joined when Beta 4 wasnt DLable through KK's site. Had to go through FTP's to get the files. Think it was 3-4 files. Big ass files though.

EDIT : Yup, just found the original letter inviting me into beta 3 - I know Ithaqua's got his letter framed, and he started in November / December 2001 when beta 2 was just ending and the only people who had the beta 3 client were beta 2 testers :cool:

Never got invited to Beta 3 but i was lurking around on the forums back then, started playing on the first day of beta4 in the UK, 14th of august 2002 if i remember correctly, got my beta client from the cover DVD of PCFormat.

Well, I wanted to see how many new people are coming into the game, and staying long enough to get involved in the community, sofar it only looks like vets are here. I'm gonna formatt, so I'll be back on to reply in an hour or so (if everything goes right...)

Just missed the end of Beta 3. Waited and waited then got to DL the files to get into Beta 4.
Tested in the closed Beta 4.
Been playing retail since a few days or so after they started shipping to the U.S.A. Not sure the exact time, but I think it was in November O2 for me. That distribution setup was whacked.
Edit: Good to see that your format worked out all right. I love reinstalling everything. not :rolleyes:

and beta4 was open the last couple of months.. i just downloaded the gig of files... and off i went...
was hella cool.. comin down that elevator and hearin the sounds of the city for the first time.. i had an apt in a plaza sect.. coulda been plaza3 i think...

What version of beta you played doesn't magically give you some sort of skill that no one else has ffs.
I coulda started playing this game last month and I would be able to fucking own half the 'beta2/3 vets' that ive seen fight.
Ive been playing since beta 4 without stop. I think the only "nubies" are those who state they are vets because they played since beta 2/3, but have quit once or multiple times.
You're not vets - you're quitters who have come back for a second attempt.

begining of sep, beta 4. freind got me into it, funnily enough he quit in beta due to the constant crashes etc.

Being Vet does not mean that you pwnz 0wnz r0x0r sux0r everyone in PvP. It's much more. It's sad that you see it pins down only to PvP skills. If "vetness" is only a term, why does military have leaders .. old ones that you as a new trainee and much younger would pwnz them? Think about it.

August/September 2002, blame Towneh for my presence in the game.
Bought my copy on 10th December and got the 6 weeks free offer for subscribing before the end of January.
June / July 2002 - Beta 4 (when there was sometimes 700 peeps in a server) :D Now THAT was laggy...
A friend of mine got me into it as well, but he hasn't really played much in Retail.

Beta4 - right at the start of the "2 Week" Open beta that lasted for what... months?
Remember seeing some beta3 vet at an Op run past us to the gogo - put on PA, then obliterate all 8 or so of us oO
Also remember seeing Flyl put on PA - as a PE oO

Beta 4, got the game on the cover of PC Format on the DVD, was practically foaming at the mouth when I got it home :D
I would have joined beta 4.. but fileplanet really annoys me with the long wait, then the possibility of your 1.4gb download messing up half way and another long wait etc.
So I waited until UK retail and got it in December.

Beta 3...I was rather overwhelmed and couldn't find any nice people to tell me what the hell was going on...haha...so I took a break till beta 4 where I was taken in by the nice people of TeCH| :D

OMG You gotta be kidding me ? Beta 2 and 3 had the most helpful people in it, that and zonechat was server-wide so it was always possible to say something and have helpful folk hear it and come to help out ! Come beta 4, that's when it all degenerated due to the mass influx of players and not enough ppl from beta 3 were able to help the droves of folk who arrived...
Man, I find it hard to believe you were in beta 3 because of what you've said... It's just so the opposite of why many of us really loved that beta :)
Throw me a bone here... gimme something to make me believe you were in B3 :p

haha...believe it or no...I was in beta 3...as I said I was rather overwhelmed...I was coming into the NC beta from only having played Asheron's Call...and it's a significant difference...I couldn't figure out shit dude...I can't even remember if I figured out the whole chat thing...put simply it was a culture shock...I got in game...tried playing a few times...managed the sewer deal, but only enough to die...I ran around and took some screenies for me since it was so different and I thought the city looked pretty killer...I would have played more in Beta 3 but I was forced to format my comp due to some problems with some crap that I can't remember now...and when I tried to reinstall NC I found that a tiny tiny hole had been punched in one of my disks...I tried to contact the NC people at the time but I didn't even get a responce saying "fuck off, liar" and people say help is no good today...haha...so I was rather forced to wait till B4...but that worked out well...DX-Defender, DX-Warlock, Kayle, Val and the others that were in TeCH| when I joined helped me learn alot of the game and were the main reason I stayed in...haha...even if that sneaky Austrian, Tichondrius, was part of the conspircy with his crazy speak in my apt that one time...:p
2 months of Beta 4 and pretty much the whole of retail here. Answered Beta 4, as that's pretty much the case.
beginning of retail, would of been BETA4 but i couldnt be bothered downloading the client with my then crappy 56k connection, so had to wait til broadband, by then though the beta end was announced so i did bother, then they went and extended it damn them.

