it is believed by some that the 3 great pyramids of giza correspond to the belt of orion. a line of 3 stars, with one offset by a few degrees, the 3 pyramids are also in a line, with the 3rd offset by roughly the same degree.

however, it was also shown that you can make any collection of objects on earth correspond to some group or collection of stars, given the number of stars out there.

in other words, the placement of the pyramids at giza is almost certainly random, however the fact that some academics have read connections with the stars into their placement shows a lot more about the way we think than about the builders of the pyramids.
