How did you choose your name?
For me I wanted to construct + use drones.
So I figured - Gizmo
But I needed a name too so I ended with - Jack
GizmoJack - TAaaDA!! :cool:
Makes you wonder what Nidhogg Stands for o_O
I just started out with James Folsom, which I took from a book*. Then figured having the rest of my characters have their first names start with J and with the last name Folsom would be amusing, which is why there's currently James, John, Jim and Jake Folsom hanging around in the world.
*Feet of Clay, by Terry Pratchett. Cookie for the person who actually manages to find out who James Folsom is.
Hmmm than my advice is you log JohnFolsom and check out the DATA forum. Recent Big change.

When i started my char i wanted a propper and mature name
so my CS name Catastrophy (yes i know it ends with E) wouldent do it!

Smith is ok if u add something to it
so i decided to make a name using all of my names m.v.s
aka Matthew.v.smith
it seems propper and smart but nothing special :)
just meh.

Nidhogg or Nidhoggr is the Dragon, which inhabits the underworld Niflheim {dark world} in Norse mythology.
The name Nidhogg has been variously translated as 'striking full of hatred' and 'dread biter'.
Living by the root of Yggdrasill the World Ash, in a pit of serpents, Nidhogg feeds on the bodies of the dead at Hvergelmir {the bubbling cauldron} the spring in Niflheim which is the source of the rivers of the world. When not feeding upon the dead Nidhogg gnaws at the root of Yggdrasill and sends taunting messages to the eagle perched in its high branches via the squirrel Ratatosk. Ratatosk in turn brings the eagles taunts back to Nidhogg.
In the act of gnawing the root, Nidhogg joins the four stags Dainn, Dvalinn, Duneyr and Durathor who graze the leaves and bark of Yggdrasill higher up.
Nidhogg rises at Ragnarok, bringing up the corpses of the dead to join battle. The dragon however survives to continue its existence in the new order that follows. Sources have suggested that Nidhogg's continued presence in the new world is to provide an evil balance to the new good. This could simply be an aspect of the christian projection of the dragon as evil and I leave the reader to decide in their own mind.

well for my monk(Ezza) i used my nick name.
for my 2 tanks Diabolus Decor and Consecro Animus, i just went the route of latin names.
Diabolus Decor = Devils Grace
Consecro Animus = Cursed Soul
funny that i have them setup so the DG name is my heavy tank and my CS named tanks is my melee tank
my PE took a while to name, in the end i stuck a . at the end so its Ezza. :)
and also i think all the mods names are from Norse Mithology
well nidhogg wasnt a dragon just a big serpant which can be translated as a dragon and this has nothing to do with christianity its before the christians took over and all

edit : oh yeah the lavode after agerne comes from a book i read. where the lavodes is an elite Mage/warrior corps that protects an the world from some godlike creatures.

For my forum account, I think elves are cool and some people tell me that I have a god complex, so ElfinLord was born.
For my monk on Saturn, same thing basically, so ElfGod was born.
For my PE on Saturn, I used the name that my fiancee and I had picked out for our daughter (when we have one)Keira Jade
For my other PE on Saturn, Quistis Trepe, because I actually liked Final Fantasy VIII. :D
For my monk on Pluto, my affection for elves and I have also been called a freak, so PsiFreak came into existence.
For my constructor spy on Pluto, I used a J.R.R. Tolkien elfin name generator, and thus Elan Amendir was born.
Well Saza is a mispelling of my real name. I was playing Zelda: OoT (greatest game ever) and I got as far as "Sa", when I missed the m and hit z. Delete was five or six spaces away, so I just shoved an A on the end and the name stuck..... Now I am Saza on everything except Tribes 2, where I am SaZa_MaN. OH yeah, and I was Sazaman in Beta 4. Those were the days...