Ach well my first days in beta 3 were quiet, and lonesome - I started in Tech Haven, one of the new areas with beta 3. I spent almost a week wandering around trying to figure out where everyone was... I could hear them all on zonechat, just couldn't find them !!
After chatting with them over the course of that first week, everyone figured out I must have started in one of the new areas, and eventually they sussed that I was in TH. Of course hardly anyone knew the way to Neocron because wasteland maps were just starting to be introduced, and only a handful of folk had made the journey to see the new areas. I was told 'go south, you'll reach Neocron and find the rest of us'.
I went south. I died a few times (didn't know much about levelling back then and the TH cores had even less in them than they do now...) but eventually I made it as far south as anyone could possibly go. Explored a bit and finally found the gates of Neocron ! I was impressed - truly ! Went into the entrance, looked around, and thought to myself 'this is a dump... what's up with this place ???'. Then a PSI Acolyte burnt me to death :D
I'd arrived in OZ 9 of all places - and it turns out people were just as unfamiliar with the outzone as they were with the wastelands as a whole, only a few people could give me directions through OZ to the city itself. I guess it was funny that if I'd gone one wasteland zone to the right (or left depending on whether you're facing the entrance or looking at the worldmap we have now :p ) I would have found my life much easier ;) I was determined though and eventually made it back there... and kept dying each time I got to a new section of OZ :p Eventually a private eye came to find me since he knew his way around and tried to resurrect me - he failed, then he buggered off, muttering something about an LE... He told me to stay there, he wouldn't be long. Ten minutes later he was back and I noticed his name on the rpos had changed from yellow to green. The PE tried to resurrect me again, and this time succeeded - then escorted me all the way to the main city itself...
Talk about an eye-opener, I think I stood there in awe for an hour ! It looked fantastic, and to top it off there were people - lots of people ! I started noticing that many of them had 'local>' prefixed before what they said - I didn't even know how to switch to local despite having played for a week :) Well as soon as they all figured out I was a newcomer, they mobbed me, giving me items, money, making sure to give me helpful tips about where to hunt, ensuring I'd activated a generep so I wouldn't have to do that awful journey again :p
I'll probably never forget my first few weeks in Neocron - they were complete shell-shock to my system, I never knew that an mmorpg could be so radically different from everything I had experienced so far !

I downloaded Neocron Beta in...hell can't even remember, but it was 2001 I think.
Didn't really care for it (space sim junkie at the time). Gave my account to a friend. Started back again at launch of US retail.

Reefie - you were lucky to have had so many peeps help you at the start. My 1st day in NC, I shouted in Zone "HELP!!!!" to replies of "Fuck off n00b" and "'Cos you shouted, No!"... And that was about all the help I got so had to read manuals and stuff on the web until I started to get to know peeps - I didn't really understand so many aspects of the game until a helpful Drom Herder called Lexxuk came to help me one time - I think I had just killed someone called Applejacks, who took it personally and tried to kill me over and over, only to fail most times :D I stood around calling him names and such like - Lexx joined in :D Lexxy was also like my personal bank, chucking me the odd 2 bil here and there :D
After that I kinda picked it up as I went along.

Yup, that's what happened in beta 4 - things went downhill because of the influx of so many folk and not enough b2 / b3 players to go around and help them all, during beta 3 we didn't have a manual, the best guide we had was the FAQ on NeocronOnline's site so player to player help was considered the norm :)
As for the 2 bill comment... sheesh, I'm so glad they never brought cash cubes back into the game LOL !
The important thing is we all had fun, whether we started in beta 2, 3, 4 or retail. Sure things have got a bit stagnant, which is why so many of us have simply kept paying our way these last few months in the hope that the storyline will become more interactive, and provide much more than just the usual OP battles, PvP, and levelling :)
No this isn't me bashing NC, you yourself got bored and left for a bit, so I know you can appreciate what I'm saying Rincey my man :D

I started In beta4, around the time I broke up with one of my gfs. Didn't have anything to do so I decided, hey, why not download the 1.4 gig file and try it out :p

Started in Feb, I remember being pissed cus if i'd started in Jan i woulda got 2 more free weeks :lol: This was my 1st and only MMORPG, only reason I tried it out was cus i read a review on a website and it looked pretty cool being cyberpunk and fps style cus i cant stand fantasy shit like everquest that stuff just aint for me

i started early beta 4
got retail as soon as it hit US selves ( maybe i should say shelf? due to the fact every place i went to either did not have it or had 1 copy and 1 copy only ;P )
End of August. No OMG BETA KROO kickbacks for me :o
I started 3 or 4 days after Fileplanet released the download to everyone, not just the subscribers....

I have been all over the place (MMORPG ADD :D ) but I started my Neocron adventure (and oh man, what a trip it was) about a year ago. I played solid for about four months, but then my friend who I had brought into the game convinced me to play EQ... effectively draggin me away from NC =\
I bought NC like two days before Christmas, wasnt supposed to open it till Christmas day.. but I was too damn naughty and couldnt resist :p
I'm not playing NC at the moment (but i've been lurking the forums, looking forward to the re-release immensely- gonna bring some friends) but i'm goin to reactivate the day BDOY hits the shelves.
By the way, my one and only beef with the game was the lack of player customization... hows that look these days? Did they add any player made stuff in?

Theyve added maarten's icons etc for spells, theirs also some other new iceons, changed to colour of PA's, personally i dont like that, as now your class and subskill is colour coded, HC PA is grey/black, MC PA is blue. PPU PA is blue, APU PA is red. Pistol spy PA is blue, black for rifle see ?

I believe I was the only PE to wear PA during beta after the wipe when they removed the medic bottles. I think Babylon Jones was gonna but crashed just after they killed the auth servers at the end of beta.
