Cool setting, cool story, cool classes, lame battle system, no PvP = not me.

I played beta btw.

well as for PvP i'm sure its supposed to be implemented in the future. though atm i just need another game type to play. i won't be canceling NC to play it. i find this game type quite amusing. though i wouldn't consider it to be one of player skill.

Played for 2 minutes past the charcter creation and deleted it. I needed the 2 Gb it took up to store some porn

I would not bother with Horizons it is heading in the same path Neocron did at retail. Its still full of HUGE bugs, really bad lag issues, and some of the cities are really bugged like Tazoon. My laptop(which is the best you can buy from Alienware) comes to an almost complete stop in Tazoon and other large areas. I do however run everything at almost max settings. Which brings me to another point. The graphics aren't that good. There isn't enough mobs, you can walk for 2 hours and not run into one single mob! Mobs fall through the ground, hit you from 50 meters away (I have a screenshot of one hitting me from 120 meters, not a range mob.) The combat system is not very rewarding and boring. Leveling is tedious, boring, not rewarding enough. Played both dragon and two legged races. That game has to many issues for retail. I would not recommend anyone playing until about 3 or 4 months after retail. The tradeskill system though is awesome. :) The who build your own "house thing" or "city thing" isn't very interesting either. Horizons seems like it would of been neat to play but if nothing changes for retail than I wont bother. Than again I know they were holding back things so it doesn't spoil it for the testers like dragons growing, flying dragons and stuff. :) If they fix all the bugs I ran into in it like: Ghost mobs (these are mobs you have killed but still manage to hurt your, or ones that you cant see), falling through things, mobs disappearing, mobs hitting you from any range regardless if they are melee or range, more rewarding loot (all you get is resources, formulas, broken weapons) than I may think about playing it. :)

Everything Kasumi said is true.

Beta'd it for a month and a bit.

I ordered it and will give it a try. I am somewhat discouraged that perhaps for DOY we will have to start new chars so I feel there is not much point in working on my present chars in NC if they will be wiped or useless in a few weeks time
- may be just a rumour but have not heard anything to the contrary -
will not cancel my account yet and probably need my neocrack but I am shopping around atm

I think it would be a very bad idea for KK to wipe the servers, most people would be pretty pissed at losing there characters that they have worked hard on and cancel there account

I know i would.

They closed beta? Wow. It still crashed out everytime ICQ or Jabber went off on my computer. I got a kick out of the character creation....almost gives you motion sickness :)

Horizons is (very) good for people who like DAoC-style MMORPGs and that are into PvM. If you like a fast battle system and PvP don't even bother trying it.

DAoC has a fast battle system and a hell of alot of pvp on the pvp servers. More then Neocron for sure, solely because there are NO bullshit rules or restrictions...aka nothing like soullight or faction system.

Anyone can be killed, any level, anywhere, anytime. Without exception. That means all out pvp and no roleplay. And unlike most neocron carebears think, it actually works. Sure noobs die, but not really al the time. There are as many anti-pk guilds as there are pk guilds, so it works out.

Unfortunately, the pvp isn't exactly skill based...once you know your routine of spells and whatnot to land on the guy, thats all you do...over..and....over......again.

There apparently is PvP from what I have been told, but it's clan only.
And I don't think you can gank.

If my ISP was working correctly I'd be pre-ordering it now. As it is I will wait until that improves and will likely start playing horizons. Sure it doesn't have much pvp or fun combat, so what, I'll just leave that for games that can do it well, such as bf1942 or unreal or half life etc.

What people have said so far..

it's partially true.

The game was in debug mode the whole time and the file system and networking was unoptimized. I had serious performance issues with the beta but they archived their files and it works much better now, I would compare it to how anarchy online runs now (not at launch). Speaking of which, AO launch ran so much worse than horizons EVER did in beta. Although I didn't beta SWG, many players had said that SWG was much worse in beta stage than horizons.

Content was purposely limited and maxed, again for testing. The beta world was quite empty but they will be increasing the population considerably to deal with a public release. Additionally, we didn't see all the mobs or all the items.

The beta has a very small portion of the game compared to the retail. Do not let a beta review of the game, as if it's some retail launch, affect your opinion. Best let game reviewers or people who have played the retail product tell you that.

Since most of the ppl I know who have been in Horizons beta have told me it's a very promising game (if you can live without PvP) and most of them have preordered it . I've preordered it too.
I may be away from Neocron for some time, but after DoY be launched based on how thing be here by then, I may come back.