On RTCW my name was Fatswinny but that sucked and then my dad came in and said ehhhh i is knowing a better name Sir Ramic Hobbs (Ceramic hobbs) i thought that was genius so it has been my name through firearms RTCW and now NC. My PPU Masta Blasta Came with my game as bought it of a friend for a tenner he was a level 33 APU and this was about a year ago. MoSHeR is my tanks name simply because at School i get called a mosher and Spoon Lover my Cst'er totally random

and to get on topic, mine is obvious, but, i've been using it since '97.
My first char was a spy named Scipher, which I got from Cypher from the Matrix, but I figued Cypher was a boring name so I changed the spelling. A while later I created a tank, everyone calls me Sci so I figured I would keep that part, the kar came from the word Psyker in Warhammer 40k, even though I don't really like Warhammer. ;)
Next was my pistol PE, I couldn't be bothered to think of a cool last part so he's just Sci. I briefly made a melee tank called Braveheart (William Wallace was taken) to do the BioTech epic, after I got my Moveon and PP resistor I deleted him and created my APU monk. I was going to call him Sci Monk, so I had the same pronunciation as Psi Monk but spelt different. I did actually make Sci Monk on Pluto but deleted him and made a rifle PE called Scipher again. Anyway, I decided not to use the name Sci Monk, and I called him Alaka Zam instead. I have discovered since then that there is a Pokemon with the same name, which is more than a little bit disappointing.

My name comes from the irish name Kieron, which was stolen from me by a dev in my old game (Ultima Online (http://uo.stratics.com/news/QuestandEventNews.shtml#newsitem1068945687,18109,)). So I took up Keiron, and have stuck with it ever since. The rest of my names (other then Trogdor) are just things I dreamed up one day.
Years ago I played Magic the Gathering (stop laughing!) and always thought drakes were really cool. I've always loved dragons and they are these uber tiny ones :cool: so it's been my screen name since.
I needed a name to use on AIM and sick of drake006 I copied off everyones stupid 2k (y2k) names and created Drake6k lol .... but I forgot my password the other day so I'm drake9k now :(
My real life name is Jack...

Anyway, Ive been using the nick "Parnassus" like forever its the
name of a mountain (cant remember exactly where, either in italy
or greece I think...) and means stuff like "tall" "strong" etc.
Actually I *think* that I got that name from some assamite in the
vampire card game o_O Its a little to arabic/fantasy to fit for
cyberpunk and I also wanted to make a female char for once. So I
ripped the name of one of the best PKers on a MUD I played
years ago, I always associated the name with fear so it felt good,
hence "Rade" was alive again :)
Ive also been using the nick "Bombtrack" which I probably got
from the Rage Against the Machine song but Ive been using it for
so long that Im not really sure. Bombtrack Ive mostly used in
future/combat based games, and I would have kept using that
nick in Neocron if I would have made a tank, but I went PE so it
didnt really fit.
In planetside someone had stolen both Rade and Bombtrack (but
only on the server I played on all through the beta, those two
nicks were open on all other servers o_O) so I went
with "Depthcharge" in Planetside. Depthcharge I got from AO, we
were a trio of Atrox Soldiers named Bombtrack (me), Depthcharge
and Chaosengine. We didnt think of it when we made the chars
but it was pretty cool when we noticed how stylish our names
were together and how menacing it looked when we went on PK
sprees :D
Also when I was dev/gm on the MUD Aarchon all those years I
went by the nick "Drexl", robbed from the movie True
Romance... "who or what is a Drexl?".
In Daoc I played alot under the name "Uhl Belk" which is the
stone king in some really crappy fantasy books, I roleplayed him
as a kobold with a serious attitude problems and delusions of
grandeur which was hella fun, managed to get rich when I was
like lvl2 and threatened some bigass lvl50 trolls that Id break
their spines if they so much as looked at me the wrong way, then
there was some part about robbing them blind as well. They
were amused I guess. Oh yeah he was afraid of water as well,
refused to swim, which some people thought was a pain in the
ass in groups as you tend to do that every now and then in
DaoC :D
So, Its pretty much: Parnassus - Rade - Bombtrack - Drexl -
Depthcharge - Uhl Belk
Oh and I play as Sideshow Bob on saturn, from simpsons.

Gokou for my Tank, big dumb strong mofo probably my strongest character if I practised with it.
My Spy, Iasius, from the greatest book series in history, The Night Dawn Trilogy, Iasius was a concious being, made of some special material, basically served as a biological spaceship, very intelligent.
It's where they got the idea for Pilot on that sci-fi show called Farscape.

He's mostly just an unimportant side character, though I originally choose the name because I had taken up poking as a tradeskill, which is sort of fitting.

About two years ago I used to spike my hair up. One day a teacher came over, prodded my hair, and said "wow, it's like a merringue, all fluffly and light".
So that quickly became Merringoo. However, when my email account for Merringoo became flooded with porno-spam I decided it was time for a new start. So a few letter switches later I was Mingerroo.
Finally, as that is a complex and difficult word to type correctly, I became the abbreviation Mingoo, which has started to be nabbed by other people (the thieving SoBs :p) on various games I try to sign up for.
Thats it really, before that I was called "PaddyPants" because at the time I kept doing an Irish impression whilst wearing pants on my head. that was a slightly more bizarre phase. :D

P.S. And Glorfindel, although it is kind of silly to call people idiots just because of their name, it is also very silly to call things gay because you don't approve of them. In fact it is kind of rude. It is like saying Gay = Wrong in this sentence. But yeah, your name is YOUR name, and who cares what other people think of it.

This serpent is always bickering with the eagle that houses in the top of the tree. It lies on Nastrond in Niflheim, were it also eats corpses to sustain itself. Nidhogg is not the only serpent whose task it is to destroy the World Tree. Other serpents include Graback, Grafvolluth, Goin and Moin.

how i named Cred..
I like alot of old books, dealing with druids, nights, old Irish kings. but along time ago in a book where i forgot the name, think it was about Cormac McArt or Fionn MacCumhail, but one of the guys there was named Cred (kreed). I since then always sort liked the name and used it alot in rpg charicters etc.
I thought this would translate well in Neocron, as the name could be either taken as Kreed, or as in Cred, like street cred or Cred short for Credits like money. anyway thats why I named Cred:o

Anywayz, my name comes from System Shock (obviously). I just felt like adding a jr on it and the Gr states my country of origin (Greece of course :))

When i went attempted to play my first game online (quake 1) I didnt know what to put. So i was hmmm im gonna kill people.... and usualy crazy people kill other people... but crazy killer didnt sound right so i ended up on psycho killer(killa if i feel like being ghetto)
Who knows why i would stick with a name i made up when i was like 13 but i guess it grew on me and im not creative enough to come up with anything else that isnt already used by 100 other people out there.
Heh. Good idea for a thread. Personally it depends on my mood at the time I make the character (which is when I chose the name). I am a big fan of anime. So if I'm in an anime-type mood, I'll pick the name of an anime character that best suits what I intend to do with the character and the kind of personality I intend the character to have. (If any of you watch anime and play Pluto, you probably have a good idea what my Pluto char is) :D
Other times I'm in a roleplaying mood and I create or invent a name that sounds good. It can be a normal human name that has a good ring to it, or it can be a fictional fantasy name like "Lareolan" here. Lareolan was a name I came up with for an elven mage I made in a D&D game a long time ago. Came up with the name on the spot but liked it, so I tend to use it on forums and such.
And yet other times I might be in a fantasy mood entirely, so I name my characters after a character from a book (same routine as with my anime-type mood) :D
I'm sure many of you on Uranus back in the day have at least met:
Sharon Apple (Spy constructor)
Nanako (The amazing nurse/PPU/Poker)
Dr. Washu (The crazy scientist - researcher)
Haruka (Just a Japanese name I liked, non-anime related rifle PE)
Armitage III (A tank I deleted a long time ago)
On Saturn I have appeared as:
Palin Majere and Fistandantilus (PPU and APU respectively, from DragonLance series of books. Haven't played them long before I decided to quit. Before I couldn't take it anymore and came back *sigh*).
Anyway, there were plenty more names out there. Most unknown as with many characters I usually either didn't play them much or tended to stick to myself or only played them late at night when no one was around to see them.
BTW, if anyone figured out who I am on Pluto and at all care, give me a PM with your guess? I'm just curious if I'd get any PMs at all.

Playing Diablo II hardcore. Each time a char died = new name. After a while you have used up pretty much all of them. Start look around the monitor and what have we got here : a soft animal present from my girlfriend. Which in swedish is "Mjukisdjur".
Damn thing got stuck after that...

I got my first name (Phobos) from quake 3, although i did a little research shortly after and found out the Phobos is actually the son of Ares the (greek?) god of war, his Brother is Deimos, and toghter they are fear (Phobos) and terror (Deimos).
i wanted to save both, but i was to slow >_<
it took a little longer to come up with a name for my rifle-pe, but then i though he will be the last thing some people wil see, so Omega was born.
well, and my monk, he's APU, so he's dangerous, but that would sound stupid on its own, so i though about something that would make it sound even more stupid and DangerKlaus was born ^^

All my characters names come from famous Greeks:
Diomedes, Agamemnon, Lysander, and Leonidas.
Cookie for the person who actually manages to find out who James Folsom is.
Jimmy Doughnut - horse doctor who sometimes does people. Chocolate and nut cookie please.
Cerebus is a comic book char who is short, funny looking and bad tempered. It seems to fit quite well.

Mr. Oblivion - was my TFC name. Now I'm kinda bummed cause everyone and their mother has a Mr. <insert name here> so I don't play him anymore.
Forty-Six and Two - eh...tool...theory of humans evolving to have 48 chromosomes and acheiving 'perfection'. He's a tank so...genetics, tank, chromosomes..

short for undefined.. i tried to use undefined on a forum.. but it was taken.. so i shortened it... been using it for years now...
i guess in games it can be taken as Undeath/Undead..
been used in combo with wun ( = one) .. undefwun...
now i use Wun alot more in combo.. like i got a char on saturn (not been used for many months) called LostWun...
used to play quake2 (mainly ctf and ra) as MosDefs (most deaths) or MosDrunk (i had a habit off jumping online 5am after coming home drunk)

It was the name of all my chars in any game which could have a custom named char.
I picked it because it sounds cool and because it sounds sleek and powerful.

R@zor is a name i've been using for a while now, in Counter-strike and Tribes 2
My PE's name Palmer came about when i was at the character creation screen and i was trying to think of a name, there was a coffee mug on the desk infront of me with Palmers Industrial Supplies written on it.

My name has no real meaning :)
Basically I was playing an LOTR game and needed an elven name, found a translator. The word "Elf" was Eledh, the word "Bow" was Brant.
Eledhbrant sounded good so i took it.
My first char's name was Lady Hawk because my son has a poster in his room of Michelle Pfeiffer as LH in the movie and I have always liked it, it looks strong and mysterious
My other char Ipi Tombi is an african musical production and it is my favourite of all time (I grew up in South Africa and love the music)
My PSI is Paloma because I have always loved that name and as everybody knows it means Dove

You think Nidhogg the mod know what it meant? Chances are that he only found out it was from norse myths from reading this thread! I bet like most ppl he chose his name from the final fantasy series (e.g. yuna, auron, wakka, anima etc etc). (Yes nidhogg is a monster in Final fantasy too).
I made my name up so i could have an email address without any damn numbers in it and i've used it for game since then.
All mods names comes from the Norse mythology so its unlikely
that he somehow missed that and picked his name from FF and
accídently picked the one name that also comes from norse
mythology. Then again I guess it could happen. ;)

Well...I don't have a long story for my char names...they mostly based on video games, but here goes..
Origin - The summons in Legaia 2 (Sounded interesting, so I used it ever since. :D )
Aurian - Sort of based on Auron from FFX
Syroko - Altered spelling of 'Sirocco' - a (wind/air) spell in Breath Of Fire 3.
And those are my characters, basically.

It reflects the way I approach gaming, programming, social life, girls. Probably why I r0x0r in military tactics heh.....
I check out every way something can follow out, on the forums not so much as RL/ingame... but ingame/irl/pm I say everything I say for a specific reason...
Generally, whenever I can, in a situation I will run "Causality simulations." - I always have since I started my teen years cuz life was hell for a while... so I needed to know pretty much the possible outcome of every single action I could take and the way it would interact with the world around me, and the way the world around me would be effected by me and visa versa. - basically, through probability, make better choices with good information, even with bad info I can do an ok job (9 years practise..).
...but yeah....that's what it means.... it's how I think... weighing up everything as much as possible as often as possible, and looking at every single possible outcome that can be produced by it and the other elements of the environment it's relevant to...
....heh, officially anyway.

Used to have one name for a long time, Rasputin, from the old Boney M records (yeah yeah :p) then got tired of it and tried thinking of loads of names, and came up with Cipher, (which means code) and changed it a bit to Cypher, all a year or so before the matrix came out (so NO it's not from there) then that comes out and find it means I get called "you bastard cypher!" from time to time :lol:

After that it was always Elric, until i quit for a few weeks and came back and it had been taken, so I changed my ingame one to Elrik. Has been the same ever since. All the forums Im on are all Elric, while inagme is Elrik.
CarniFex latin. means hangman or executioner. First got the name from WH40k then realised that all the cool tyranids got their names from the latin so its more I like latin names. Well that and Hudson Hawk is just good names (yes i hate that movie but its an excellent name for a spy).

Mine is a rather lame story...haha...I originally got in during beta 3 but since I didn't know what to do and didn't really meet anyone all too friendly, I kinda didn't play much...then I got back in during beta 4 with the d/l because my beta 3 discs had gotten screwed up...some how one of the discs was punctured with a hole and KK couldn't be bothered to send me a replacement :( and there was much mourning...anyway...when I got back in finally I couldn't think up a name...I thought and I thought to no avail...I was gonna roll up a pistol/hacker spy and I was watching Hackers at the time so I named him Dade Murphey...lame eh? hehe...and then in retail I shortened it to Dade since everyone had called me that and new by that anyhow...It did manage to prompt much discussion about the movie and it's realism/bastardization of hacking...and I even got one guy raggin on me for using the name in beta...hahah

The main name I go by is Shakey that's cus it's my RL nickname which I got years ago at college. Other than that I used 50 Pence for a while just after In da club was released cus I thought it was quite a funny english equivalent to 50 Cent, used to get ppl commenting on it ingame & it always used to show who the brit players were which my PE char Dizzee Rascal does cus I often get someone shouting Oi Dizzee Fix up look sharp!!!

Heh, my name is from a pretty obscure source. I used to play a certain MUD for 8 years before becoming a coder there and finally switching to neocron. Anyway, in this MUD there was a healer subguild that was called the "Healers of Wrathwind", that had the healer spells of more offensive nature. Stuff like damage reflecting protective spells and so on. I often used to play a 'hybrid' that had healer levels and that sub and some offensive spellcaster guild. Good for playerkilling, not so good for PvM, and no, not insanely overpowered.. ;)
Well, when I was creating my NC character I just happened to think about that name and it stuck.

I went on a diving expedition to Gozo (Island off Malta)
About 20 of us from my school and the local girls school.
We spent about month there, and got to know each other quite well.
At some point some one asked what our porn name was.
(First pet's name and your mother's maiden name.)
One girl, who I definitley had feelings for, had the porn name Dribble Joy.
I thought it was quite funney, so the name and the likeness of said young lady have been my avatar in every game I have played for the last 4 years.
I also go by the name Muffdaemon and Malakim.

My forum name comes from my email adress, it was a nickname given to me by a friend of mine. we used to play gauntlet a lot, he was the green jester, me being stoned and generally inept in combat was green donkey.....

Muffdaemon was a VERY old nickname given to me by my scholl mates with regards to my complete inablity to pull women. It also spilled onto the website that they made in my honour, an utter piss take about me and my life and some of the teachers at my school, alas it was discovered and much detentions were recieved. Also use it in CS.
Malakim is a name I used when I made a Tank alt. Malakim are kinda like heaven's warriors.

Let's see. Well in Ultima Online I went as Divinus and in EQ and NWN I went as Questlane. Then I started playing StarSiege online and a medieval name didn't really fit so I changed my tag to "Corinthian Jest." Then I started playing Cron and just decided to go by Jest, though my alternate character is named Corinth.
A clan mate once asked me how come my name was Jest since I'm not funny. haha. I chose Jest because I am often playful and sarcastic even when I know I shouldn't be. :eek:
